Great version! She truly rocks the song! People who say that she should stuck to her genre, are plain ignorant! Mary J. Blige is an awesome artist. She's well know over the world. People are sometimes very close minded when it comes to listening to music from people who are not the same skin color as them. By the way, I'm a big Led Zeppelin fan.
When someone has a voice like Mary J., you can't really call anything she does "butchering". I think she brings soul and a unique passion to it. Also, I think you have to listen to it like you've never listened to the original. I had to do that with Dolly Parton's version.
Mary put her own stamp on this its very hard to compare her to Robert Plant's rock voice. She is very brave to attempt this and should be given credit for that she is a legend in her own right let's not forget.
Not much of a fan of Mary J, but this is a pretty good cover of the song. She has a great voice and did a nice job with it. Purists generally don't have much love for seeing something they love re-done by someone else from what I have seen. The point isn't to outdo the original. That is usually impossible to do, but it i a great opportunity to bring different audiences to the original. And I think it is classy and shows respect, but that is just me.
Different, different indeed. But very well done. She always has had a beautiful voice. Kudos to her for having the courage to cover this song. There's always gonna be the people who find covering a song a sin against God but that's their problem. I think this is damn good.
It's not bad version I liked it, it just doesn't give you the chills like when you listen to the original 12 minute version. Robert Plant with his bluesy voice and Jimmy Page, with his warm guitar tone is want makes the song such a classic.
this rendition is not a remake it was rearranged for her as if it was written for her and hse sings it the way she feels it, her version is a women that may have lost all hope or see her chance to buy her way into heaven maybe she has money and believes she has a right to get into heaven its pretty sad song it could be interpreted in so many ways thats why its a complete song
I was really skeptical at first of Mary taking on this song, but she surprised me. I realize that to some people it's blasphemy to remake this song, but she did a great job with the arrangement, didn't change it too much from the original, and introduced it to a whole new generation.
ALL COMMENTS WILL NOW BE MODERATED. This post is for Mary J. Blige fans. If you love Led Zepplin, cool. If you have something mean to say about MJB or her fans, go somewhere else.
@Steelbullets Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm was as good as the original. Soft Cell's Tainted Love was better than the original. Elvis Presley's Hound Dog, Mariah Carey's I'll Be There, Blue Monday by Orgy... there are so many great remakes out there that blow your theory out of the water. But thanks for watching.
She has good vocal skills and a great voice, I'll give her that. She does a decent job singing, and Robert Plant my favourite vocalist. But what infuriates me is that, the background musicians can't even compare to Jimmy Page, John Bonham and JPJ in every single aspect.
I like Mary J Blige, she has a wonderful voice and seems a nice person. However, this song is twelve minutes long for a reason... the music. "If you listen very hard... the tune will come to you at last." The TUNE, Mary. Without the tune, you're missing the point.

I absolutely love this and think MJB still kicks major butt!!!
Mary J. Blige is the best!
Not a fan of MJB nor a big fan of LZ, but this is some amazing talent.

I would not have thought Mary had it in her...PEACE.
I'm sorry I disagree, Mary J. Blige did her thing as usual.
Great remake, why can't singres do there version of a classic ? Nothing new under the sun. So why not do your own interpation of a classic.

@MaliaSaiz WAT??? alien ant farm's version was NOT as good as michaels!!! that is a classic. I do give it to u tho for Soft cell's tainted love.
She needs to fire those guys and hire a real band. Otherwise she sang this nicely. Go girl :)
