  • Retirement is a time when you should be enjoying things like golfing, special vacations, playing with your grandchildren, but instead, one local man is doing the opposite.

the big companies won't hire experienced drivers, who have not been driving in the last 5yrs! I drove 25yrs, left 5yrs, tried to get hired on, got nothing but excuses!

This is hilarious ( no not the guy’s situations) the fact that they can’t get average age people to come out here . They have to send recruiters to the geriatric centers to find drivers . Lmao !!!

This guy should be commended for wanting to work. Let's face it . I use to teach at a Junior College in New Mexico. Even though I work for them two years this old guy Don wanted everything his way. All we taught was enough to get you a CDL . No night time driving,no overnight,no job placement, no simulator, no paper or electronic logs,no truck maintenance, no fueling, what to do in an emergency. So you see the student got nothing not even job placement. I would not trust one of these students to get out of the parking lot . I voiced my opinion to the Dean of Transportation and was shot down on every aspect. The dean was calling the shots and he didnt know how to drive a semi or even have a CDL. This is the kind of training these quick 3 week schools teach. 87 year old man behind the seat is like a death sentence to fellow drivers and the families who use our public highways.

There wouldn’t be a shortage if drivers were paid what their worth!

Big mistake right here if he passes a DOT physical and kills a family that will be the end of whatever company takes him. He won't make it past one I can almost guarantee that seeing how what I had to do to pass mine.

Either way trucking companies are doomed.

Get rid of e-logs, add a lot more truck parking, and dramatically raise the pay. Do those things and the shortage won't be a problem.

If it's short on drivers why not pay more to the drivers. You think swift for example paying 600 to 700 a week working 24hrs a day is enough to encourage others to come into trucking?

They don’t want to get into it because people like myself (being honest) tell them how miserable that job really is .
    The intelligent listen .
The ones that think we’re not being honest find out the hard way .

Are you fuckin kidding me!! No goddamn way an 80 plus person should be in a tractor trailer, unless they’re in the passenger seat. Fun??? Not anymore sir! Deadlines, tight docks, overcrowded truck stops, cranky shippers, and now the new ELD’s are mandatory. Sorry man, I wish you the best.
