Get yourself a can of Fluid Film at your auto parts store and spray some on the battery terminals. Spray it on your snow shovel too to keep snow from sticking to it. When in doubt, spray Fluid film on it. Keeps things from rusting and corroding. Great stuff.

Easy fix for the oil drain is to remove the junk coupler and replace it with a longer piece of pipe with a cap on the end. Make sure it's longer than the frame. Eliminates the oil leaks and makes it much easier to drain the oil.

I just removed the carb, and heads on a 23 v-twin Intek, I just bought. It mowed a few minutes and it blew a cloud of smoke. I removed the heads but saw no problems, except some carbon. I drained the gas and filled with non-ethanol. New aftermarket,(cheap) carb, gaskets, filters, oil and plugs. I got it together and then the compression tried to lock up the new battery. I did the valves again, this time to .005. I did not replace the vac or gas hoses. I like the way you did the 300hr service. Mine has 180hr. I got lots of tall weeds cut today. I hope the starter turns over tomorrow. Thanks.GW

I love the fact that Briggs uses a lot of metric stuff. 7,8,10,11,13, and 15mm are the only sockets you need, lol. I can't stand using SAE. I rarely use it unless I have to. It is just a headache.

I'm a 75 yr young woman, raised in an auto garage in summer. grew up very mechanical minded. will try
to fix it myself first, so your video ended before you actually change the oil. I wanted to see that, but I learned a lot. You can always learn a better way even if u do know how already. I've got to change the 3 blades and belts on my riding mower, hope that goes well. I can't figure out if my mower has a oil filter.

I probably would've given that exhaust valve another .001 or so, it'll tighten up more when the engine gets hot(just personal preference). Other than that, excellent video and very detailed.

I have a Craftsman mower with a 26hp Kohler engine that is having a similar issue. I was cutting grass with it, and it suddenly shut off. I initially thought the engine had locked up, but I eventually found that the starter had failed to disengage and the starter gear was jammed in the flywheel. The nut that secures the positive cable to the starter motor had also fallen off and the cable was disconnected. I took the starter motor off and bench tested it. Other than a slight wobble to the bendix, it worked fine. I replaced the solenoid after that. When I installed the new solenoid, I got nothing but the click. I eventually determined that the new solenoid was clicking as soon as I began to turn the key, and long before it reached the start position. I removed the connector from the ignition switch, and it is in rough shape. I reconnected it, turned the key to the run position, and laid a piece of metal across the terminals on the solenoid. It turned over when I did this, but the starter did not disengage, and got jammed in the flywheel again. My guess is that the ignition switch went bad, caused the starter to stay engaged, and the starter was damaged when it got jammed in the flywheel. Do you agree? Is there anything else I can check. I also cleaned all of the connections.

Thats always the first thing you do is clean the connections. A little WD- 40 goes a long way son. Always start with the obvious. My dad taught me that. You would be amazed at how much time and money you can save. Nice looking rig really. The home owner should have checked it himself. I see so many cars like that. I use a battery post spray paint on all my machines requiring a battery. No issues ever again.

NIce job Jeff: I had two of those last fall and this winter with broken cam compression release mechanism on them causing the starter to lock. Big engines, had to have my wife help remove one of them. Also saw a bulletin that the chokes were improperly adjusted from the factory. I think the oil quick release valve is either a 22 or 24 MM deep socket. I had to purchase one as I also had lots of those come loose on Briggs and also on Kohler's. Will check the size and let you know. Thanks for great video.

Take out the 2 bolts holding the starter on and it will be easy to get to the oil drain then. Now you can find out exactly what size wrench it needs for future reference and you can put a little thread locker on it so it won't come loose again.

Got a 2013 26 HP Kohler Courage in a Dixon riding mower, went through two Starters, other then that Oil, Grease, filters and Batteries. I use the crap out of it all year round for everything. I pulled 1500lb tree trunks, cut fields of Dry Weeds on 104+ degree days, 8 hrs straight with the motor sucking in nothing, but dirt and dry weeds. That's not including the dump shit my brother and I would do with it after work. Besides, when the starters went out, it starts in a crank. But maybe that's my luck.

I need help bad. I got a 21hp Briggs and Stratton riding mower and i hit water hose and it cut the hose up and didn't get stuck around the blades or anything but it made the mower bog down just enough to kill the engine now I can't get it to start back. I put new plug, new oil, new fuel filter and everything. I know it has hit a stump before bc my fired gave it to me when they moved so I replaced the pull that holds the right blade and put new blades and battery and it's ran all summer last yr now I hit a freakin waterhose and can't get the dang thing to start. It turns over and no weird noises but sounds like it's not firing at all. What in the world could it be keeping it from starting? Do you think it's that timing key? Maybe it purnit in jist enough bind or maybe when they hit stump it may have partly messed it up but still worked and then me hitting the hose was enough to do it in maybe. I need help bad though bc my yarn and aunts are growing fast and need it running asap. I'd GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY INFORMATION YOU COULD GIVE ME TO HELP. THANKS!
