I’m from Los Angeles, CA. I heard about Mariza about 6 or 7 years ago. When I first saw Concerto em Lisboa in its entirety I got teary eyed. Everything about that was amazing. Luis Guerreiro on Guitarra Portuguesa, Mariza’s powerful voice and her emotion. Great intro to Fado as that concert has a lot of fado classics. It inspired me to get a guitarra portuguesa of my own. And now I’m on my own musical journey even at the age of 32. Beijinhos!
Beautiful from Ana Moura! Pure talent! The instrument is the Portuguese guitar. Tens os olhos de Deus You Have the Eyes of God You have the eyes of God And your lips in mine Are two living petals, And the hugs you give Are rips of light and peace In a sky of wounded wings. And I need more, I need more. From your eyes of God, In a perpetual goodbye Blue of sun and tears, You say: "Stay with me You're my safe haven, And the goodbye is a blade!" I no longer need anything more, I don't need anything more. Embark in me For the time is short There comes the night Come closer, Tie like this The wind to the body Embark in me For the time is short, Embark in me. You have the eyes of God, And each with their own See the distance they want, And when you touch me inside From you I collect the breath That each kiss brings And I need more, I need more. In your eyes of God Live stars and skies, Pink and carmine rockets, Wheels in the village party In the vein, bells throb Singing in the distance "Yes!" I don't need anything more, I don't need anything more. Embark in me, For the time is short, There comes the night Come closer, Tie like this The wind to the body, Embark in me For the time is short. Embark in me.
The same kind of feelings why Prince just invited her to play live with him in several concerts and recorded in Minneapolis what only God knows...besides Ana Moura
Longing is one of the dimensions of the more complex feeling the Portuguese call SAUDADE. That is always one of the must must-haves of a FADO song: for a love, for a place, for a time, for s felling, for someone… ❤️
The instrument name is Portuguese Guitar. If you want to listen to something more high energy and inspired on traditional Portuguese music like fado and Lisbon taverna lifestyle you will love Oquestrada - Oxalá te veja.

Your reactions are so great! I keep coming back. You're lovely. I love this Ana Moura's performance. One of my favourite fados. The Portuguese guitar really really touches the soul in such a magical way. Please, whenever you feel like listening to fado again, listen to Mariza's "Cavaleiro Monge". I promise you won't regret it. It was a memorable concert. Magical atmosphere. There's a great performance on UA-cam, "Live In London 2004". Keep up the great videos, Mike and Ginger. You're amazing. Beautiful from Ana Moura! Pure talent!
The instrument is the Portuguese guitar.
Tens os olhos de Deus
You Have the Eyes of God
You have the eyes of God
And your lips in mine
Are two living petals,
And the hugs you give
Are rips of light and peace
In a sky of wounded wings.
And I need more,
I need more.
From your eyes of God,
In a perpetual goodbye
Blue of sun and tears,
You say: "Stay with me
You're my safe haven,
And the goodbye is a blade!"
I no longer need anything more,
I don't need anything more.
Embark in me
For the time is short
There comes the night
Come closer,
Tie like this
The wind to the body
Embark in me
For the time is short,
Embark in me.
You have the eyes of God,
And each with their own
See the distance they want,
And when you touch me inside
From you I collect the breath
That each kiss brings
And I need more,
I need more.
In your eyes of God
Live stars and skies,
Pink and carmine rockets,
Wheels in the village party
In the vein, bells throb
Singing in the distance "Yes!"
I don't need anything more,
I don't need anything more.
Embark in me,
For the time is short,
There comes the night
Come closer,
Tie like this
The wind to the body,
Embark in me
For the time is short.
Embark in me.

that hopeful longing is saudade
There are different possible translations ; mine would be : 'Take place on me' for 'Embarca em mim'. The song's name is "You've got God's eyes".
why not just a simple "join me"
Obrigado
A new suggestion from Ana Moura, more joyful: Ana Moura - Desfado (Litos Diaz & Nuno K Remix)
Guitarra Portuguesa is the queen of FADO
Christina Branco is, imo, also a great fado singer.
Thank you. You welcome. = Obrigado. De nada.
Now for "Desfado" (an invented word which means "unfado", the opposite of fado, something like that):
Quer o destino que eu não creia no destino
E o meu fado é nem ter fado nenhum
Cantá-lo bem sem sequer o ter sentido
Senti-lo como ninguém, mas não ter sentido algum
Ai que tristeza, esta minha alegria
Ai que alegria, esta tão grande tristeza
Esperar que um dia eu não espere mais um dia
Por aquele que nunca vem e que aqui esteve presente
Ai que saudade
Que eu tenho de ter saudade
Saudades de ter alguém
Que aqui está e não existe
Sentir-me triste
Só por me sentir tão bem
E alegre sentir-me bem
This is very tricky, but I think you can get the idea. Basically, fado (fate, destiny) is about someone or something you lost or miss or long. So, it's generally sad, because you are in pain for something. In this case, the lyrics go back and forth between fado (sadness) and desfado (unfado, unsadness, joy): the joy of having sadness, the sadness of having joy.
Fate (destiny) wants that I don't believe in fate
and my fate (fado, destiny) is not having any fate at all
Sing it well without even having felt it
Feel it like no one, but having no sense at all
Oh what sadness this joy of mine
Oh what joy this so great sadness
Hope that one day i don't wait another day
for the one who never comes and who was present here
Oh I long for feeling longing (that's saudade, longing, missing)
I miss having someone
that is here and doesn't exist
To feel sad
just for feeling so good
and feel good for being happy
just because I'm so sad
Oh if I could not sing
and regret not having any more regrets
maybe I could hear in the silence that I made
a voice that was mine singing someone inside
Oh what a disgrace this luck that assists me
Oh how lucky I am for living so disgraceful
in the uncertainty that nothing more certain exists
beyond the great uncertainty of not being sure of anything
So so well written...
