JT your doing a great job and im a firm believer in using older equipment thats paid for and still works. I dont mind working my older stuff i actually like it.
That tractor sound great for being a junkyard pile. 😊 I dont know how you get so lucky. Between 2 trucks several tractors the forklift that barely ran and the little Ford with the bad shifter.. nobody could write this stuff! 👍👍
I love that everything paid for makes life less stressful alway be happy with what you have and the value on that machean will never lose value at this point
Hello, I have just seen your video on sowing. Thank you for all these explanations. You have great merit in working with old equipment which does not prevent you from doing very good work. Sorry for the translation because I am French.
Sorry i Have not been around for a while. Old Helene hit us pretty hard a couple weeks ago. 8 days no power and no water any where! Lots of my neighboring counties and towns are gone now.She took a pretty bad blow on us. Some coming out and some are going to be years coming out. We are the lucky ones in Shelby N.C. But great to be back on board with your videos. Thanks for sharing and thanks for taking me along.
Great video again JT, love seeing the work getting done with more than adequate machinery, and the smile on your face says it all. Keep it up mate, loving the content.
JT, you're really making the best of what you have - you have invested in quality equipment that's straightforward to fix, you're working land that is available and appropriate, and your use of your mobile phone for the GPS tracking is inspired!! I almost want to be a farmer....!! 😂
I seem to recall my dad drilling barley at 10 stone to the acre, with wheat he upped it to about 12 stone an acre, presumably because it was heavier. He didn’t seem to mind if he ended up putting on a bit more, except if he was drilling new seed and he ran out before he finished and had to drive twelve miles to the mill to get a few more bags.😊. He used a fifteen coulter drill which must have been from the thirties or forties at least. Me or one of my brothers would stand on the back making sure everything was working as it should and making sure it didnt run out. He used the grey Fergie mostly or sometimes one of the Standard Fordsons before he bought the TE 20 in the early fifties. He certainly would have been happy if it had been a bit bigger like the 35/35x/135.
I still think that 1105 sounds super nice with the stack on it. really like the harvest videos its that time of year and we can all dig it! thanks jt looking forward to the rest of the beans and corn!
Good to have a beautiful red tractor for every single implement.... Might need to get another implement next year to justify two or three more tractors 😃
Geese? Bear bangers and firecrackers. Sometimes, "Special" shot gun loads, no pellets, just a patch and extra powder. Scare 'em once, you're usually good for a few days, sometimes even a week. Did you consider rolling it after the plant? Hearing that ole Perkins popping makes a man's heart warm all over. Keep saving them JT. They're waiting for ya......
I grew up farming in sw Kansas. My dad always set the grain drills to seed 60 lbs per acre. Sometimes even that was too much if we didn't get any rain. We always saved a load of wheat back from harvest and had it cleaned to use as seed wheat. I can't imagine what you paid per bushel for that certified seed!! Best of luck on a good crop next year!
Yup you said....planting with 70s n 80s equipment.....my farm is the same way....got the same drill as you....just a 5300....n all paid for ...keep on doing what ur doing ...love ur vids. ..n look forward to em....happy harvest from one farmer to another
Love the small farming, we’re on a fair bit bigger level of farming than you but i still love these videos. We still run bags of canola up here and we put 16 at a time in the front end loader of our 1070 case and lift them up to the top of the air cart. Boy did that make a difference when we decided to do that. No more hiking up the drill with 50lb bags, everything up there and just pull them off the loader, open and dump. As for wheat we keep our seed and fill the front tank right full at 120bu and the back two tanks are fertilizer
Good one J T . A good simple basis operation their , no computers on the tractor , no seed monitors for the combine planter . I hope you get a bit of rain and have a good wheat crop .
JT that was fun. I wouldn’t say boring, I’ve never watched anyone running a drill. When you’re around corn and bean farmers it’s mostly planters. So I enjoyed it. Good to see the 1105 at work.
JT, You asked how to keep geese out of your fields. Louisiana farmers use a mounted propane gun that sounds just like a shotgun. Look into that maybe?😊
JT will you double crop beans in next year after the wheat. Also, do you use fertilizer to incorporate with wheat? In the geese the best way to get rid of them is to Open season!!!!😅😅
Unfortunately in this area a double crop wouldn’t make it. So it’s just wheat. I put 18-46-0 down before I planted the wheat, and I’ll hit it in the spring with urea
I used to write crop insurance in Ohio in the 80's. Which turned into adjusting for Buckeye Union Continental. Then later NAU. Been a long time...good luck.
here in Oregon, they use like a white pillow case on a short stick. Stick about 3 to 5 of em around and through the field. The wind makes thepillow case flap and move around. The geese flying by thinks it looks like a swan which is their mortal enemy, and they don't land
Yea been a busy fall our harvesting has started 300 Acres done ,Now I am planting wheat got 200 acres done 230 to go , hydraulic coupler blew seal ,always something on the farm
Back when I used to grow wheat, I once ran out of certified wheat seed and ended up going to an elevator in Kansas and getting some combine run wheat to finish off with that year. The combine run wheat that I bought yields were running in the 70-80 bushels per acre, while the certified wheat was 30-45. I started holding wheat back and just planting what I grew. I miss growing it. I used to have a IH drill like yours. I think mine was a 7-21 double disc. It took up quite a bit of space roading it down the 2 lane highways between my fields. It was a pretty good drill. Mine never had fertilizer in it and the inside panels between the fertilizer and seed were reversed making for a larger seed box. I may be wrong with my memory, but I think it held close to a pallet of seed. 40 bags. I used both fold up tandem disc and a 34’ spring tooth harrow prior to planting and it would leave the fields pretty dang smooth for even planting depth.
went to work for a farmer in 1980 that had 3 massys . 1100, 1130, and 1135 . we cluch the 1100 every year , single cluch plate. 1130 a small pice of brass in top of tran. called pump primer . you need a merow to see it . 1135 front spindle . he traded the 1130 for a 2745 . we broke the front end off in front of the steer axle. 1,000 weight under the nose tank rack and 300 gal. of water, bolted to the steering houseing. pullin an 8 row doall. on doules
Geese: as a goose hunter open your property to paid hunts, $50-$100 per gun per day. it helps pay for crop damage. I do this for deer season on my farm.
Excellent JT :) what company brand of Wheat in bags loaded up the Seed Drill with and why asked so new companies out in Corn and Ferlitzer to been ! My late elders had used Agrico , Ponnier, Pride and Sur Grain companies back years ago and lots them change names since then too! But still beautiful crops since then and so pretty too! Also I like how your crops grew up too this year and hope more years to! Has Fluffy the Supervisor Cat 🐈 ride in combine, tractors, and trucks or anything else JT :) I know our farm 2 dogs 🐕 did and one cat 🐈 to it funny!
Game department here started issuing eagle decoys instead of propane bangers for cobra chicken deterrence on crops. Gotta shift them around every couple of days though or they get wise. Brother in law used them fairly effectively on a half section of newly sprouted alfalfa last year.
Little surprised (from our practice) to see you drilling with such deep ruts in the field. Has this been typical for you? We have an 1100, 1135, JD 4630 and a Ford 2000 for our 388 acres. We run the cultivator or harrigator over the field to level it off before we run the drill...we have heavy clay soil up here. The Ford 2000 is used mainly for bush hog and light levelling duty. Last few years we've used wheat seeds from the combining to treat and plant...purchase bean seeds... like your videos since we have similar, older equipment.
If it was any crop but wheat I would have smoothed it out , but the wheat will basically take regardless and the packer wheels on the drill smooth the ruts out enough for my satisfaction lol
Planted 500 acres one spring with an international drill like that one. Many, many fills with a bucket out of a pickup box. Went to a 40 ft set of John Deere 9350 drills the next spring with a wagon and drill fill. Then I started getting fatter. 🤣👍🍻
When it comes time to plant again ,instead of running back and forth with the tractor load the seed on that green Chevy truck with the flat bed. Take it to the field and load off the truck. Gives you an excuse to give ole green something to do!!!
Little BTO. Sounds like a rapper's name. 🤣 Noticed the hitch on the back of the drill. Maybe pickup a cheap hay wagon to load seed onto and not have to come back to the yard as often.
You gotta great setup with the planter and the tractor. When we were planning wheet we used the 606. You have plenty of tractor for the job, JT. Glad you got wheat planning done and now finish the beans. And put some money in the bank. Great video, JT.
Awesome videos, love you're channel. This is hands down one of my favorite farm channels. No brand new self driving tractors. All old school, i love my Massey tractors. I've got a 65 high crop in the shed, first Massey i ever had and absolutely love it. Hopefully big bad 1150 one of these days
As for getting rid of geese, a scarcrow does help but guys up here use geese cannons, they fire off a loud noise every half an hour or so and it kinda keeps them away. Mostly you just deal with the geese. I prefer them over a big heard of antelope, geese do way less damage
I really enjoy your common sense approach to farming and saving all of this equipment. I have heard you say more than once that you wished certain pieces had a/c. I would love to see you install an aftermarket a/c on one (or all) of those beautiful old Masseys. Not sure if a compressor driven unit or a 12 volt unit would be best. Love to know what you think.
Boy I do like your all around the farm videos they are a great excuse to take a break from the honeydo list & have a cold drink & watch some utube Keep up the good hard work
No, it’s smart man. I didn’t wanna work real hard, but it took to forklift and pulled up by the planner with the bags so we have to carry them so far.😊😊 do you roll that after you’re all done planting
Generally I’ll put on 125 lbs of 18-46-0 in the fall and do a soil sample in the spring and ass urea as needed or hit my bushel goal. I also have it sprayed in the spring with huskee and possibly a fungicide if I feel it necessary. Has good luck with that combo
Hey ole buddy, remember this, paid for iron is better than paying for iron. Any day. I've got a POS 670 combine I'll swap you even up for the 4420. You know what the POS stands for. Lol
No, it’s smart man. I didn’t wanna work real hard, but it took to forklift and pulled up by the planner with the bags so we have to carry them so far.😊😊
Now if you"d have put a twelve pack in the tractor before ya started, you could have got it all planted on Friday evening. Happy farmers plant happy crops.
Those geese come down to Florida and hang around on the golf courses during the winter. They say thank you in a strange way...My brother suggests a 9 iron😁
Hey JT. When I was a kid livin on a farm. The farmer had these coned shape automatic bird scarers. They worked off butane gas I think. Loud as hell to scare the birds off the fields.
was wandering downtown Newcastle yesterday harvest festival & they had a MF 8700 S sittin down there ... 400 ponies thats a pretty impressive row crop tractor
Hey JT, I keep meaning to tell you. I saw a pretty good condition Massey 850 with a corn and a grain header for sale in my neck of the woods in Nw Ohio if you're interested. I didn't stop to check the price but if this sounds like something you're interested I can stop by next time I drive by it and send some pics. It's near bono.
Great video JT. Love the sound of that Massey. Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks 👍

Wow! That 1105 sounds the business! Gotta love those old Perkins engines!

That 1105 makes a nice wheat planting machine. You have to really appreciate that sound it makes in the field.
You got that right!
Nothing wrong with old equipment at least you know you can fix it if something goes wrong without needing a computer and electronics degree.
Right on!
Its good to see the 1105 working !!👍👍👍 Always a joy to watch !!
Thanks!
Another awesome video with your awesome equipment! Thanks buddy.
My pleasure!!
I loved combining corn. My favorite crop when I was involved in farming.
Right!
Good luck with the wheat crop.
Thank you!
I can't believe how that 1105 tractor door shuts when it was so badly bent when you got it... amazing job Studley...
Thanks!
Good to have a beautiful red tractor for every single implement.... Might need to get another implement next year to justify two or three more tractors 😃
That's the plan! 😉
Your t shirt is a classic ❤

Equipment from a time when you had to know how to farm. Instead of how to read a computer, and ask Google what a plow is. Hats off to you JT.

Congrats JT, on getting ur Planting Wheat done. Fluffy doing her job getting rats..
She keeps the place pretty clean!
That old Perkins sounds great
Thanks!
Good Morning J T, America needs more guys like you, out there farming. OK I'm going to go grill lunch now. Keep on Farming. 😊
Right on!
Great video JT . Nice to see older equipment getting the job done . Makes for low overhead . 👍
You got that right!
When it comes time to plant again ,instead of running back and forth with the tractor load the seed on that green Chevy truck with the flat bed. Take it to the field and load off the truck. Gives you an excuse to give ole green something to do!!!
Right on!
Tractors ,,looking good ,,I love Masseys ,,Will u be painting ur combines ??
I probably won’t paint the combines, the 4420 is pretty clean as it is and I did a buff job on the 66 that will be seen on Sundays video
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one 17,000 things out of the barn
Ha! Standing room only in the barn lol
I planted winter wheat last week
Nice job JT can't beat the older equipment 👍👍
Right on! Always gets the job done!
Love the shirt. I remember getting one in 1st grade. Good memory!
Right on!
Little BTO. Sounds like a rapper's name. 🤣 Noticed the hitch on the back of the drill. Maybe pickup a cheap hay wagon to load seed onto and not have to come back to the yard as often.
Definitely could. On the plus side, the field is only 1/2 mile away so that helps!
@@jtsbarnngrill6873 Being that close to home also gives you the opportunity to grab an adult beverage.
Now you’re thinking 😉
You gotta great setup with the planter and the tractor. When we were planning wheet we used the 606. You have plenty of tractor for the job, JT. Glad you got wheat planning done and now finish the beans. And put some money in the bank. Great video, JT.

Awesome videos, love you're channel. This is hands down one of my favorite farm channels. No brand new self driving tractors. All old school, i love my Massey tractors. I've got a 65 high crop in the shed, first Massey i ever had and absolutely love it. Hopefully big bad 1150 one of these days
Right on! Hopefully I’ll be getting mine out soon!
If you got that flatbed truck running, you could put the bags on that and refill the grain drill at the field.
Right on, it is running still, but has 0 brakes lol
Great job JT, I get those looks all the time , little do they know I have to work a job, to farm with old stuff 😂😂, great video
Bingo! 😆😆
Nice video JT
Thanks!
That 4420 is an absolute gem!
Thanks!
As for getting rid of geese, a scarcrow does help but guys up here use geese cannons, they fire off a loud noise every half an hour or so and it kinda keeps them away. Mostly you just deal with the geese. I prefer them over a big heard of antelope, geese do way less damage
I’ve heard the goose cannon works good
Love the sound of the 1105 coming across the field, it sounds pretty mean.
Right! Has a nice little bark 😉
I appreciate that! I’ve looked into it a little, but I need to study it more
Boy I do like your all around the farm videos they are a great excuse to take a break from the honeydo list & have a cold drink & watch some utube
Keep up the good hard work
Thanks! I appreciate that!
The old 1105 sounds good. Nice you got the job done. Wheat will be a bumper crop next year. Great video as always, keep up the good work and be safe.
Thanks 👍
8:44 all the squeaks sound like the noises on the Enterprise bridge!
It is a squeaky unit lol
Plowed, planted, and paid for. Sounds like a t-shirt logo to me.
I like that!!
Very good Video 👍
Thank you 👍
Thank You for another great video. Watching what you do today, reminds me of what I did in the early 80's on pops farm. Stay young my friend.
Thank you!
No, it’s smart man. I didn’t wanna work real hard, but it took to forklift and pulled up by the planner with the bags so we have to carry them so far.😊😊 do you roll that after you’re all done planting
JT, what do you do as fertilizer and spraying the wheat? How much and when? As usual, great job and really enjoy the ride along.
Generally I’ll put on 125 lbs of 18-46-0 in the fall and do a soil sample in the spring and ass urea as needed or hit my bushel goal. I also have it sprayed in the spring with huskee and possibly a fungicide if I feel it necessary. Has good luck with that combo

Another brilliant video ,it's the 6th October, in Ireland and it has rained here all day
Send a little splash this way lol
Thanks for posting JT
You bet!

Great video J.T!
Keep on going.
Looks good.👍👍

Hey JT. When I was a kid livin on a farm. The farmer had these coned shape automatic bird scarers. They worked off butane gas I think. Loud as hell to scare the birds off the fields.
Right on!
Nice sound. We pulled the drill with the C. Neighbor used a 66 oliver.
Right on, yeah, the 1105 is definitely overkill, but keeps me out of the bugs and dust 😉
You can never say we didn’t give you anything🇨🇦 hey JT, did you ever look at buying one of those propane blasters and put it in the field?
I have as of today lol. Had a couple mention that, might have to look into it
I was just wondering if you could carry bag's on top of the planter, so you could re load in the field
I’ve tried that in the past, the don’t like to stay put unfortunately
Brilliant video, I like your style of farming, It works well for you. Keep the good videos coming.
Thanks, will do!
Nice
Thanks!
That looks like a 20 hole drill. We pulled a 20 hole John Deere drill with a 39 horse John Deere tractor for years.
Close. It’s a 21 hole. Probably could pull it with a farmall c lol
Use noise cannons, propane powered ones. Sounds like a cannon going off.
Right on
was wandering downtown Newcastle yesterday harvest festival & they had a MF 8700 S sittin down there ... 400 ponies thats a pretty impressive row crop tractor
Very cool!
Right on! Problem I would have is getting it trucked up here reasonably
Yeah I wasn't sure where you were based at. It's definitely one of the cleanest 850's I've ever seen. Ah well.
Cool video JT
Thanks!
