- Chuck Woolery tries to get personal in this 80s pilot!

I admire you Wink for sharing these rare game show pilots.
That alter ego actress, Sally Julian, must have been the person they modeled Bernadette from on The Big Bang Theory. The looks and voice are nearly identical.
Whenever there’s a pilot, there’s a Jack Campion.
I have no idea why but Jack Campion never appeared in any of the Goodson pilots. He may've appeared in one of the Break The Bank unaired pilots though, take that back, he appeared in one of the Card Sharks pilots that Johnny Olson narrated.
Sally Julian put me in mind of Melissa Rauch from "The Big Bang Theory".
That was my very first thought too! LOL
Of course we know her from the premiere of Sale of the Century as the original hostess.
What an interesting pilot. Thanks for sharing with us.
Very good 1982 NBC game show!!
Thank you for posting Mr. Martindale, this was actually pretty fun to watch, it shows sometimes we don't know ourselves as much as we think
The music eventually became the theme for "Dream House."
This set itself looks more like Dream House. No wonder why Chuck didn't return to actual TV until Love Connection began filming in July 1983.
And found continuing success for next quarter-century:
Love Connection (1983-1994)
Scrabble (1984-1990, 1993)
The Dating Game (1997-1999)
Greed (1999-2000)
Lingo (2002-2007)
And the second theme for Showoffs ?
Let's Get Personal was also the name of a late 1980s board game from Canada made by Chieftain Products (no longer in business) and made in the USA by Selchow and Righter (merged within Hasbro). I should know. I had that game.
Chuck Woolery hosting a Selchow board game adaptation? Naaaaah ;-)
I'm sure there's an audience for everything but I couldn't imagine this even having a niche audience.
LOVE CONNECTION MEETS THE EXPERTS 😹
They've Used the Theme Music from Dream House which will later debut in April of '83.
Looks like "Advertisers Gothic" (aka the "SORRY!" logo font) got a lot of love and usage in this game show pilot, that's for sure.
My god. What a train wreck. No wonder they went with Just Men.
The pilot was a disaster, I agree with you.
They could have made it a nighttime show with Jim Peck as the emcee.
Music would later be used in Dream House.
To paraphrase Freud, sometimes a bad concept is just a bad concept. Psychological tests may be fun on line, but they don't translate well to TV quizzes. The only one I can think of that may have worked was Chuck Barris' "The Game Game", which IMODO had the best play-along factor of all of them.
You are correct here. Jack was honest, but clearly his answers wouldn't match the "ideal" for these traits. So the "goody two shoes" got all the money. What I learned here- if you want to win, be dishonest!! (Hmmm - like a certain "in the news" NY congressman, I guess!)
Happy New Year 😊👋🏼
Please do bring back Tic Tac Dough by beating the dragon. 🐉
This isn't great, but I found it entertaining. I think my favorite parts were the 𝐷𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑚 𝐻𝑜𝑢𝑠𝑒 music and the surprise appearance by the late Jack Campion.
this falls in line with ''Wait 'till You Have Kids''
Jack Campion is in this pilot. He was on a lot of game show pilots back in the day.
Never an airing game show though!
Shall we dare try to come up with a complete list? I'll start: Card Sharks, Second Chance, Press Your Luck, both Jeopardy pilots, let's get personal.
Nice to see Chuck Woolrey.
Then, maybe.
Jack Campion is just everywhere!
Sounds like it was taped at NBC Burbank
It's Tomfoolery with Chuck Woolery!
Well, it's not worse that Just Men....not that that is a compliment
At least Just Men! has Betty White.
Betty White won Best Game Show host for Just Men.
This is a mid-1982 pilot episode from the American unsold game show "Let's Get Personal". On this only pilot episode, Jack plays against Judy. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
Has Jack ever been in any actual aired shows?
Attaching "right" and "wrong" answers to a personality quiz seems to me like a very strange move.
Jack Campion, professional game show pilot contestant! (See "Card Sharks", "Second Chance" among others)
And the first two pilots of a little show called Jeopardy!
The usher's wearing a Supertrain jacket??
According to the newspaper archives (an ever-so awesome source for information), this show was intended to replace "The Doctors" on NBC in January 1983. They went with "Just Men!" instead.
i wonder if this the same Tim Stack who voiced the lamp in Brave Little Toaster.
Sadly, Dr. Karen Shanor passed away in 2018.
Using those little skits as a vehicle for game show questions is a little odd. At least it's something different, I guess.
Recognized the theme music from Dream House.
Psychology tests just don't seem to translate well to TV, Chuck Barris' The Game Game had the same problem.
As well as "The Parent Game" and "Wait Till You Have Kids" ... the latter may have caught on if they went with original rumored host: Vicki Lawrence.
@@artkurtz9238I don't know if Vicki could have saved that show. I think what killed it was the controversy around their authority figure.
Is this produced by Don Reid Productions in association with CBS Studios (neé Group W Productions)?
I always love seeing these pilots, but I can easily see why this one didn’t sell. This show was kind of a mess.
2:00 and 16:00 - that sound effect was part of Biyo from Earth Wind and Fire. The font for the logo is the same as Hot Potato in 1984. 9:53 - Timothy Stack plays the usher! And, that Karen lady looks a bit like Susan Stafford, who would leave Wheel of Fortune in the Fall of 1982.
And there's Sally Julian in the second round scene! Sally didn't last too long as hostess on Sale of the Century (1983-89). She was also married for awhile to Barry Gordon, an actor who also served as President of The Screen Actors Guild.
Look, there's Larry Anderson, years b4 Truth or Consequences.
Tim Stack, @20 years b4 Son Of The Beach.
Jack Campion is at it again.
Sadly the doctor is no longer with us, having passed away in 2018 according to the South Pasadena H.S. alumni association website.
Heyyy that's the guy from Sale of the Century who is on Deals
The usher outfit in the movie scene = repurposed outfit from SUPERTRAIN.
Someone said Sally Julian passed away, yes or no???
It Was A Thing On TV....
When did they throw Sally Julian out of $ale of the Century?
The middle of '83.
Happy New Year, Wink!
@0:10, another game show pilot for Jack Champion, how many is that now, 8?
However this really isn't a game show it's actually an interactive talk show
Why did they make Quotev into a game show
What was the name of the game that had a man's wife and secretary
3's A Crowd
I tapped out at 8:41...LOL
Not a bad looking set!
This was... interesting 🤔
Larry Anderson was in the pilot of Knight Rider and played a pre-plastic surgery Michael Knight (Long)!
Ah, so it was Sally Julian, but that was Larry Anderson.
For some reason, that Dr. Karen reminds me sooooo much of Amanda Bearse.
Oh wow... I see that, too 😂
The price is right pilot ? 1972
Somehow, I wonder if Rod Roddy was the announcer for this pilot. I’ve got a hunch he might’ve been by just looking at the title card.
I’m just surprised that there wasn’t an announcer, period.
Cosmopolitan Magazine Pop Quiz: The Game Show. Not interesting. "The Game Game: did it slightly better.
Nothing like those ultra-annoying NBC whistles.
Not bad. I didn’t think I would like this. The carting out scenes were cute.
Oh my goodness I'm watching this again I so hope just don't get Rebooted everyone would lose
Love Connection was more than happy to see this pilot fail, and so are those who saw the cheesy acting and some boring psychologist.
To me it was boring
Ah the 80's and it's obsession with psychoanalysis, I can see how this might have been a hit, Poor Chuck looks like he just found out he'd been replaced by that weatherman with the dry sense of humor right down to his haircut. They should have tried a revival of You Bet Your Life instead.
Do I see Salli Julian?
Thormeca Productions? Never heard of them before.
Me neither!!! I was thinking it would be owned by Mark Maxwell Smith.
God, this was a horrible idea for a show. Did we need a psychologist to tell us which of each pair of answers was more sentimental? I mean, really. Thanks for preserving a bit of mindless pseudo-science like this. It will show future game show developers what not to try. Just because it is something different from the usual he said/she said personal question game, replacing that with I said/I said, doesn't mean it's going to be good. Maybe it gets better as the half hour progresses, but I couldn't take more than five minutes of this, so I will never know.
I love Chuck but this pilot stinks
Wonder Why, LOL.
