I use it with a Bifrost 2 and a Focal Clear and I love how it sharpens the timbre. One thing I noticed after almost an year is that the sound becomes sharper in high gain, which I preffer (at least on my unit). So I am lowering the gain via equalizer apo tobe able to use the amp in high gain. Best sound chain I've ever had.
How high do you need to turn the sh 9 up compared to the sp200 because it seems like the new sp400 even with it's something like double the power doesn't get as loud as the sp200. For example someone said sp200 at 12-1 o clock is louder than the sp400 at 99 max. I realize that's too loud to listen to but there's a vast power difference and it doesn't quite make sense.
@@maxsettings7884 is that on high gain? I had to run the Focal Elex at 50 on high gain and that just doesn't seem right. They're pretty easy to drive and the SP400 supposedly has massive amounts of power.
I have to say, I’m a little disappointed with all the sp200 reviews. Yes it isn’t the absolute best lush amplifier. If one has had to listen back and forth for hours to discern a difference in sound then it’s a great engineering feat for the money. Price comparatively it’s bonkers. The fact that this can be compared to the 2k benchmark says it all. I think if this was made by drop or designed by Cavalli at this price everybody would be jizzing in their pants. Well done smsl and thank you for offering a very sensible price on a headphone amp for real people.
i have this amp! its great, combined to the SMSL SU8 dac. I plan to buy an alesis strike amp12 speaker for my drumkit. I have the SU8 dac connected to this amp with XLR. Can i use at the same time the front XLR output (for the strike amp) and the 1/4 output (for my headphones)?
Honestly after getting this I'm sending it back it does not seem to even be true stereo there's little to none soundstage I found its to the point that you can unplug a RCA cable and your still have sound in both headphones useless for gaming maybe mine was defective

One of the best amplifiers for its price, they have also released their latest SP400 now with THX AAA-888 amp circuit
Doesn't this use the 888 as well?

Think it is probably because the SP200 has way higher gain stages. SH9 I use most things around 40-50.

Great take on this one
Good review, sir. I used to own this amp and ended up selling it because I came to the conclusions that you did. Ultra-clean but kinda boring, IMHO.
does it have an auto shutoff?
Try with the beyerdinamic dt 880 600 ohm.
