What a wondrous morning in my fine Kingdom. We will all walk the gardens, inspect the pigs and shoot quail, and tonight we will dine and sing in the Great Hall.
Most of the documents that have survived were actually processed sheepskin. It required special treatment to make it into parchment-like material. It's incredible when we remember that they had to mix their own inks and that they used goose quills as writing pens! I was lucky to have a geneologist as a first-cousin. Back before the internet, she traced my father's side across the water to English royalty. I have some Plantagenet genes in my genetic pattern.

I want to know why the hurdy gurdy or some modern equivalent is not still a thing. It sounds really cool, and what's wrong with the idea of a string instrument bowed with a rotating wheel and keyed to make the notes? It is a cool concept. You could make it electric, or even more complex with multiple registers so you could play two handed.
Another hour of medieval music I have really enjoyed. Thanks a lot! By the way: I would love to know where and what that beautiful castle ruin after 56:15 is. May anyone tell me, please?
Good morning, it's the castle of Dürnstein in Austria. It's the place where Richard Lionheart was kept prisoner by Leopold of Austria who accused Richard of the murder of his cousin Conrad of Montferrato. This is the suggestive place where Richard wrote "Ja nus hons pris" (No man who is imprisoned).
