Good to see you're back Ram. Hope you're getting better. Since the review is about a Guerlain, I'll like to tell a story about a Guerlain and a dear friend. I unfortunately lost her yesterday, she was 90 years old. Perfumes brought us together. My God what fragrances can do. First time I met her a couple of years ago, I must have been wearing an old Guerlain, 85 Derby it was if memories serve me right. She instantly knew what I was wearing. I was stunned and inquisitive, I wanted to know how she knew that. She was born in Austria, lived most of her life in Germany. She worked directly with Karl Lagerfeld in the 80s and early 90s. She knew all the great ''noses'' from that era. When it comes to perfumes, people don't think about Germany. But some great vintage fragrances were made in West Germany in the 80s. Whenever we met all we talked about was the art of perfumery, she was the master and I was the diligent student. Last time I saw her two weeks ago, young man you smell gorgeous she said. Of course she knew what I was wearing, Heritage. What a Lady. Warmest regards from Germany. Stay 💪🏽 and keep ya head up. SOTD, JHL 👊🏾.
i kept thinking of hermès’ hiris during your description of a dry iris as that’s one of my favourites. polished, elegant, the goldilocks if you will : never too floral, earthy, buttery or woody; everything is just right. it’s interesting how delphine jelk is signing recent creations. i remember how sylvaine delacourte even when thierry wasser first joined the house, was co-creating with him & it was very much of a partnership up till she left. or maybe TW simply wants to devote more time in ingredient sourcing which will be an unsurprising passion given his training in botany. it could also be his way of searching for natural alternatives to contolled/ banned ingredients. i read that his reformlation of mitsuoko (10 yrs ago or so) replaced oakmoss with a combination of natural mosses & other ingredients rather than replacing the note with a synthetic molecule.
Totally with you on the 'papery' vibe. Even in the late 2000s I was comparing the opening of DH to the smell of wet cardboard. 😄 But formula recycling has been happening for years. Makes sense from a budget point of view. 🤑 Calling conglomerates out on it should be a thing. ☝
I agree that iris can smell cold, and the nerd that I am I found an article on how some things can smell COLD.. Like the physiology of it. I feel like when you add a bit of sweet notes to iris, or coffee, it doesn’t smell cold. I agree with the cappuccino comment!
I agree with you on this one. It's a good fragrance for sure, just expensive considering all the factors that you pointed out. I got a sample of Rose Barbare the other day by MFK and was super surprised. It might be my favorite Guerlain from that expensive collection.
I enjoy this, as a huge fan of the Dior Homme line, but I still prefer that. Uniqueness became an important factor in choosing my next buy a while ago, especially with those prices 😂 Still, a pretty good perfume, and I totally get that papery vibe, and I like that in here. Cheers!
New sub here! As a fragrances beginner (few years), I enjoy your content a lot and I appreciate the knowledge sharing! You definitely know your stuff. I recently learned that many of these "reviewers" are more like businessman/business women lol. Off topic questions, if you don't mind me asking, you mentioned your half Arabic. Where from? Im arabic that's why I ask 😅. You also mention Anoog a few times? Is he a UA-camr? Thank you again and always stay 100% Authentic ✊🏻
As someone who owns both perfumes, I prefer the scent of Dior Homme Intense. HOWEVER, the quality of this frag is weak with almost no projection or longevity. Such a shame. That's something that Iris Torrifie doesn't suffer from, since it's very strong with good projection and longevity. Also a lovely scent, but I do wish Dior Home Intense were stronger.
Cheers Rams, love the call out of LVMH, on the bastardizing of houses, allegedly of course lol 😂, they will only succeed in angering and alienating the various houses fan base and end up F- ing up their whole damn show. Then a big uturn and back to basics , yeah dammit I am still waiting on Serge to release his Iris silver mist , it’s been a long minute for sure. Have a good one mate 💪🤛👊
one of my favorites; i just wish they made a 50ml or a travel size. I would love a 100ml but the price is insane, it's the only thing that has kept me from purchasing. and i feel like lvmh is such a leech with their pricing...i have never tried Dior Homme Intense, maybe I will have to settle. we'll see!
I don't do shorts But I have done many new perfume reviews and more to come Actually this is a pretty new fragrance it's only 4 years old from 2020 So I go all over the spectrum new / old Niche / designer Expensive / cheap
Ramsey, if someday you decide to give up with youtube, please, NO ELIMINATE YOUR VIDEOS. A random PhD could make the biggest textbook about perfumery using your videos as almost the only researching resource. Keep make us happy hhahaha
I really like that fragrance but it doesn’t live up to the price. I hesitate to buy any 100 ml bottle, it just is so much bound capital. I just went to Copenhagen and was proud to come home with only a 15 ml of Psychedelique from Jovoy and a discovery set from Puredistance. Do not want to grow my collection because I tend to get bored with my perfumes. Even if they are beautiful, my nose keeps demanding challenge and surprise. Like it wants things procent to sort of figure out.
Delphine has taken over. 🙄 I feel like Thierry was supervising her work before, and I love Iris T. The newer Guerlains, including Tobacco honey, and neroli plein sud were meh at best. The upcoming Peche Mirage is also boring and basic. I liked Paris Patchouli , but that also failed to represent French taste in perfumes.. parisians don’t wear in your face patchouli fragrances generally lol
Yeah that's a good shout... Guerlain is my favorite French house, but not for anything they have put out in the last 20 years! I think L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme was the last great Guerlain 🥲 After that is was LVMHGuerlain if you get what I mean
