  • We booked a room for (3 people) at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel August 18-21, 2024. We stayed in room 1411, the Ocean View 2 Queen W/ Balcony. This walkthrough will show you what the room has to offer so you know what to expect when you book. The hotel offered excellent service, food and location.
The Service from the jump was excellent.
The first encounter you have is with the Valet service, which was the only option for parking on site ($55/Night). The valets were pleasant, attentive and considerate when it came to treating the customers with Aloha. Everyone we dealt with was super cordial and humble. Be sure to tip the valets, it's very rude not to. Tips are a big part of their livelihood.
The check-in process was easy and stress free. We arrived a few hours early with the expectation of having to check our bags at the bell desk, but were surprised to find out our room was ready early. The woman at the front desk (her name escapes me) was friendly and fast. After the check-in process was done, she walked us over to the cold case at the end of the check-in counter to pick out a "Welcome Drink". It was our first tough decision of the trip. Lilikoi Passion was my pick.
The elevators can be a bit of a wait. Be patient, they too are on 'Island Time'.
The room we stayed in was very clean, aside from a little dust on the popcorn ceiling. The room was a pretty good size for the three of us and our eight pieces of luggage. The beds were fairly comfortable but felt a bit smaller than a queen to me. The bathroom was very clean and was stocked with QKH proprietary wash products. The T.V. had something I had never seen before. Each T.V. was equipped with Google Chromecast that was solely room specific. This allowed you to stream any video service app to your binge-watching desire.
The balcony had to wrought iron chairs with matching table for sipping your coffee, liquor or beer. Many people chose to hang clothes on them to dry. Our views from the balcony were beyond most comparable hotels in the Waikiki area. The location was excellent, quiet and peaceful. Most mornings I sat out on the balcony and enjoyed the breeze with my coffee in hand. Every morning the was a competition between local roosters, to see who could crow the loudest. I also enjoyed the sounds of the tropical birds on display at the Honolulu Zoo directly across the street. Honestly all that took a backseat to the sounds of the waves hitting the shore, creating a natural white-noise machine with its repetitious lapping.
The Deck restaurant was AWESOME! Most of the time, hotel restaurants are subpar to say the least. This rare gem served the tastiest dishes, even if they mixed up or got the order wrong a few times. I was happy to eat the wrong thing, as it all tasted great. Prices are a little on the high side, but it is Waikiki, and it is a hotel restaurant (Avg. plate was $20 -$25). 90% of the restaurant staff we encountered were super pleasant and accommodating. Tip the good restaurant staff well please, they work hard and depend on it.
We will be back to stay again, as this was one of our first and favorite Waikiki hotel stays. We enjoyed almost every aspect of this stay and have little to no bad comments. Most of the issues are due to the confines of space on the Island.
