@@TruckDriverHayley It did! Thanks! I work through an agency and I am still at the people I went to on the first day so I must be doing something right. We have had a few 'adventures' along the way (hump backed bridge mini-nightmare😉) but I think of you every day - 'put your thumb over your face......' . Thanks Hayley!
This is my favourite tachograph. If you flick down a couple more it will show you your WTD in the hammer symbol, It will have a counter on the left and one on the right. When you start they will show the same time and as soon as you have a 15 min it will rest the one on the left and the one on the right will carry on. The counter that you've been showing with the driving symbol will also tell you when you need the break for your WTD. It will show 4:30 and 45, once the 6 hours get closer than the driving time will run out I.E you're at 5hrs and 30min work and you have 2hrs drive time left it will revert to WTD showing 0:30 and 15 break. Once you take your 15 break it will revert back to 2:00 and show 30 break. Also try out the 1 minute rule that many don't know about. I once had my 45 minute break in slow traffic on parliament street in london using the 1 minute rule. Basically you can move the lorry while on break or POA and click back to break or POA as long as you done it under 1 minute.
Brilliant, been bus driving years no need for Tacho, so new tacho came today and starting truck driving and knew nothing of Tacho machine, used to be a disk years ago. Top girl cheers
Hi Hayley. Im a newly passed HGV Class 2 driver and have been struggling to get my head around the use of the tachgraph machine. Ive just watched this video and it has proved more helpful than any other explanation I have recieved. Ive written down what you said in a way I understand, and hopefully, I shouldnt have any issues. Thank you
Thanx again, it will bring me through my first day, which will come soon. Before i log out, I have had so much benefit from the work of Dr. Bates, that I hate to see you with visual crutches, and so am leaving you with a possibility of googling his name. Cheers 🚛
thank you for this. i passed my cat c not long ago and will hopefully be starting work in the next week or two, and the tachograph card, for some reason is the one thing they never teach you about, yet one of the most important things to know how to use. i found your channel from the trucknet forums and you've definitely earnt a sub from me :)
Thanks for uploading this video, I am returning to HGV driving after 30 years chauffeuring, i'd been trying to remember from CPC training how to change activity from driving to rest etc, your video was very helpful
Just completed my first week back in the driving seat, after a 14 year break - the last tacho i used was the paper type! The truck I’m in has an Iveco unit., which seems to not be covered on youtube 😂 - The company didn’t give me much instruction on it either (pretty much none!) it took me a couple of days to realise it was reverting to rest at every stop, and that I needed to set it to other work every time I stopped 😳 - expected it to be the other way round and switch itself to other work. So easy to forget - especially when you have to jump out / jump back in on a stop - to move the truck a little for positioning..
First day tomorrow, only driving a 7.50 ton but all the same I`m messing myself. Never used a Digi tacho before or for that matter any tacho. Thank you for the heads up it has given me some insight into the machine. Just done a CPC 5 day course and all they talked about was drivers' hours and not a thing on how to use the machine. One more thing unlike most of you out there my company is only paying me minimum wage. Not a happy bunny
Nice video. After watching it, you kinda made me realise how simple it can be. Also, its simple for drivers who work, standard day. Few drops here and there locally. Working through business hours. Similar to office hours, you work some hours, then break, a few more, maybe another break, then 1 or 2hrs more then home time. I think it becomes more complicated when driving international etc.
Thanks Hayley Just completed my first week solo on tippers Already finding that they stick more work on you than you can legally do. If no one helps explain the rules then you can get caught out easily - don’t rely on employer or anyone else. Keep your eye on it and tell them if you’re running out of hours.
Thanks Hayley, I've asked my driving instructor to run me through this and he promised to do it once my card arrives, should be here next week hopefully, but good to get a bit of a heads up from yourself first so I'll know roughly what he's on about when the time comes
Thanks Hayley. Very helpful. Just passed my Class 1 and start first job(agency), includes a client assessment, in a few days. This is the stuff that nobody shows you so once again thanks so much.
You're welcome. There is another and more up-to-date video that I made about the tachograph. I show you about manual entries and the other style of tacho I've come across. It's called vlog #52 if you're still interested. Good luck with your first job :)
Good vlog Hayley. When you put your card in and it said rest till now,My firm like manual entry so we press no then edit time of finish of last day.then manual enter your start time. ie your start time was 6am so it would show 3min of work but as you put yes it showed you starting at 0603. Keep up the good work.
Hayley your a star ⭐️ Hopefully you'll get better and shown some more on how to use a digital tachograph 😄 As you was a teacher in your previous job you come across very well 👍🏻 Well done and love what your doing Cheers Stevie 😘
i would love a tutorial from you covering satnav operations done in your very agreeable.patient style without any of the flim flam, flying finger approach as seen from many other bloggers these days ? transitioning from my 10 yoa snooper nav to a Tom Tom pro has been a harsher than necessary endeavour but for the kindness of other truckers who've helped me considerably of late as a 'returnee' driver awol for 5 years.Techno ability just isn't a thing for many of us old schoolers and you Hayley hit it right more than most with your style of coaching for sure.
That makes 2 of us ! I know very little about digital tachograph, we have just been told we have to do manual entries for clocking on and off start times . But I've had no training.
Hi I'm new to your vlogs (thanks to Jenko) I've really enjoyed catching up on your earlier blogs and following your journey. Please keep the vlogs coming.
Hi Mark, welcome to my channel. I'm glad you enjoyed the vids. When I look back at the old ones I think they're a bit cringey, lol. Thanks for your support! :)
Hey Hayley! Love your videos, I was driving a 26t for the first time today and we had this tacho machine even my trainer did not know how to use it lol!
Another great video Hayley! As others have said, its not something taught to pass your test! Just passed my class 1 yesterday😎. Cant wait to get my foot in the door and driving.
I would say well done for making a video. However the manual entry should include a little bit of time for when you clocked on and walked to your vehicle in the morning or night whenever you started. This time will be a few minutes before you put your card in. I am looking at this because I'm well versed in manual entries and just came across a tacho setup like this one for the first time during an interview today.... and maybe made an error in not doing enough to ask about this at the time but I was a little distracted with it being assessed and taking to the assessor as I was working. Excuses 😂😂 printout tomorrow to keep a 28 days record 😂😂😂
Just picked up on your channel. Good vid' . I'm just about to start my Class 2 training so the video has given me some good insight to the role and day - subbed
Hi, you’re supposed to do a manual entry every morning because your last shift doesn’t end until you clock out. What that means is, when you remove your card, you’re still composing other work for example, uploading your tacho card, handing keys in, checking for anything until you clock out. So the following day you need to do a manual entry to specify the other work carried out until you clocked out and left the premises. 🤔
You are correct but it didn't apply to me on that job. When I took my card out I took the keys home with me and my card was read at the end of every week. I also didn't need to clock out - I filled in all of my paperwork including my time sheet before I took the card out. There was no other work for me after I removed my card, I got in my car and drove home.
A super useful video, thanks! It helps that you explained it from a driver's perspective and didn't over complicate it. I'm moving from buses to trucks after 26 years of domestic hours rules, and only have 1 week analogue tacho experience. The digital seems even easier! One question: does the tacho immediately go to Drive as you start moving and back to Rest when you stop for a few minutes? On analogue we had to switch modes manually.
Great easy clip to understand Hayley, Looks like the last driver has not switched the pictogram onto bed/rest before there card was taken out for there end of shift,!!
No, you don't have to do that with this model of tachograph as when you re-enter the card you can set the time you took the card out as "end of shift" 😊
@@TruckDriverHayley ahh I see thank you. I’m starting agency driving next weekend but I’ve never used my tacho before, do I still need to input a manual entry ??
@@erinmingo5919 When you enter the card it will always ask you what you did in the time since you last removed it, mine comes up as 'Rest until now? Yes/No' others can say 'Manual entry? Yes/No'. If you say no, it will count the time as rest. If you say yes, you can enter what you did. You always need to input the time of other work you may have done. For example, you start work at 6:00 but don't put the card in until 6:30... You would need a manual entry to say what you did between 6:00 and 6:30, in this example it could be other work. I hope that helps.
You should always start with a manual entry when you first put your card in, as there is no way you would have been on rest immediately from the moment you last removed card.
I made a mess of my first 3 days driving .. violations galore Hoping this week I have a better handle on it I got lost a lot on my first day and ended up going over my hours because there was no way I was sleeping in the truck for 9/11 hours
