As much as I want to root for a banshee, I own one and I know what it can do, I highly doubt it could take a CR. Not saying it wouldn't be a good video, I'd definitely watch it.

From the video you can not really tell how fast the side by sides are going. But the fact that it's keeping us with that CR 500. Now I know that side by side is totally a ripper. That's amazing.
Back in the day when we had an Ice track up here in Fairbanks, Alaska I raced my Honda 426EX with a guy who had a CR500. It was crazy watching him race that thing on ice. The spikes coming out of the tires would shred his legs to pieces and yet he had no fear. RIP Danny. You we're a mad man!!
I started riding my dads yz490 at 13 because I had outgrown my 125 and hadn't saved enough to buy a new bike yet. I ended up buying the yz and those bikes are absolutely insane. Like he said about the cr500...it's violent!
I have never appreciated a blog more. I'm born and raised on 2 strokes and the fact that you "inherented" the Cr 500 is kismet! Couldn't go to a better home. PS Rich Rules !! ON THE CR
I always found the trick to cold starting a CR500 was tip it on it's side and stand it up until you see gas come out of the overflow then hold it 1/4 throttle and very slowly kick it past the compression stroke 2-3 times you will feel it get harder to get past the compression stroke with fuel then get it TDC and kick it with no throttle. Worked every time.
Just when I thought this channel couldnt get any better you went and added a CR500!! You guys need to talk to Eric Gorr Racing and get that thing burning right and putting down some big numbers.
i think his weight helped him out as well i know it helped me out a lot and getting close to the tank as possible to keep them from coming up on me from a dig
That CR500 needs some love boys. My 86 model would wheelie 1-4 on the tank like it or not and fifth if you wanted it! Miss it but don’t regret not kick starting it anymore! Gotta lean it and find TDC like many comments have said and always wear a boot to kick it!!! I split the sole on a MX boot starting mine! We named mine “the cussing bike” because you had to cuss before it would start! My brother cusses it now!! 😂 Great video!!!!
I've never rode a CR500 but I've been on a KX500 a few times and the 2 stroke power band is actually kinda dangerous. Rick just makes it look easy, its really not tho they want to flip over when the power hits
The right way to cold start a CR500 - 1 Turn gas on and lean bike to side till gas spills out the over flow. 2 Put bike in second gear and push forward and back a couple times to prime the cylinder. 3 Kick start using most of your body weight and a full kick as far as it will go. It will start first kick! Wear heavy boots I tore a Nike sneaker dam near in half once it hurt like hell.
I’m no CR500 expert but I’ve seen people claim a built one, maybe bigger bore, porting, pipe, high compression and race gas, is capable of 90hp or more. That would be a different animal I bet. Either way, I love the two stroke content from the Can Do X2 and now the CR500. Need to bring out Dooglas’s Banshee now too
There is a whole process to starting the cr500 on the first kick . Tip it on its side till gas comes out of the overflow . Put it in 2nd gear and rock it forward and backwards then . Then put the engine a little past TDC then kick the crap out of it .I had the cr480 with the left side Kickstart
Little trick for starting a cold cr500: tilt the bike over on its side at about a 45 degree angle until gas starts coming out of the carb overflow tube on the bottom of the bike, then start it. Usually will fire in a couple kicks that way👍
No it doesn’t. Ive been racing for 16 years and thats how i shift. I have never had any problems with my trans and neither has any of my friends that shift the same way. I pass people in strait aways when shifting on the gas and I hear them get off the gas.
Hey guys if it has factory kehin Pj carb take it off and throw it away. You need a kehin pwk 39.5 mm. Races these bikes for years. That carb will bring to life. It sounds extremely lean the way it is now.
Yankum Reed had the right idea, Cr500 2stroke against the CanDoo 2stroke creature is the race to be raced!!!! Lets get it fellas 🤙🦅......and this makes me miss all my dirtbikes i grew up riding, miss that power band!!
I think someone has probably posted already, but cold start on a CR500 u have to lean it over to the left side till gas comes out the carb overflow, then choke and bring it up to TDC and jump with everything! If it has more than 80psi of compression should start first kick. 👍 if Spencer decides to sell it, I’m interested

I raced both a CR500 and a KX500 for 15 years in desert races in Arizona and Mexico. If you want to tame down that hard hit off the start go down two teeth smaller on the rear sprocket and add one tooth on the front sprocket. You can also add a weighted fly wheel. The carbs on those were pretty good and are very easy to tune. I am sure you guys can get way more power out of that bike. The CR’s had the best brakes, clutches and shifting out of any of the open class desert bikes of that time. I would still be riding a big cc bike if I could but as the saying goes “with age comes a cage”.

This is the perfect opportunity to take Doug’s Banshees out of moth balls. Perfect old school 2 stroke battle
I was just a little disappointed when I found out it wasn't going to be a built up Banshee.
