Imagine, you are next to the Mura River, in the Murščak forest in Međimurje. It was the rainforest where pedunculate oak reigned. Far from human settlements in the rich floodplain forests nested numerous black storks. Predators were lurking, and the howling of the wolves could be heard. Feeling scared? Relax. The fate of the lush forests turns into a sad story. Međimurje forests were managed by the Zagreb Forestry Slavonia. The relentless deforestation started. Wolves have disappeared and black storks became rare. Today, only ten percent of the area in Međimurje county is covered by forest. They are mourned by two rivers, the Mura and the Drava. Meet them!
