My buddies and I loved Subhuman Race. It came out our junior year of high school. Wish they didn't slag the record so much, but from all indications, the band was in such shambles already so it was a miserable time for them. Makes sense. Great record though.
Hair metal, which I hate that term, wasn't sued until Grunge was already big. I really hate that people who like 80's metal, glam metal use that term. So disrespectful.
Grunge is all right. You can like different genres man, why close yourself to ONLY 1?. Rock n Roll is a universe of its own. Shit, i like The Doors as much as I love Motley Crue or Alice in Chains and Frederick Chopin. We live in a wonderful world where any type of music is quite literally at our fingertips. I was a fan rock in the 80's in middle school. But when I got to high school in the 90's there was a major counter culture shift. The counter culture didn't just hate 80's music it was 70's an 60's also. And it wasn't just music either we hated everybody and everything that wasn't us. We were the polar opposite of everything that resulted from peace and love in the 60's.
I hate that term too. We didn't call this kind of music 'hair metal ' in the 80's and you are right, it only came around during the grunge era and it is disrespectful.

Grunge didn't last long as a fad but some of those bands made quite an impression in a short period of time. Some of those songs will never go out of style. OG AIC & Soundgardens 1st album are incredible.
Always young at heart. But I think he’s still has his ups and downs and struggles with alcohol and substances. Hope he eventually get his way and reunite with the other guys.
Skid row is not a hair metal band. They are a hard metal band. Even the great scott ian has been documented as saying they are and were a metal band not a hair band.
Subhuman Race is pretty grungy for me. I can’t put Beat Yourself Blind anywhere else than, at least, Alternative Metal. BTW, what’s so hard to call “the bass player” by the name? And still he wants to get back together... I love Sebastian, he’s funny as Hell, but is the same man-child than 30 years ago
Rachel Bolan was the main culprit in breaking up the band, and if you're a fan of Subhuman Race as an album, Bolan is also the one who has routinely knocked it and referred to it as their version of St. Anger. Frankly speaking, Bolan is in about twice as in need of an attitude adjustment than Bach is on his worst day.
my biggest issue with Sebastian is that one day he's very upset about the break up and the next day he's hurling insults at the SR guys for not getting back together=IMMATURITY! and just because Sebastian has an idea about vinyl or unreleased content does not mean the idea is very good. not every single idea band members have become reality. i certainly with Snake, Rachel and Scotti did pay more attention to their history and re-release the old VHS tapes on DVD or release rare songs/demos, but there must be a reason why they have not done that=$$ those 3 don't need the money(yet) so more power to them for having a business sense and not diluting the market for the thousands of fans they have left.
Bob Rock basically tried to turn Skid Row into what Motley Crue had become the previous year when he produced their 1994 self-titled album, it worked to an extent, but Skid Row's sound was a bit too raw and fast to really work within that Soundgarden template as well. Don't get me wrong, Subhuman Race is a solid album, but it would have been far better had they produced it in a similar manner as Slave To The Grind.
There are some bands that have ben forced to continue without the original lead singer, ACDC, Alice in Chains etc. while not the same, have made it work. I truly respect the musicianship of the people in Skid Row, and Bach as a vocalist, but Skid Row are not like those other bands, because for one, Bach is still alive, and there is no Skid Row without Bach.
If they got a singer that sounded similar to Bach ( if not Bach) I think skid row could have been OK for a tour. I saw them without Bach a couple times. Boring. Same goes for Warrant singer(s) were not near the same sounding person as Jani was, it just doesn't work for me.
Bas feels that reuniting with Skid Row just means "playing the same Skid Row songs with a different bass player." This is why they will not be reuniting. LOL.
If he continues to refer to Rachel as ´´the bass player´´ it will never happen. How self-aware can this guy be if four other guys are miserable and he doesn´t notice it? He is the same volatile man child he was twenty five years ago. However, I do appreciate his candor and the stream of consciousness. He is amusing.
They've had 20 years to bury the hatchet. There is no way Rachel and Baz-- these men in their 40s and 50s-- could be so immature as to not put aside any personality clash or differences of opinion in exchange for continuing to live their dream. I think the real reason- when you get down to brass tacks- is the money. I bet someone in the band wants a larger piece of the pie than he feels the rest of the band is entitled to. A true reunion tour happens one time and someone's probably getting greedy. If that's the case, fuck 'em. I'd pay to see Baz right now, solo. I'd pay more to see Baz and a couple of the guys together again. I wont ever pay a single cent to see a band calling themselves Skid Row with anyone else singing, no matter who the bass player is.
How about players like Keith Moon\John Entwistle or John Bonham\John Paul Jones or Neil Peart\Geddy Lee or Nicko Mcbrain and Steve Harris Most highly successful bands have magic chemistry with all the players and if you lose any one of them it never sounds the same. However, I do think that the vocalist is the hardest to replace and the most noticeable. Led Zepplin called it quits, The Who never sounded the same. Neil Peart and Steve Harris are also the lyricists in their bands and are not going to be easily replaced or noticed by everyone.
i am in NO WAY insulting bassists or drummers man... though it sounded that way. Imho.. The drummer is the heartbeat of a song... the bassist is the soul.. the rhythm is the Fire.. and the lead is the decoration.... the lead singer/melody writer is the heart... But lets be honest. Most bassists and drummers pick those instruments because they just want to "also be on stage and be a part".. at least imho... the brilliant drummers and bassists who chose it because they love it are far too rare
He was wasted 24/7 in that time-frame, that's how he didn't notice it. The worst, most obnoxious asshole in the world is the guy that is drunk or stoned, when you are trying to get your life turned around. So when they were all wasted, Baz didn't seem so bad, but when the rest of the band started getting clean(er), that made it so much more annoying. Baz is one of my favorite singers in the world, such a stellar voice and has the attitude and all, but not sure if I could be around him for very long without wanting to strangle him, so I can;t imagine what the guys int he band had to endure. He is like having a 48 year old child walking around. lol
I do not understand skid row on the subhuman race deal. A great album. Actually their hardest album. Bad single release but otherwise killer! Eileen was great! Breaking down killer!
Video editing is such an evil thing. We all know that Sebastian is a bit dorky, but editing an interview like this makes him look and sound delusional. I was in the concert he mentions in the interview and it wasn't in Rio, it was in São Paulo. The reason why people didn't like Skid Row in the bill was because in Brazil the band had been marketed as a ballad band from the very beginning, by their record label. "I remember you" was part of a soap opera sountrack and Sebastian's face was on the cover of every teen magazine and hordes of teen girls, who didn't know a thing about metal, would claim to listen to Skid Row and like metal because of his looks. I was a kid back then, and I wouldn't admit to listening to them because they were 'posers' or at least that's the perception local metal audiences had at the time. You have to remember that that was the mid 1990s and information wasn't that abundant. So, ultimately, the strategy of their record label was their undoing,
I like skid row but without Sebastian they are nothing. Haha. Oh also without Rob Affuso. Sebastian rocks l. Snake and Rachel is nothing without Sebastian..
I personally think Subhuman Race is a great album. You can definitely hear the influence of bands like Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Pantera.

So, ultimately, the strategy of their record label was their undoing,
Well the vinyl box came out. No bonus or extra tracks but a nice set.
He ages well
This guy is amazing 👏

No Bach- no Skid Row. I've seen them several times without Sebastian and they sound good- but it's just not the same....
Lol he keeps saying the band broke up... I wonder if he knows Skid Row is still active

Metal is forever.
I like skid row but without Sebastian they are nothing. Haha. Oh also without Rob Affuso. Sebastian rocks l. Snake and Rachel is nothing without Sebastian..
