- The Baneblade in the colours of the Death Korps of Krieg looks fantastic on the tabletop and in this video we show you exactly how to get a great result! The Academy (duncanrhodes.com) has been going for two years now and we thoughts we'd dig out a tutorial (voted for by you) from the Academy Vault to celebrate this milestone. We show you how to paint this titan killer from start to finish including how to add some great, realistic-looking weathering effects which would be useful on all sorts of vehicles from your favourite miniature ranges. Please feel free to subscribe to this channel if you enjoyed the content.
So from both of us (Dunc & Rog) we just want to say a huge thank you for all the support and generosity over the last two years. Here's to many more! 🎉🎉🎉

YOU FORGOT TO PRIME THE TANK!
Oh my god. I cant believe it has already been 2 years! What a journey!! My Emperor! Congratulations!
Thank you!!
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA No problem! I actually wrote a comment on your video once, (the black templar crusader one) and you answered, by suggesting i start an army of those. I did. They are amazing, Thank you!
You did not just say My Emporer unironically
@@saucefreakystyle by all means did not
Two thin years! Two thin years!!
Congrats! Here’s to many more!
You got there first 😂
When I saw that there were only 4 comments, I knew what I had to do, haha. 😝
I wish you two all the best!
Better than one thick year XD
Fun Fact, when Duncan was applying was around the Rivets and seams, we actually have to do that IRL on aircraft. It seems long on a model, imagine how long it takes on a aircraft fuselage with 10,000 bolts in just the main barrel.
Boilermaker here.... Never-Seize around every bolt in the refinery.... ugh
Close family friend used to work for Fairchild, had some stories about the A-10 and the pains of building them. And years later after joining the Marine Corps I came to appreciate the CAS pilots and the BRRRT! they bring...
Oof. You earned your pay there.
Yup. They say over 3 million points of failure on a 737.
Yikes, time flies and what a good two years you've had! Congratulations!
It sure does! And thank you 😊
Painting a thing of THAT size THAT well without an airbrush is a feat in itself. What a gorgeous Baneblade !
I just want to say thank you Duncan. When I discovered your old GW paint videos back In 2017 it inspired me to get back into miniature war games for the first time in 20years and it helped me learn core painting techniques. Without your videos I would have never been bold enough to continue learning more painting styles, thank you so much! I think I can speak for everyone and say you and all your affiliates who bring us great content have been a shining grace (Elden ring pun) for us all in these difficult times.
Wow, thank you for the kind words. Ill pass your thanks on to Rog too 😊
Crazy to think I've been watching this guy do his own thing for 2 years. It still feels like yesterday I was watching him tell me to thin my pains and a GW shirt. He looks happy and I'm happy for him. Keep killing it my man!
2 years huh? The older we get the faster the time seems to fly by. Here's to many more good years with this awesome hobby! 👍
Large vehicles are always a welcome sight, so I am happy to see what an expert will do to them! Congrats on 2 years already.
Now, I’m gonna feel real awkward when people say I’m using a Krieg paint scheme when I’m taking inspiration for a Valkria chronicle paint scheme.
Cant wait to see squats painted here!
Let's do it!
I know this is two years late. I tried, i really really tried. I saw this and was convinced it was the coolest paintjob I ever saw. I ran out and got a Baneblade, built it, primed it and admired the beast.
Then i started painting and now i just want to throw it away. It looks nothing like this. the bands are so hard to align. The paint doesnt dry clean, its streaky, I can't deather it worth a damn. This video gave me hope. and now it's crushed,
Wow, 2 years already, congratulations both of you! Here's to many more!
Thank you so much!
IT IS THE BANE BLADE!
Riveting!
we see what you did there... you're a barrel of laughs 😁
The calibre of these jokes, man
as soon as you said 'camoflague' i was expecting an April fools joke of describing the painting process but not showing anything
i'm very glad this video goes otherwise
Pulls up to local Killteam tournament
Plays Death Korps cause why not
Pulls out Duncan Rhodes™ Baneblade
Refuses to elaborate

Hey Duncan I have a question. Could you redo Saruman? You painted him for Warhammer but that colour scheme didn't look anything like in the movies or like the actual box art. Getting that off white colour and weathered look like on the box art is really tricky. It would help me a lot! :D
34:38 you can also use masking tape. Remember to remove some of the tapes stickiness on a table
Tamiya masking tape also works great. It's made for modelling so it'll stick but doesn't take of any paint.
Two years?! Guess it's time I got a membership. 15 minutes later.......wow, you guys have been busy. Looking forward to watching all of your Xenos, ASOIAF, and Historical tutorials!
I was worried it is an aprils fool joke. Thanks Duncan!
For washing step, enamel washes do wonders.
"Hey everybody, it's been two years since we started shading the rivets on this Baneblade..."
Well done my friend, come a long way since joking around with Peachy and the lads
I found this video when I bought my Baneblade but by the time I bought the paints needed to do the color scheme I wanted I’d decided, “what if I painted it like a German tank on the eastern front?”
Doesn’t matter that it’s grey and red if it’s covered in snow 😂
What a wonderful tutorial. I like the method of applying the camo without an airbrush while still getting a level of feathering. This tank nerd is pleased by your efforts :P
Oh damn that is a chonker :D
Really great to see some vehicles as well.
Love the content.
Been waiting for exactly this!!! THANKYOU!
this is an incredibly talented paint job. Although I dont know how okay kreigsmen would be with putting anything in cammo.
Excellent guide! I used your Cadian camo scheme from10 years ago foe my guard tanks. I finally ordered one of these and plan to use that guide plus a lot of techniques from this one. £100 seemed a bit too expensive for a kit, but its pretty good value seeing how bug the this is and quantity of plastic comes in the box! I've not seen one in the flesh before so never really gauged the true size of it.
Beautiful.
I have often wished that GW would make guard OP on the tabletop so that the majority of players collected guard, it naver makes sense that there are more marines out there than guard. I was very happy to see the plastic DKoK.
Still outlandish that it’s $50 for a box of 10 infantry, and it’s for kill team
"it's been amazing"
"no you are"
:D love your videos.
43:40 that brown gunk reminds me of grease residue you’d get around the track tensioner on my real life APC as it would attract dust and sand no matter how careful you were to clean excess away. Same for the bolts on the road wheels.
How perfect. I've got a baneblade to complete by Saturday. This will direct my focus perfectly!
I'm don't know if there's a reason to not care in the 40K universe, but in RL, the interior of tank hatches are almost always painted in the base exterior color. The interior of a tank is normally painted white, cream, or ivory to improve visibility -- light reflecting off the interior illumination -- inside the tank, but the inside of the hatches are painted the same color as the exterior so as to not have a highly visible indicator showing the location of the tank. But for a tabletop game, it's just a stylistic thing.
"Hey that's looking pretty good. If I could do that I would be proud to put that on the table. Wait, how long is left of this video?"
My thoughts around the 20 minute mark. Proceeds to cry Nuln Oil as I'll never be as good as Daddy Dunks
Seriously can't believe two years have gone bye already 😅.
Awesome to see you guys are going just as strong, looking forward to many more years of content.
Oh my Baneblades are just the best things to seen done i've got to watch every minute!
I'm a relatively regular watcher, I remember the GW days and being extremely unhappy to see the replacement guy and hear his voice. Then I found out that you have your own channel now and started binge-watching your videos every once in a while. Unfortunately, I cannot paint stuff myself and substitute it with your guides. Thanks for the fun times!
It's our pleasure
FOR THE EMPEROR AND A MASSIVE THANK YOU FROM THE 222ND PREDATOR CATACHAN REGIMENT (my catachan army)
Tanks awesome video, you can teach an old dog new tricks, but you can do more weathering, but Question has done a video with a Leman Russ or a Super Heavy with aggressive damage of shell strikes large-caliber way down to the metal coverings? Cheers from Downunder Bob
Fun Fact, when Duncan was applying was around the Rivets and seams, we actually have to do that IRL on aircraft. It seems long on a model, imagine how long it takes on a aircraft fuselage with 10,000 bolts in just the main barrel.
Very simple question, after finishing this do you varnish the tank and if you do do you use a matte finish? and do you put it with a spray can or airspray paint?
Honestly, I thought Duncan would open the first paint bottle and then Rick Astley would appear. It's April 1st for a reason!
so are you able to just repurpose any astra militarum tank/vehicle and artillery/guns for Krieg? im new and really would like to build my own Krieg army
It's not painted pink for April 1st? I'm so disappointed right now... maybe next year 😉😄
Heh heh,
“Tank you very much”
Tank you very much for this video!
wowza that's a good price for your monthly membership to the website, I think I know what I'm going to be signing up for when I get payed next week
Bust out the bubbly!
Wouldn’t mind seeing you guys do a genestealer baneblade.
So anyone know a way to paint thoughs red and white lines at the front? His way doesn't really work on anything not a bane blade. Every other tank has the adjustment for the treads at the front and no rivets to fallow. Im really have trouble with a straight line
So I noticed you tend to use matte white from the army painter rather than white scar from citadel in nearly all of your tutorials. Just wondering why it is you prefer Matte White? Thanx!
hi! is Citadel or Vallejo products safe for painting without a mask or even paint in bedroom?
one thing I never understood, is why does he trashes so much paint on that paper towel. Feels like wasted money straight into GW's pocket.
Thunderhawk blue seems to be discontinued (at least the layer version of it). Are there any good substitutes?
Several hours of painting a Baneblade. Gets destroyed in the first shooting phase of the game.
lol i was thinking i want a tank to and my prayers are answered watching the video now come on my next pay check I'm gonna live on bake beans for a month bot i will get all my enrichment from my lovely painted models my lord i feel like im 15 again haah
i am painting my first cadian 75th shadowsword latter this month so this is really helpful i haven't painted in yeaaaars haha whis me luck
Just a thought, but would it be quicker to dip wash that bad boy. Then go back over the blue and grey ?
Dese humiez neva learn. Paint it red so it kan go faster! WAAAGH!
Could you by any chance do a video on painting a painboy? I'll be painting one soon and I'm just looking for ideas and tips
I’ve always wanted a bane blade but I think it might just always be a little too much model for me
I never realised until I looked from the side that the Baneblade is a Panzer IV with a longer hull.
What is the name of your theme song? Congrats on two very successful years! Here’s to a life time more.
I love this video because its helping me to detail more mechanical things and I can even carry the tips over into other hobbies! that said the name always reminds me of this cartoon ua-cam.com/video/WsOlT-q89f0/v-deo.html
Congratulations! Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
Thank you and more to come for sure!
Gonna have to filch this scheme for my 375th Siege Regiment.
try to learn from AFV weathering.😉
and grout the gap on water tanks😲
Happy 2nd anniversary!
We know to be such needy lovers with all the paints, minis and other requests, but thanks for treating us well
You are so welcome!
Покрашено ниже среднего. Выглядит, как детская игрушка
Oh! It's polish Krab fighting in Ukraine!
Yeeesssssssssssss
Bro after shading that tank you LOOKED worn out. hahaha
2 years and STILL HD video, 4k - never heard of
I usually paint models of that size in sub-assemblies.
7:40 could do this in literally a tenth of the time with an oil wash 🤦♂️
Gigachad Ukraine: We need ammunition, not a ride!
Germany: Say no more, my friend! We'll have ein Baneblade division sent for you

Lulz you are on some Copeium
I was expecting an april fools joke 😢
Love you Duncan...twice...quite thinly
Thank you , DRPA .
🐺
Wait... two years? Has it really been that long?
You can cut all the shading down into a 10 minute job with Tamiya Panel Liner. Get it one there with a brush with a good sized reservoir, then brush it off with a wide brush dampened with Tamiya Enamel Thinner. As long as the acrylic paint is dry and you use the right thinner, they won't interact and you get a good clean shade over everything that you can reactivate and keep cleaning off if you don't like it. Is how I did my own Krieg tanks and I can knock out a Russ in like 2 hours at a high quality.
I like big tanks and I cannot lie
😂😂😂
"How many guns does a baneblade have?"
"Yes"
$125 for this tank seems excessive.
Good show on lots of techniques! Nice work, as always.
Glad you liked it!
Another great video :D
I don’t actually play 40k but love the lore and enjoy converting and painting the minis. I’ve always wanted a bane blade but these days just can’t justify the Australian price tag 😢
Thanks for the video guys. With that panel lining, would you consider using an oil or enamel wash? It feels like it would be faster and easier to me. Is there a reason you don't like them? Or do you just stick to acrylics for the benefit of your audience?
I've been a teacher for 10 years (despite my name I'm an Italian teaching English).
Let me say this. You would make a great educator.
Wow, thank you
I thought this was going to be a big troll.
The Warhammer painting tutorials were not the same after you left, and I unsubbed when Games Workshop attacked the fandom. I haven't missed them at all. You were the Canary in the coal mine. That was clear to me now.
I'm glad to see how successful you've been in the past two years, and hope there are many more to come! Cheers!
real shame about the massive gaps along the barrel lids, otherwise awesome :)
Great vid! perfectly timed too, I have been considering getting a baneblade, I was umming and ahing mostly because of the price, this vid and the work involved convinced me that I'm going to save my money.
Duncan probably aged 25 years after the sheer amount of panel lining he had to do on that Baneblade... yeah, never again...
Excellent video; inspiring! I greatly appreciate the improvement in voice narration, slowed down the speech and clearer ennunciation - I can now follow the important voice guide. Thank you for your continued production and helpful videos!
Congrats!!! More chaos for year 3🥺
Ready to unleash 11 barrels of hell!
Can you do a how to paint forge world ryza
What an amazing paintjob for that huge tank! I someday want to own one, just to say I do.
Also, can't wait to get my Kickstarter stuff and get to using those Two Thin Coats paints! :D I've even got an idea for using Sir Coates as an Eldritch Knight in DnD (magic paintbrush anyone?).
Appreciate the content Sir Duncan and I am glad you are doing well! 😃 I learned a lot from this video and I hope to apply these techniques myself with my Tau Army. I am curious if you are willing to do a video about painting any Big Tau Battlesuits like the Riptide, Stormsurge, or even a Supremacy Armor 😁 I was a big fan of your Ghostkeel demonstration with GW many years ago and was wondering how I can make the battlesuits I just mentioned stand out more. TYVM HF and stay healthy 👍
Would love to see your take on Grey Knights but not in silver but in acutal grey as alternate color scheme. And congrats to the 2 years! ,:)
