  • This is a first look at the brand new, Optolong L-Ultimate dual narrowband filer! Coming off of the success of the L-Extreme, Optolong has released the latest edition of its line of dual narrowband filter. The L-Ultimate sports a bandpass of just 3nm for both HA and OIII. #optolong #l-ultimate #williamoptics #redcat #nebula #veil #astronomy #astrophotography #lightpollution #deepsky #longexposurephotography

    I would be most interested in seeing you reprocess this using BlurXterminator and spectometric color calibration. I don't believe either of these tools were available when you taped this video. Very nice video!

    Great result Angus I haven't pulled the trigger on Pixinsight yet though but I guess I will have to one day.
    Clear skies

      It's worth it in my opinion. You can do much more to your astrophotography images compared to the likes of photoshop.

    I have several tests with Antlia ALP-T (Dual band 5nm, one of them in the nearest star (1000" subs on IC63 too) 600" subs no halos.
    Both in brighter and less bright stars and always without halos.
    This filter has everything to be good but needs halo tuning.

    Very nice Angus, I also own the older Optolong and would say they are just all right, of course the Halos are there downfalls. But took a chance and ordered the L-Ultimate it last month and got it about 2 weeks ago. Looking forward using it. I also got the Antalia DualBand version for HyperStar and they have 1 for the slower scopes same DualBand and equal or better then the Optolong? I am sure there will be some testing as well.. After you video glad I got 1.

    Hey, nice final image, considering your shooting location. It seem’s they have made a good job with that filter.
    What are you thought’s after 2 month of using your l-ultimate ?
    I would be interested getting one, but would it be a « reasonable » choice considering that I shoot in a bortle 4 sky, without street lamps between 00hh00 and 05h00, and an average price of 360€ (~390$) ?
    And, oh, as always very nice and inspiring video, keep up the good work !

      I didn't announce it because I just got it, and I would do a video on it. But my Canon 60d is reaching the end of its life. In its place, it is the QHY247C.

    Excellent assessment Angus & a gorgeous image of the Veil Nebula! You even got some of the H-alpha signal from areas outside the Veil ! It does look like there are no halos or minimal halos, and the filter was certainly challenged by the star 52 Cygni ("Cyg" is an abbreviation).👍👍 And, yes, the 3nm narrow bandpass does reject virtually all light pollution & gives you a really good signal-to-noise ratio, even with your extremely bright urban skies.👍👍 A question: What is the source of the 'weird' stars that show up in 'pixel peeping'? It appears that they were very slightly out of focus, but are you having issues with the RedCat 71 ? Are you dealing with a slightly tilted sensor? The reason I am asking is that I am just about to pull the trigger on the RedCat 71. 🤔 p.s. Since cats are nocturnal critters, your kittens must get really excited when their human companion stays up most of the night! lol 😁

      @nocturneastro2539  Рік тому +1

      Thank you for the view and support! To answer your question, yes, I think I am dealing with some sort of tilt. I do think it's coming from the Redcat 71 because I see similar shapes with another camera. It's something that the Redcat 71 can resolve itself as it has a built in tilt adjustment. (You just need to learn how to do it)

    • @nocturneastro2539
      @nocturneastro2539  Рік тому +2

      Oh and yes, the kittens are usually happier when I'm up imaging throughout the night as well. Haha

    I find i lose star color going over 5 minutes. How did that filter do?

    • @nocturneastro2539
      @nocturneastro2539  Рік тому +1

      I have another friend looking at my data and he thinks that my star colors are off, so maybe you are onto something here! (It doesn't bother me much, and can be resolved by using the starfield from RGB)

    • @dumpydalekobservatory
      @dumpydalekobservatory Рік тому +1

      @@nocturneastro2539 I use a dual band filter on the RASA & I've learnt how to get better star colour, on the star mask run the remove green noise, invert image the do the same, invert back then alter the saturation & you should get some nice star colour, this is using Photoshop & Hasta La Vista Green but it should work the same in Pixinsight.

    I had to remind myself that your taking this image from a very light polluted area. Imagine what you will get 100 miles east.
