      Excel Dent Removal how about a small dent and will it mess up the paint or the clear coat

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  6 років тому +2

      A small dent might be possible if it is in the corner of the bumper. Small dents in the middle tend to stretch the plastic material and make it more difficult to push it back in place. It would require using constant heat on the area and tools to try to push it back.
      It shouldn’t damage the paint if it is already in good condition.
      Otherwise a body shop would have to fill the dent and repaint the bumper.

      How much does it cost for the average removal of a dent like that

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  4 роки тому +2

      The cost can vary depending on the damage and the work needed.
      For just basic removal of the dent in a bumper the cost can be $150-$300.

      Right? I wish I knew this 10 years ago after hitting a small, but rock hard snow/ice mound at...no more than 1.5mph!. Front corner bumper caved in as if it was made of tin foil!(scary how fragile that is) I made the claim, auto shop repaired it, new bumper. $500! I could have done this. Yesterday I did on my rear bumper when someone hit me in a Target parking lot on Wed. - while I was in Target...they drove off. Anyway...$$$ saved, dent is out. Just need to smooth it out some more. Used a hair dryer, but picked up heat gun last night which should help a LOT more!

    Perfect! I really dented my front bumper cover last night - very badly, on my 2005 Mazda Tribute. I pulled the whole bumper cover, 7 screw and eight or ten clips, half of the clips were missing. I worked mostly from the back, using a thermometer gun and a heat gun...I just heated up the pressure points (who knew?) to 225ºF, since you already told us an approximate temp (165ºF was insufficient for my cover) from the back and stood on them (my wife was holding up the cover so I had a flat surface) - perfect! Some really crinkley points needed some 2"x4" persuasion, but they were very sharp points. The high, constant heat was key, and working from the back kept the paint safe. This was my first time doing this, after a sleepless night of searching the net for a replacement bumper (use Trustpilot before buying a bumper from anybody). Now it looks as good as new, really. I wanted to send photos but Google is still useless when it comes to photos in comments...
    Thank you so much for your video!

    Great video. Someone left a huge dent in the corner of the front bumper of my 2015 Nissan Micra (we're a long way from Minnesota), but using the heat gun like this I was able to pop it right out again. I left the fog lamp in place and just heated around it. Now, apart from a few scuff marks it looks the same as before! Thanks!

    Thank you for the tip, works great. I didn't have a heat gun so I used a hair dryer and it got 95% of the dent out. I will borrow my son's heat gun when I get a chance and try to finish it off. The heat and a little patience sure does the trick.

    Appreciate the sharing of your expertise. I ended up pulling off half my bumper, & heating the main concentration of the dent it up with a hairdryer. Got my hand behind the dent, & with my heaviest Michigan work glove, popped it back out. I then had my wife keep heating it as I used the butt of my screw driver to help bring it out a bit more from the inside. The dent popped out probably 98 percent, & because it's the lower bumper (you can't really tell unless you were really trying hard to find it). Thanks again!

    I just found your UA-cam video and I appreciate you educating us folks who have to do things by ourselves. I'm going to be working on a right rear Toyota Yaris bumper on a four-door sedan. My brother-in-law fixed his previous car with the basketball after he took out the tail light lens and it looked fairly good. I am in no way looking for Perfection I just want to make it look a lot better than it does right now. But seeing as it is winter time and the end of December 2022, I'm going to see if I can do this using my heat gun as well to make it a better job. Wish me luck.

    Thanks! Yep, woke up yesterday and saw a deep dent on back corner of my Nissan (assuming this happened at my local Target on Wed....smh). Worked like a charm, not finished yet. Now getting access to behind my Nissan bumper was actually the hard part...not much room behind it - thats always bee an issue with this car...space! Even after loosing the bumper, removing 10m screw, few clips which was enough to heat it up w/ blow dryer and push the major dent out. I did pick up a heat gun last night which should help more than the air dryer (the slight breeze I had cooled off bumper faster than I wanted, even with 85º outside temps) , so I will work evening some of the slight bumps, making this as smooth as possible. Just thrilled the unsightly pushed in bumper is 95-96% back to normal again.

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  Рік тому +1

      Yes, I believe I do show that I heat it from the inside of the bumper also. This does allow to heat the plastic a little more without burning the paint. But it can still get hot enough to melt it. That is why a temp gauge is used to monitor the panel temp.

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  7 місяців тому +1

      You will want to make sure to use the infrared temp gauge on the panel. This is the most accurate temp. You will want the panel temperatures to be about 150* F, but no more than 200.
      Also the color of the paint can affect how hot you want it. Lighter colors will burn the clear coat with height temps.

      If they are the removable clips. Sometimes they can be reused if they are still in good condition. Otherwise if they break when removed, then they can be replaced. Some auto parts stores will have them or they can be purchased from the dealer for your specific car.

    hear dryer vs heat gun which one is better? I used a hair dryer on my vehicle dent but seems like front bumper plastic is way too strong. Please help.

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  2 роки тому

      A heat gun is better because it can get to a higher temperature, but you also need to be careful not to burn or melt the paint.
      If that feels like a risk to you, then having some else help with a hair dryer might be ok.

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  5 років тому

      I’m not as familiar with fillers and painting. I just strictly do paintless dent removal.
      From what I understand from the body shops I work with. You are limited with fillers and need to add some “flex products” to the paint since the bumpers are plastic.

    Great video. Would you have any experience with using the method on fiberglass? I have a dented Thule car top carrier that I'd like to straighten out.

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  5 років тому +1

      I don’t see this working on fiberglass. Fiberglass doesn’t have any flexibility and either won’t move or it would crack.
      Usually fiberglass won’t dent but would crack upon impact. It could be your carrier is a type of plastic and then this method could work on it.

      We bought the topper while on vacation last week in Duluth. At home, one family member forgot about it before pulling into the garage. Had the circumstances been different we would have just taken I35 and brought it in to your shop.

      Best regards.

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  5 років тому +1

      You could still attempt it to see if it will work. It would still be a “fiber” material, so it’s less likely to be flexible.

    • @exceldentremoval

      It can be different for each car, but most have a bolt in the upper corner behind the wheel well. Usually a 10mm.
      Then remove any other screws or clips in the wheel well area and underneath the bumper.
      After all are removed, it can be gently pulled away. The bumper “snaps” onto a bracket behind it.

    • @exceldentremoval

      There are a few factors that affect the cost and time to properly repair a dent in a bumper.
      Most of these type of dents that I repair can range from $200-$450.
      This will depend on how much work is involved with the repair, including the size of the dent, what needs to be removed for access behind the bumper, and any “clean up” work needed for sanding and buffing if needed.

    That looks like even I could do it... I have a 2014 Toyota Prius V and was stopped by a guy who works at the local dealer who told me I had a dent in my front bumper. There's a long story, but basically, he told me that if I took it to the dealer, they'd charge me thousands of dollars to repair it, and he had a guy in the car with him who just started working on it without my permission. After it was fixed, he said he had to replace all 16 brackets that he'd put in place (I was told I had to sit on the brake, so I couldn't watch what he was doing) by tonight or he'd lose his job. Then he said they were $389 each and he'd used 16 of them (aha - thousands of dollars anyway...). I couldn't pay him anything today, and got slightly hysterical at the thought of finding $6000+ I didn't have. I think I've been had. What do you think?

    • @exceldentremoval
      @exceldentremoval  6 років тому +1

      I’m so sorry this has happened to you. 🙁
      This unfortunately is a SCAM.
      They will usually approach you in a parking lot and tell you they can repair the damage.
      Usually they don’t even repair it but even make it worse which will cost even more later to have it done right.
      It’s a good thing that you didn’t pay him anything right away. If they are still trying to get money out of you for it. Then I would report it to the police.

    I don't think everyone is going to use the time to go and buy a heating gun I seen videos where they boil the hot water and they pour it on the plastic bumper and then they push the bump out it seems like that works better than wasting money on buying the heat and gun and then trying to push out a dent. also the ones that use hot water it did not take long for their dent to come out their car.

      I can tell you now from experience a heat gun is the way to go if you think you're wasting time to go buy a heat gun ? Hot water along with the wet mess ..... sounds like you are trolling 😂

    Ah, my wife hit a bear. I think it ran away with some sore ribs. Nice dent though.

      The damage to the corner of the plastic bumper often does not damage the metal bumper or the structure of the car.
      If the damage is is in the middle of the bumper or the damage is severe enough to cause additional damages behind the bumper, then this would require a body shop to replace or repair those parts before replacing the outer bumper shell.
