ESC Thumb Stick Servo Controller

- In this video, I compare an unbranded ESC Thumb Stick and stock servo tester using a Newport Vessels 36lb thrust trolling motor. The trolling motor was modified with a Hobbywing QuicRun 880 ESC in the head unit. Although both controller amp draws were consistent in values, the overall amp draw was less than expected. This may have been due to my water tank test set up.
Parts:
* Newport Vessels 12V 36lb thrust trolling motor.
* Hobbywing Quicrun 880 ESC.

Thank you kindly.
Good tutorial.😀
Cheers m8.😀
Thanks. Glad to help.
Hey mate love your videos. Been very helpful here in australia! Any suggestions for adding electronic foot pedals for steering? I use a 60kg servo with a 3d printed servo housing attached to the motor shaft with an RC controller to steer but would love to go hands-free again but still be wireless
Thanks! I would like to see your set up it sounds really nice. I have never done a foot pedal set up like that but a rocker switch on a foot pad might work.
@@Aksmaniyak it'll be out on the water next few days as I've just updated the servo housing to include a thrust bearing. I'll throw up some videos and get back to you with them once it's done 👍
@@Aksmaniyak rocker switch.. duh
That'd work. Now to find some pre-made foot pads to mount Infront of a switch 🤣 might just get the 3d printer cranking
Great!
Awesome!
I am planning to do this but can’t find anywhere where it says what length the wiring is. Can you please let me know, Thank you
It wasn't listed and I don't think it would be accurate anyway. My wiring is straight and the photo shows coiled.
Can you set the speed for cruising or if you let go will it return to zero and stop the motor?
This operates like a standard joystick.
Thur all your testing have you found if a 30lb motor will draw the same amps as say a 50lb at a low speed of say 1mph. My craigslist 30lb is on its last leg so im wondering if I should get a 50 or 55lb. I mainly use for trolling kokanne at 1-1.5mph but would take the extra speed if the 880 can handle it and it dosnt cost me more battery to troll. Excellent video by the way. The more options the better.
Thanks. The larger thrust motor will draw more amps. I do not recommend the ESC 880 for motors 50lbs or above.
Dam i forgot, you already told me to stay under 50lb on my 880. I guess ill just order a new 30lb.
If you want to use the larger TM, you can go with the Minn Kota Traxxis control board build.
