Big crabby flies sz 1 always worked for me in HI. I loose half a dozen a week on break offs. Used to keep this a secret even from Lefty Kreh and my California and Washinton state friends. The word is out now after Nervious Waters got established in Wikiki. Bonefish are more the size like the Indian Ocean bonefish .
Awesome, fished most of those areas way back in the 1990's when it was less pressure on the bonefish. Still quite exciting to see these areas once again. Exceptional video.
Mike! You guys crack me up! I guess it's not as easy as Colin makes it look. Your outfit and the guys you have are the best! It was tough fishing, but the 7Lb reward was something I'll never forget. We will be in Oahu again this summer. Hookup with you guys again for sure! Mike I hope your not on another surfing tour, we gotta hookup this time. If your on the mainland call me and we can fly fish da surf or do the sierra thing. Tight lines, John
When the narrator says "for some reason they are harder catch"...I know why, the natives hunt them with cast nets and eat them. You see the fish everywhere, but they are some of the spookiest bones in the world.
This video is good for my fishing ego. In May of 2009 Mike Fished me on that Bombed flat. I was on my way back to Colorado from Australia, and decided to book a day. I felt like Sh*t. I had contracted some kind of really bad head cold while in Australia, but I had heard about the size of the fish around Hawaii and just couldn’t back out on the day. It was my 1st time Bone-fishing, I was a rookie, but I hooked two bones on the flat near, I think, Hickam Field. They both broke off in the coral. It was tough for me cause I really wanted to land one, plus, did I mention I felt like F#@K warmed over? Anyway, we moved to some flat that was sorta ugly, I remember getting out of the boat and wading up to an old TV-set that had been thrown onto the flat and left as trash. There was some vegetation on the flat, and Mike said there were lots of Tigers in the canal that ran near the flat. My wife was in the boat, and he suggested she not swim where we left her as we waded. Just as the day was drawing to a close, with the sun right in my face, a 10lb’r swam blindly toward us as we crouched staring into glaring water. Literally only a couple of feet off the tip of my 10wt, he ate, turned, and ran. I was so pissed at losing the other two, I subconsciously pinched too hard on the fly line, and, well... Oh and did I tell you I was sick as a dog?, and, well, you can guess what that biggest Bonefish I’ve ever seen did to my leader. POW! When we got back to the dock, I overheard Mike talking to some other Tools down the plank about “what a terrible fisherman that guy is, and he just blew all the shots I got him.” And finally “God, That guy just sucks!” I found out when I got back to Colorado that I had the Swine Flu. Oh well, what comes around, goes around I guess 😆😏😏🤨😂

Finally an honest guide! He ain't getting rich, but the reward is being on the water, in all of natures beauty & bounty.
I've fished for Bones in the Keys and the Bahamas, now I'll consider Hawaii. Right on!!
Hahaha I was gonna have to say something... those trout sets made my stomach hurt 😂
That looks like a blast! Nice video.
