Always interesting to see what people choose to take 👍🏽Would be good to also see what jackets, gloves and boots you took. People don't think about the financial cost of going on Alone. I know for myself planning to apply for Alone Australia next year the first thing I looked at is how am I going to not only pay for everything I'd want to take, but also the money for morgage repayments on our house while I'm gone if I get selected. Luckily so far Lowa boots has come to the party and is sending me a pair of Ranger III GTX hiking boots, that will save me the $500Aust of having to buy these.

Yeah I could do another one with my jackets and boots. I was trying to keep it around the 10 minute length so that would make this video too long. Good luck getting on Alone Australia!

Cool! Great kit!! Love the knitted sock and the Iceland sweater! Scree pants?, those look rugged. Nice wool pants, where did you get those? That is probably close to $1,000 in clothing? It doesn’t look like a lot though. But again, layering!

The wool pants place is in the description. Wool is expensive! Good thing there was some wool at the sale at frostbite! Keep in mind I also had snow pants and a parka to fit over all the layers.

if you stuff the backpack and the 3 coveralls with dry debris, sew and tape the seams, each one of those pontoons will float a big man. So you only need 8 small poles to make a frame for this pontoon outrigger raft and it wont matter if the logs float or not. Lash a pontoon to each of the 4 corners of the outriggers. Have a couple of 10 ft long keel logs, a couple of cross =braces and a couple of diagonal braces. Put a couple of logs across the keep logs to keep your feet out of the water and to lash the camera case to. Sit on the camera case.. Make a paddle out of the shovel, via a longer handle, made on site. Lanyard the handle to the raft, so that you can't lose it to the lake. This raft weighs about 80 lbs and you can make it in one day. You can do all the work by firelight and then carry the raft to the lake shore. When you tie up the raft for the night, remove the pontoons and secure them vs wind storms, fire and flooding. You dont have to cross the Bering Straits with it. In fact, you should not risk being in water that's over your head. Once you need the coveralls as clothing, it'll be too cold to risk being out on the raft, or the lake will be frozen-over anyway.

You only need 1/2 of the heavy-duty, reflective 12x12 ft tarp to make your pole-tent. So you have lots of canvas left for making the 3 pairs of pants you'll need, cause you used the coveralls as pontoons. You get to take 2 sets of longjohns,, so you can put dry grasses and /or mosses between each of these 5 layers of clothing. Youll be able to use the reflective tyvek bivy as clothing,, too. The interior of your tent should be stuffed with either dry debris or evergreen boughs and you should be up on a raised pole-bed. So you'll be fine without the sleeping bag or the coveralls for the first 2 months. (ie, down to 20F) This is with no seeping bag and no heat-source inside of your 8ft long, 3.5x3.5 ft, triangular cross-section pole-tent.
About day day 30, (ie, first freeze) youll need to take down the producers tarp from the pole frame of your work-pavilion, Create an external pole-frame for your tent, and cover it with a 6" thick layer of dry debris. Cover this debris layer with the tarp.. This is necessary until it's too cold for rain to be a threat and warm enough for sleeping with no heat-source. at 20F degrees, if you have your 8 layers of clothing, the tyvek bivy, and the 7 layers of debris between the clothing layers.
About day 60, you'l need to take the producer's 10x 16 ft tarp from the outside of your shelter. Fold this tarp in half, creating a 10x8 ft "bag". Stuff this bag with a 6" thick layer of dry debris. Fold this back in half, creating a 5x8 ft bag and secure the edges. Put the revlective tyvek bivy inside of this "debris bag" when you want to sleep. Remove enough of the debris-insulation inside of the tent to let you put this debris-bag on your raised pole-bed. Replace as much of the debris inside of the tent as possible. This will suffice to 0F without a heat source and you'l never see 0F. cause you'll be gone before the second week in December.

the producers pretty much tell you what you can have and not have. I'd go with Carhart longjohns and have one set of merion wool longjohns and one set being polypropylene. everything else being made of wool, if at all feasibly done.

google for a monthly temp chart, folks. They launch in mid Sept, at 50F degrees and it's not even going to freeze at night for a month. For another month, it's going to thaw out in the afternoons. Last season lasted only 64 days. So they are not at all likely to have to handle real cold for more than a month, at most. As a teenager, I've worked hogs and cattle at -20F, with MUCH less clothing than these folks get to take. If they'd just learn to make a lot of netting out of a cotton rope hammock and make a pontoon outrigger raft in one day, and hole up in their shelter, they could hold their weight loss to half a lb per day, instead of 1.3 lbs per day. It's much better to lose 40 lbs in 80 days than to lose over 100 lbs, eh? they are not going to medically pull a 6 ft tall man who still weighs 150 lbs, cause there's lots of 6 ft tall marathoners who weigh only 140 lbs. So you dont have to be a total lardass to win this contest. You just have to know what to take and do. You can win it at 190 lbs and do so without harvesting a big animal. If you use 100 lbs of fish and a stake and log bait box to bring a fat for hibernation bear within 10m of your tree blind, you can regain the 15 lbs you've lost getting set up to do that.
