3. Lift the air box cover
4. Remove the old air filter
5. Clean out the air box
6. Install the new air filter
7. Install the air box cover
8. Tighten the six phillips head screws

I have a 2016. Is it just me or is the air box a very poor design? Mine gets dirty really fast and pulls in leaves like yours did. My car will even throw a code for fuel trim to rich, I replace the filter, no more code, it’s happened three times. I’m changing the filters well within the recommended interval too.
This car belongs to a friend of mine. He had a check engine light on that stemmed from a dirty throttle body which these cars are prone to. But I’d have to agree. There was a ton of trash in that air box.

Exactly thats actually what brought me here to see if everyone's does that , I thought maybe something was loose or broken on mine. I changed it because it was throwing a code for an o2 sensor turns out it was the air filter and then a month later car was running funny at Idle and was hesitating on take off, Looked at the air filter again even more dirt and leaves this time. 🤦🏾♂️ I agree it is poorly designed

Changing the air filters does it help with gas
New and clean air filters improve gas mileage. It has been scientifically proven that by simply replacing the air filter on a car, it's possible to get better gas mileage.

Brother I have a 2012 chevy malibu and getting only 13 mpg . Will changing the air filter help with increasing mileage per gallon?
It should help. If your old filter is clean, you may need to look into what else could be causing the low MPG.
The dudes at my oil change place told me they couldn't change my air filter because there was a bolt they couldn't get out. After watching this I don't even know what they were talking about. Thanks!
