Finally someone who explained this system. Everyone else was just not showing shit. Ty ma'am
Budget with cash envelopes is so simple but yet SO EFFECTIVE. It's such a shame people don't budget this way because if you do, you actually have real control over your money. You are in control of your money instead of your money controlling you.
@9 Lives And Counting, most Americans will never budget and most Americans will always be broke. Sad but true.
My Grandmother was doing this 85 years ago in the Great Depression
Mine too. My Dad was 1 of 11 kids and he told me my grandma had one wallet with several compartments with designated cash for different things. They were British. Two wars and a depression makes you very frugal.
HH James Good point. I have a relative who was financially successful and he always said, “Cash is king!”. Admittedly he is old
School but he hates credit cards and is anti social but u know what, sometimes I think that’s the only way in our highly socialised consumer world! It’s too difficult to thrive unless you’re a bit odd!
Good video. Cash envelopes has transformed my finances. Honestly. I love it!
You did this just for me didn’t you? Thank you Kelly. I’ll be watching it again tonight with Steve.
This was sooo easy to understand! Thanks for breaking it down!
The cash envelope wallet does take time to get into using. But you are right about using cash rather than plastic. I've been on the cash wallet for 2 years. I have no plastic, no debt either. Cash makes you save more. For me the larger the bill I was giving out the more I felt broke. I enjoy your videos. You do a awesome job..😀
I'm loving my wallet like yours! Just finished stuffing it with cash! Love your videos!
Love your simple system! Something I actually have time to do! ❤️❤️❤️
I am very impressed with your cash envelope. Our money is UK Pounds. I have used US dollars on my travels. Years ago when I first heard about Dave Ramsey I wished to get a cash envelope purse.
Smart system it also makes sense how you could just budget it out then go to the bank and withdrawal the money when it’s time to spend it
I’ve been using cash for the past couple of months and it’s soooo true that I’m much less likely to spend my physical cash than I am to swipe my card. I’m considering starting the envelope method! Right now I just have all of my cash hoarded in one envelope😂
Thanks - just ordered wallet on your link! blessings for doing this video.... must admit, had to think how I was going to justify the expense decided to do extra work on my side hustle job.
Yay!! That's so awesome that you did the extra work on your side hustle!!!
I LOVE my Savvy Cents Wallet! I do the same as you, breaking it down every two weeks. It really does help keep me on track. I have had my teal wallet for close to three years. It’s still in great shape but I can’t wait to get a new one!
Great video-thanks for sharing!
Watching this in january 2024. Boy, cash stuffing has evolved so much!
Wristlet wallets are amazing for when you just need something simple for on the go!
YES! I often just take my wallet and keys, so handy and compact! :)
Me too this system really works for me i can manage in and out on my finance.
Have all the cash for the whole month out to prevent from going to the bank every single week. Also save on gas. But own a cash lock box and lock the money in the locked cash box until the following week. This could be your "at home bank". I have 2 different cash lock boxes. Just got new keys this past week since couldn't find the original keys for them. I have not that much saved money to start using either of my cash lock boxes, yet, but got new sets of their keys to be already prepared for using them. I have the one sets in my house, and the second, spare sets somewhere else in case I lose these keys again.
New subscriber! Glad I found your channel!
Great info!
Thank you!
When you said if something is 51$ I literally said "you pay the difference with your debit" 🤦♀️ Restarting and paying attention. 😳
Great info Kelly, thank you, but "they didn't know (before) what that wallet was for, now they do! Lol. j/k, thanks again.
Great video
I want to see your grocery list. i'm single and buy minimally and spend close to 100 a week. are you only eating a meal a day?!? 4 oz meals? ramen only? same thing every day?
Here are my grocery hauls! ua-cam.com/play/PLpgLsNKlKGi7WeVvByPT1sCba1rxxHFRT.html
I just wished where we are currently living would get back to the basics... it’s been so hard to stick to our budget due to cashless transactions only 😭
Interesting concept, but I personally rather get cash back by using my credit card as a debit card. Do you use any credit card to get points or cash back?
I recommend: that You can get a lock box & keep it at home. With extra envelopes that have cash in them for when you want to spend them. This might make some people feel safer.
What do you do with your extra money at the end of the month? Do you go to the bank or you get extra for the next month? Although I don't think you will have anything left trying to live on $50 wk for food
I just bought 2 of these for my son & his GF - they are trying to save for a house
Do you not buy things like Starbucks bottled coffee? Just two bottles of coffee are $5 ea and then the Starbucks Frappe bottles are $6 for a 4 pack. A gallon of whole milk is almost $6 and that's before buying any food
Thank you for your video! A question that I have is do you actually take your paycheck and cash the whole thing? I have seen some videos where they cash the whole paycheck and then put the cash back in the account for online payments such as mortgage and such.
Hi Ralph, No I have direct deposit for our paychecks and only pull out the cash that is needed to fill the cash envelopes. :)
How do you live on $50 wk for groceries? I'm in CA and I don't think that would be possible
It's only 2 of us and I spend about $200 a week! You can't possibly only spend $100.00 for 2 weeks of groceries.
If so, please share how you do it?
I enjoyed your new upload and personal is just 50$ We'd need a little more than that! 😂😇😎
Just start using cash and I hate it because I’m tempers like I go count the money twice at the cash register handover the money I stare at her like I hope to God that’s the correct amount lol been so rushed, putting money in my pocket or purse
What do you do when you have cash left?
Where did you purchase the cash wallet. I love it and I think that it would work for me. I am on a budget fransy trying really hard to get myself organize.
Hi Johanny, here is the link to the wallet. I bought it on Amazon: amzn.to/2xnIdgF
Ok just curious say you have 100 for groceries and you use 90 do You put the $10 back in the grocery category or put the $10 somewhere else
$200/mo for groceries. I wish!
@@freedominabudget we have 6! I remember the days of a $200 grocery budget. Long time ago :)
Exactly! I WISH I could budget just $200 for the month! 😳 I can’t even imagine. If I have to keep it at twice that much then we are scraping by.
We only have my Husband and I, we still are at 400 a month. 200 a month wow that's goals right there!😃
On my third Savycents wallet and love it!
Lesa Schroyer if your on your third, does that mean they don’t last too long?
Stephanie Alexander I have never worn one out. I just like changing colors or patterns.
I like using credit cards to pay fir everything so I can get back rewards. But I stick to my budget and I definitely pay what is due on the card every month. So I get confuse about the envelope system.
Studies have shown that using credit cards make people spend more than paying with cash. That's awesome that you have found a great way that works for YOU!! That's what makes personal finance, PERSONAL!! :)
Because you are doing a confusing system of money managment to get rewards.Give it up.Leave the cash in your checking for things like rent electric water bill etc.Put grocery gas clothing gift money etc.into envelopes.Don't forget a car repair fund and money for tire replacement and oil changes.
@@freedominabudget Do you have a catagory for clothes.Do you have a divider for it in your wallet?
I hate carrying a purse. I love just taking a wallet with me. Especially one that's a wristlet. 😊
New to the cash envelope system, but I have a question. Say you don't use all the money in one of the sections, do you just roll it over to the next cash refill or does it go into savings?
I'm making a cash envelope video this Wednesday and I'll answer this question in the video! :)
I roll it over.
I keep my envelopes at home for everything from rent to car registration. I sometimes add a few dollars to one with the plan of one day having six months set aside for emergency.
Watched envelope budget for first time. Going to give it a shot.... are your amounts for 1 person??? I have family of four
These envelopes are for just one and the grocery budget is for my husband and I. :)
Hey Kelly do you have a meal planning planner or sheets that you use?
@@freedominabudget you should sell freedom in a budget 2019 meal planner/regular planner calendar i would purchase one every year
@@freedominabudget now i use a notebook and a weekly chalkboard to write meals on
I loved this video, but what do you do when you have to make big purchases like big hospital bills or dental work?
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! That I wouldn't use cash envelopes but instead a debit card or check to pay the bill.
It's a no brainer that you should only carry the money you plan on spending on any given day, not your entire monthly budget.
Cash envelopes are a good idea. But do you cash pay your bills and spend time running around place to place to pay bills?
Hi! What is the link to purchase a savvy cents wallet. I can't wait to try this
Hi Kimberly! Here is the link to the Savvy Cents Wallet, they are always changing out the styles they offer. amzn.to/2MNBtfA
@@freedominabudget Thank you so much! I can't wait to get started I'm a single mother who wants to buy the vehicle of my dreams and either build a house or buy one in a few years. Want to get the vehicle within a year. I am sure you will be able to help me with your tips and tricks.
I had a hard time adapting the cash envelope system because there were too many places that I’d make purchases that were from different categories. How do you deal with that?
What do you do with the money left over after your two weeks?
Any money left over would go to whatever financial goal you are working on. Whether it’s saving, paying off debt or investing!
I want to do the cash envelope system (not for everything like you) but I get so confused... You did make it so easy but it seems more complicated now that everything is so relied on technology driven and direct deposits... Is that why you only do 3? I hate the thought of having to go to the bank lol
I only do the three categories in cash because those are the only categories that I tend to overspend in, all other categories I use my card in. Sometimes when I don't want to go to the bank I just get cash back at the grocery store or places like Target, the cashiers are also really nice and will any denomination you want (all 10s or 3 5s ect).
@@freedominabudget then those are what I'll try... For us, Gas gets paid on one credit card (rewards) and bills are either paid auto or via electronic. Thanks!!!
I want to try it, but how do you have the money to start? in this video you are only using envelopes for 200 but when you want to do it for everything, like rent, gas, electric, etc.. how do you have all the money to divide it?? Because by the time my paycheck comes, I have to pay the full amount of rent or the full amount of electric and I cant seem to find a way to separate like for example if im paying 1000 in rent, 500 per paycheck in the envelopes. I dont know if Im explaining myself, english is not my first language.
Great questions!! I'll answer them in an upcoming Dumping Debt Friday Q&A! :)
Just a suggestion you could start as soon as you make the last month payment for example you pay december rent $500 then when you get paid again put $250 in your envelope for january if you get paid every 2 weeks or $125 if weekly by the time january is due your envelope will have $500 in it . Second option i think would be double payment then start but that seems like the last thing any of us budgeting would want to do but it could give you great momentum moving forward
@@84mira thanks, I tried doing that a couple of months ago, but it wasnt enough because I have bills due at the beginning, middle and end. Maybe Im just very confused because I just cant seem to get organized with this!!!
You dont do cash envelops for everything you spend you just do it for in store purchases not rent or electric those you write checks for.
@@chrisbaker2669 I dont live in the US, in my country we pay rent using cash in an envelope.
How would you recommend budgeting when your spouse gets paid weekly and you get paid monthly?
Great question! I would recommend doing a spending analysis (here is a detailed video on how to do it (ua-cam.com/video/VS1KdGr0PaU/v-deo.html) once you know how much money you need for each category you can pull out that amount of cash. Some people do cash envelopes weekly, bi weekly or monthly. It all depends on your preference! :)
Freedom In A Budget thank you so much! My husband and I are going to start budgeting with the cash envelopes when we get paid on the 30th! Wish us luck!
So if they steal your wallet you will sill need to get debit card replaced and potentially loose out $200 . I rather just get the debit card replaced ,. Someone stole mine and the process was easy , the thieves tried using my card but it was a no go . They didn’t get a dime
Kelly what is the name of your wallet here? I don't see the link thank you!!
What category is none food items Like shampoo dog food or say light bulbs? Thanks!
I use a pet expense category and a household category for none food items as I don't need to purchase these items every month.
Anybody know of a male envelope wallet? I only see female versions.
Hi Johnnie, to be honest I haven't seen any male versions but I do know some guys that will use the mini binder clips like these: amzn.to/36uvyFo
The last time I bought coffee the establishment was “cashless.” I hope stores don’t start doing that.
They probably do that because there would be less chance of them getting robbed. However...it could be because more and more young people are coming into the workforce, and they don't know how to make change. My aunt and I were out someplace; she paid with cash, and when the amount of change came up on the screen, it actually showed little pictures of what the individual coins looked like that she should get back!! I couldn't believe it!!
Make It Do oh my god! That is a shame! People should know the denominations of coins and cash! Wow!
@@Liv2Pntwell it does make sense now that u say it. Most parent use cards , then they get money onto there debit card not cash allowance . Just like writing is going down cause ppl type . Maybe only time they write is to sign something lol
Holy cow, you spend 75 dollars sometimes on vending machines at 6:57 ?? Do you buy all the food in it? Sounds like your rich already!
where do you put the change
oops never mind lol i see. Great idea with just paying the exact change to use your coins. I've been paying with credit cards for rewards for years and I end up spending more. I will have to try this cash system out for 2019 so I have the feeling to spend less! thank you!
It is so true that most people spend more with credit cards! Definitely give the cash envelope system a try!! I have TONS of videos on my channel of me stuffing my cash envelopes!
Dang when I go out to eat at one restaurant the total is over $50 lol
plus if you know you have $200 a month for groceries in a month and there’s still half the month left and you’re down to $80, you’re less likely to overspend that week cause you know it’s gotta last
I almost spent $75 at a vending machine...
Reeses 🤤
LOL! Reeses are my favorite too! Maybe try buying them at Walmart or Costco and bringing them to work, that would save a TON of money!!
How do i get started
Here is my playlist where I show you stuffing my cash envelopes, it is a great place to start! ua-cam.com/play/PLpgLsNKlKGi4yXbDPxQ8URcAwppsVMnKX.html
So you don’t do envelops for the bills that come out automatically only use cash envelopes for items you can buy in cash? I thought it was a process of paying all your bills. I need something to help me keep track of the money leaving the account for the bills too 😭
Have you watched my budget report card videos? I track everything in Excel, it is a game changer and so simple! :)
$100 for 2 weeks is crazy low. You must not live near Los Angeles. A typical family of 5 spends at least $1400 a month is they eat healthy. Nice video.
I've heard about LA's cost of living! Very high! My husband and I live in South Florida and we have gotten our groceries down to $200 a month for 2 people. :)
I'm a family of five and we do $400/month. Trying to stay frugal!! And yes, we do eat healthy!!
We're a family of 2 in Iowa, and we can get by with $150 a month. But my kid's a picky eater, too, so there's only about 5 different meals that we cycle through. lol
100 dollars for 2 weeks of groceries ???
!
Buy a 30 dollar wallet to save money. 😂
Dave Ramsey gives you a free “ugly” blue one 🤗
I totally see your point but at the same time if you save your "personal spending money" I don't see any problem with splurging to buy a $30 wallet. It is also a constant reminder for me to live below my means and think twice about purchases!
I’m still confused
Put money in an envelope and only put 200$ in there for a month. Take the cash and get food. Don't spend over that amount when you go shopping for food. Easy.
I lose cash. I use elctronic envelopes.
$50 eating out lol 😂 where ? McDonald’s?
Watch my budget report card videos for all of my transactions! :) ua-cam.com/video/NJKOryg4H74/v-deo.html
Why can't our schools teach stuff like this rather than wastful spending on who is a male ? Who is a female? Like Dah !
Alot of people respond wishing they would have started this earlier and saved and got more serious with these cssh
Lol your video is silly , are u just advertising your fancy Burberry purse 👜 ?? I didn’t see a single envelope ✉️
The wallet I am showing is a "cash envelope wallet", its a more modern way on the envelope system without having to use the cumbersome envelopes but rather built in dividers. The wallet isn't Burberry, its Savvy Cents for only $29! :)
Freedom In A Budget its a Burberry clone 🤭🤭🙅🏼♂️😊🤣 I’m shit at saving because it’s just not in my nature , I see money I get excited and just like a flash.. my cash gone! 🤔 I’ve tried to live on a small budget but I feel I have to always go into cash for other things like car insurance phone bill etc ..maybe I am doing something wrong or not checking my own finances properly !!!!
WHY IS EVERYONE BUYING THIS WALLET????if you lose or someone steals your wallet, than they have all your money👎
Very true, but there are ways around that with only filling your envelopes once a week to cut down the amount of cash in your envelope at a time. No one knows from the outside of your wallet if you have cash in it or not. Most people feel that if they carry cash that it WILL get stole or lost, that is simply not the case. :)
Using this system helps you to be more aware of your spending and will literally help you save hundreds if not thousands a year. If you happen to get robbed once (which is unlikely) all they get off of you is $200. The system pays for itself!
But i agree that you dont need THIS wallet. U can do this with any wallet and some small bank envelopes.
@@freedominabudgetI just stopped here to been called a THIEF ...You sure need to think before you Speak ....
I wish stuff like this was taught in high school. Budget. Set aside. Save up. It hurts when I think back at all the wasteful spending I’ve done over the years. I still do sometimes, it’s a process, but I’m doing better than before. For me, once a certain amount is allocated towards something, it is no longer available for me to spend however else I want. I am tempted to steal from my emergency fund, but I’ve done well not to touch anything. Like I said, work in progress. I feel so much better when I need to pay for something and go into the envelope assigned to it, pull out the cash and pay for it. I don’t freak out so much about where it’s coming from. I really, really wish I’d started sooner.
