I remember when you had Shawn on a while ago and he’s great and his levelheaded takes are appreciated! Great dialogue between you guys and loved the question about how he would design a game plan to beat Jones
I think Vikings fans are expecting them to be competitive this year and love how the national media is down on Minnesota. The Vikings have great coaching on both sides of the ball, a good young core at key positions, and KOC is 17-0 when the Vikings win the turnover battle. It’s not a SB team yet, but they aren’t on their way to the first pick in the draft either, like ESPN projected. They should see their SB window start to open next year when they have a ton of cap space.
Greetings from SKOL Nation. The Vikings are a complete question mark of a team right now. First off, it's horrible what happened to McCarthy in preseason. From training camp and his 1st preseason game, he absolutely looks like he was in command of the team and had the swag you hope to see with a QB. In preseason, take what you can from it but our rookie QB was very impressive. Vikes fans are still split on Cousins, but I see our team showing some balls to recognize his limitations and the financial sacrifice he caused. He also has 1 career playoff win to his name. I feel like we got better all around after kicking the can on him for so long. Moving on, Darnold can be a good QB but he struggles under pressure. We were warned, and we saw it in preseason. With that being said, our interior OL is inconsistent. Our RG, Ingram, should be a 3rd string guard. He's horrible, and every year it shocks the fanbase that he's not only back, but starting. We believe that it's the comrodery of the 5 playing together for multiple years that keeps him around. Center Bradbury can be mediocre but he's very inconsistent and will most likely be below average. Our tackles are the best tandum in football. Pressure up the middle should be very effective against this OL and it will force the Vikings to run a lot of play action plays and roll out passes. We can't run block very good either. It's great that we got an actual starting RB (Aaron Jones - former Packer) again after loosing Dalvin Cook in 2023 and experimenting with the back up Mattison who was the worst starting RB in the league by a country mile last year. We're also missing our TE (Hockinson) for the first 4 games but we do have two phenominal blocking TE's with Oliver and Mundt. Minnesota's job is to get the ball out of the QB's hands with minimal turnovers. We all know Jefferson's capabilities, but don't overlook Addison on the other side. We lost Jefferson to IR last year and it didn't slow us down that much. Addison is a young kid who does really stupid things but he's an absolutely amazing WR, fit to be a #1 on a lot of teams. On defense, the Vikings have 0 pass rush up front. We let a top 5 DE (Danielle Hunter walk in FA). Combined with him and Cousins contracts, the Vikings freed up a lot of cap room. They revamped their overall defense with DE's Tillery and Bullard, LB's Greenard, Cashman, Van Ginkel. Vikings fans know almost nothing about how these guys will perform. We've been told they're above average based on their play on other teams. We are very, very excited for our other 1st round pick; Dallas Turner from Bama. He was considered to be the best defensive player available in the draft by many. Our 1st preseason game was against the Radiers. They played their starters early on, and have a great group of blockers. With that being said, Turner was very disruptive the the backfield for the 15 plays we saw. He got a sack and was credited for 2 hurries. He really had like 4 or 5. If that's any sign of who he's going to be, look out. Our secondary is also questionable. Harrison Smith should be a 1st ballot HOF safety but he's been slowing down the past couple of years. He'll be better than average, but not the hard hitting, utility workhorse he used to be. He's sneaky good at interceptions as well. Bynum shows some real promise on the other side as well. I'd say he's sligthy above league average. Vikes were delt a devestating blow when sophmore CB Mekhi Blackmon blew out his knee right away in camp. He showed real promise last year and was considered our possible #1 CB. Our 3rd round pick was Oregon CB Khyree Jackson who was tragically killed in a car accident. We have no idea how good he was going to be, but he was drafted out of need at the position. We recently signed Stephon Gilmore from FA. We haven't seen him play here yet. He should be decent, but a shell of his HOF days. Well, thats an unbiased report on my Vikings. It's long, but it'll let you know who to watch out for and maybe guess at how the NYG in those God-awful uniforms will prepare and play tomorrow. It honestly looks like we're built the same ways. I look forward to seeing your rookie WR Nabers. There was a lot of pre-draft talk about him here. Some had him as the best WR in the draft, and that's saying something for highly projected Harrison Jr. was. This game should come down to how / or if, the Vikings OL can manage the Giansts interior pressure. If the OL buckles, I'm not sure how they can run the ball or get it out to their increadible WR's. My guess is that this will be a boring, low scoring game of eating the clock, check downs, and punts.
