Polar Vantage V3 - Can you trust it?

  • The Polar Vantage V3 is a very sleek-looking GPS sports watch with a lot to offer, it’s a shame that the model's newest additions don’t add much to the runner experience (the ECG, Skin temperature, and boost from sleep features for example). I don’t think the offline map feature was worth the hype either - yes it looks great but as for guiding me out of a forest, it didn’t deliver as well as it did in a City which is alarming. For me the Polar Vantage V3 didn’t deliver on the ‘levelled up’ experience I was expecting after 3 years of waiting - but it looks fantastic.

Thank you for this video, concerning me I bought the V3 3 years after the V2. Especially to benefit from the quality of the OLED screen which has a magnifying glass and no problems with brightness even when running at 12h.
As far as I am concerned, no problems with swimming pool training, approximately 3 kms per week
I use it with Stryd for road training and also trail training.

Nice overview, even for a non-runner. Thank you! 😃👍
    1. How does the internal heartrate sensor perform now? Any inprovements by updates or us the performance still weaker than in the V2, V1, M2 and M1?
    2. About the "lack" to turn on the illimination: I guess the watch knows via the settings that you wear it on your right wrist and not your left!?!??

I am still using the v1. Thanks for your video. Would you rather upgrade to v2 or v3?

Who on earth wrote the software on this thing. The amount of lag and jerky motion is unbelievable! Nice video thx.

Thank you for your review. I migrated from FR245 to v2 last August. I felt more upsides, v2 is better, if course its was a flagship. But recently v2 failed, the support said it can not be fixed. Sent me a voucher and I have v3 now. Haven`t noticed any bugs with the GPS or sync. Everything is perfect. A few times the gesture did not work.

The curved glass of the V3 is not a favorite aspect of mine. I use screen protectors on my V2 and it's performing well! I have thought about switching to Coros or even Garmin, but Coros is higher on the list for me with a $200 watch that has dual frequency and lasts a long time! Great video and review by the way!

I have been wearing top Polar watches for 27 years. Now, with the V3, that has come to an end. I have been patient with Polar for long enough.
Not only the crash bug, which was fixed with firmware 1.2.5, but also problems with sleep recording, a delay in the display and the low battery performance have disappointed me.
The biggest problem was the service. I tried to return the watch, which Polar passively refused to do. I have never experienced anything like this before.
Polar also didn't respond to my inquiry for weeks and they failed to respond even after contacting me.
I sold the V3 at a loss and bought a Garmin FR965 and I am extremely happy with it. I should have taken this step earlier.
    Polar: FCK you!

I'm surprised to hear Polar ignored you! We're a little disappointed as well - v2 is such a great tool

Honestly by looking at it, my feeling is fit and finish is not even close to Suunto Vertical/Race, GPS and core functions are probably miles away from Garmin Epix2/Fenix 7.

We want to start buying some Suunto next. I was thinking of starting with the Race. Good entry into modern Suunto ?

Suunto Race is definitely a good pick especially for being a runner. Top notch design and fit & finish, which is similar to Vertical. AMOLED screen is a huge improvement and I think it's more important to a runner than having a solar power. Price point it's more reasonable than Vertical which makes it more competitive I believe. Solar power from my understanding it is more of a thing for hardcore outdoor activities including hunting, outback hiking and survival exercise. I have both Suunto Vertical and Garmin Epix 2. From my humble first hand experience, Epix 2 definitely has better GPS experience with more details in the maps. It shows the names of the streets, key areas and even hiking track names if you are in national park. It simply has heaps more info on the screen. However, I have to say the Suunto Vertical feels way more solid & durable and will outlast Epix 2 or probably any Garmin watches in terms of life span. Epix 2 is excellent quality and durable as well, but Vertical is just on another level, I believe Race is the same case. If you need a more rugged outdoor watch with reliable essential GPS and key functions, Vertical/Race is probably the way to go. If you need more added functions and more detailed info in GPS, go with Garmin Epix/Fenix.

I own a V3 for quite a time and three things annoy me as f...
    1. There is no track of my route run when I just run without a route downloaded. I can see the map, but there is no trace.
    2. It shows I'm overloaded with cardio runs/activities on one widget, but on another it suggests me a cardio training (40minutes run).
    3. Waking up the watch while training and heart rate metrics.
    Other things are spot on.
    Aaaand... its a beauty!

Thank you. I bought the V3 in November, upgrading from the V2 and before that the V. It is pretty, but after the firmware update in December it uses battery life faster more akin now to the V2. It drops the heart rate sporadically requiring a reboot of the watch. The upload to Polar Flow on my iPad Pro latest software often requires a restart of the iPad. Using the strap - that is a no-no having used one years ago from Polar resulting in rashes. Needless to say I am sorely disappointed with Polar however willing to trust and believe that they will soon resolve the issues else it will be the final Polar product I ever invest in. Thank you again for being honest and critical.

I love the polar flow software And polar training programs are also superior to Garmin imo. Too bad they can't make a solid watch. If they did I would be back in polar world immediately. Now using Garmin that works so so but sleep detection is rubbish (my polar v1 is still much better) Garmin can't detect when I go to bed even. Polar gets it right every time.. And the Garmin app is just way too overcomplicated.. No strength training follow along stretches etc..
