Album: The songs of Kings and Princes of the Middle Ages
Video: When it was possible, I put the notes and lyrics of the songs from the original manuscripts. When I have not found musical sources, I have used images concerning musicians.
    Manuscripts are:
272v) - Naples Bible
    / musicamedievale

If our society would start to celebrate the great personalities of the past for their art instead that for their wars, massacres and battles, surely we could create a better society.

From the booklet of this album, Guy Roberts wrote:
It is customary today to smile at the literary or artistic pretentions of the "Great". If History willingly grants them a leading role as humanist and protector of the arts, it is, by contrast, more caustic towards their talents as artists. This judgement, certainly valid for the Renaissance, cannot be applied to this fascinating period of toubadores and trouveres.
The art of these "trouveurs" of the XIth, XIIth and XIIIth centuries is a feudal art; knights, lord and princes opposing one another in poetic joustings with the greatest being, despite their political occupations, not the least among these musician-poets. Thibaut of Navarre and Alfonso the Wise, for example, are to be found among the finest artists of these few generations.
    I wish you happy listening!

Most of the documents that have survived were actually processed sheepskin. It required special treatment to make it into parchment-like material. It's incredible when we remember that they had to mix their own inks and that they used goose quills as writing pens! I was lucky to have a geneologist as a first-cousin. Back before the internet, she traced my father's side across the water to English royalty. I have some Plantagenet genes in my genetic pattern.

I want to know why the hurdy gurdy or some modern equivalent is not still a thing. It sounds really cool, and what's wrong with the idea of a string instrument bowed with a rotating wheel and keyed to make the notes? It is a cool concept. You could make it electric, or even more complex with multiple registers so you could play two handed.

Oh please please, name the King and Queen at 41 mins with 2 ladies at right, one in red and one in blue, and two children kneeling in front of the lady in red. The Queen is pointing to them. Who are they? What country? What year, or decade? And who are the children?
And before this ‘picture’ the previous one with a King of France and Archbishop, and 2 bishops or cardinals at the left of the picture.
    Again - Who? Where? When?
And the one before that, a King of England and his Court. Again - Who? Where? When?

      FIRST: Relax 🍃
Well, the king and the queen are Charles D'Anjou and his wife Beatrice di Provenza from the manuscript called Naples Bible and in the previous image there's always Charles but with Martin IV.
The last image you asked for, represents king Alfonso X el Sabio from his manuscript "Libro de los Juegos".
