How Woodpecker’s Perfect Skull Helped Improve Black Boxes

- Why don’t woodpeckers get concussions even when they are banging their heads into a tree 20 times a second? The answer is simple. Their skulls are perfectly designed by mother nature to withstand impact so they can chip away at wood to store their food. The durability of woodpeckers’ skulls is not the result of hard bones. Their head has multiple components that divert vibrations from the brain to prevent trauma.
This inspired engineers to perfect the design for the black boxes they have on airplanes. The black boxes have been around since the 50s but still had some shortcomings. Even if they are extremely durable, there is still a chance that black boxes may not survive an airplane crash.
Engineers learned from the skull anatomy of woodpeckers and developed a new, multi-component black box that is 60 times stronger than previous designs. The new design has 4 parts that closely resemble the skull of woodpeckers and looks promising even outside the aerospace industry. Just goes to show even the smallest and seemingly brittle animals have a thing or two that they can teach us.

It took brains to think of a Woodpecker to improve the Black Box.
Interestingly...burbs have taught us humans a lot
I'm the lawyer and can confirm the woodpecker itself signed the contract to be in this video.
I think even some helmet designs for use in sports have used the same concept.
My spirit animal lol
The case of the woodpecker debunks evolution. We have a creator, an engineer, a God.
Why not make the darn aircraft a black box, then every one will be safe
I know this is outrageous. And not practical.
Woodpeckers still get brain damage though its just less
Our God is great
