Agree, when the PS2 was announced, it was just teasing cinematics thrown around and the early months of the console saw very poor software sales, BELOW hardware as a consequence because the actual early games released weren't up to the massive hype. Meanwhile, when Nintendo showed the Gamecube's first games, it was all gameplay footage, no beating around the bush.
You're right, it's different. In the fact that it's unlike anything Naughty Dog has made before. The problem is, it's exactly like all the crap *everyone else* has been making the last 10 years, and for that reason I have no interest in it.
@@saintfayde4438 exactly. Dragon age Did not help this . Nor did concord . I think if they really write the story to be just as complex as the last of us , then it would be a win . Give it a play-style like outer worlds/ soulslike . Make the gameplay speak louder than the story and you have a better game.
@@HeyShotgun "The problem is, it's exactly like all the crap everyone else has been making the last 10 years" "Exactly, I think if they really write the story to be just as complex as [OTHER EXISTING IP] , then it would be a win . Give it a play-style like [YET ANOTHER EXISTING IP/OH , ANOTHER EXISTING IP]" I don't think this will help with making it feel "different", they just had to avoid making south park be right (put a chick in it, make her g*y, etc) and it would've been fine.
That is indeed a huge reason why I don't really care about games as much anymore. at the start of a new cycle. they introduce a new game. then they focus exclusively entirely on said game for a full decade or longer instead of giving us variety and multiple games. just 1 game to last them for 10-20 YEARS is insane.
Yeah Triple-A game development is getting to ridiculous levels of time. Hopefully it changes one day but with people always chasing better graphics and such, it's hard to be optimistic.
Gamers: we are tired of remasters and remakes we want something new! Devs: make something new Gamers: Who do you think you are??? This looks absolutely shit i hate this!
@vitXras its sad to see how hatefull everything and everyone has become in this day and age. I find my self doing the samething sometimes, just hating something you know nothing about, but hey atleast i'm trying to improve
It's not because it's new that people aren't into this game. It didn't show anything interesting. This could have been a space drama movie trailer. Gameplay was not shown. Bald chicks who talk tough and have a sparky tony stark attitude? Yawn
@@DunCcanST4R you must be a kid to think this is new. Please tell me, what exactly is new about this game? Also, I hate things because I do know about them. For example, DEI. I mean, tlou2 was literally bundled not long after release to help "sell" more copies... there are tlou fans, but not as much as people think, and they are different from, for example, the series fanbase...
Why would anyone want last of us 3? 2 was terrible for most people and on top of that naughty dog have been memed on for remaking both games literally 5 times each. Remake remaster remake of the remaster pc remaster ps5/xbox remaster lol

People just have to find stuff to be mad about, I swear. I'm a huge cynic when it comes to the Game Awards, but I think they did a good job this year. More importantly what I saw was game variety. Look at the top picks, pretty much all different genres. People are already bitching about The Witcher 4 and now this? Shit on EA and Ubisoft, they deserve it, but these guys don't.
There are reasons to be skeptical especially after the shit show that was the last of us 2 Neil Cuckmann he is focused on shoving radical left wing propaganda instead of telling a good story
@@chillociraptor5007 It has to do with the agenda they are pushing/promoting, Neil Druckmann specifically, and the implications for the gaming industry at large.
@@EcnalKcin witcher 4 doesn't though as Ciri was already an established character in the witcher franchise which tbh I look forward to playing as long as it's fun and has a good story.
They won’t do it after they sold crash to Activision and almost ruined it i bet. Also jak and daxter was supposed to come back even rumored to be the next big game a couple years ago before covid at e3 but that never happened guess they gave up
Neil elaborated on the product placements. He noted that this game is meant to be a hypothetical rendition of our future. He really wants to ground it that way. So it makes sense that we would see brands we have now here. Theres no complaints when it happens in fictional films. Marty mcflys nikes are still fire to this day.
I don't even consider the DEI and LGBTQ+ stuff as valid criticisms. Every game that showed female lead characters was being called "Woke" during the game awards. Heck even ones that had male leads. I like that more games have people of color and/or female leads now. Especially games like this where it's a new franchise and not replacing an older character. This shouldn't be looked at as a bad thing. Now granted I don't think anything should be forced either but I doubt that's what is happening here.
It is valid criticisms when people learned there is dei and ESGs companies working in the game... Which have happened recently time and time again... negating at this point is negating reality. But it is not like every game with females has been criticized as dei because of it, for example metroid is not, is about execution, and this intergalactic game is showing stuff precisely that people just don't want to see.
@@soragranda you're right Metroid is an exception. But it seems to be modern games specifically getting this kind of response. Like I'm pretty sure I remember people calling Princess Peach Showtime "Woke" just because it was a new spin off game with Peach as the main character. And what stuff? Cause aside from the product placement in the trailer and I guess the buzz cut the character has based off other comments I've seen what else was shown to call out dei other than it's a game with a female.person of color?
Dude take a look at the photo in the Naughty Dog game on the wall. Everyone but a white man represented. It's forced AF. Did you see the June Xbox showcase. It was 80% female leads and out of them 80% were black females. This isn't even 'equality' or 'balance'. It's just way out of hand.
I’m gna go against the grain here, but I’m optimistic. I’m happy to see ND try something different. Hopefully we don’t stray too far into appealing to certain agendas. But right now, I’m gna keep my expectations in check
@@Captain-America4992 You can somewhat, but things like gameplay is set in stone at this point I agree (assuming this releases 2025 if i remember right)
@@Captain-America4992 Assassin's Creed Shadows got delayed **precisely because** people were hating on it and pointing out how every single trailer they showed was lazy, poorly animated with characters "sheathing" their swords and missing the sheath completely, and locations were poorly designed with doors not properly aligned with their steps. Among many other issues. Remember the first Sonic movie? When Sonic used to look like nightmare fuel? Until everyone spoke up about it and then they changed his design to be more faithful to how he actually looks. Yes, we can, in fact, change it now.
Because it's actually the only time window to get things to change, if you wait until release it's too late to change anything. For as much trailers these days are unreliable they do still showcase some things especially aesthetics that people can still make assessments of before release.
it's funny how people complain about the female lead not being attractive enough as they are probably the same people who would complain about a female lead like Eve from Stellar Blade for being too attractive. like bro.... you either want an attractive woman or you don't. people will complain no matter what anyone does, good and bad, so developers should just do whatever makes them satisfied.
@@UndertakerU2ber Astro Bot winning game of the year indicates the market wants platformer games like Jak & Daxter, but Naughty Dog is too ignorant to see that. They want games that have TV / Movie deals. That's why they're using real actors in the game.
Did not expect Cynical to have the actual measured take. The problem is if the implementation is inauthentic. We don’t know anything about this game and people are just shitting on it. I don’t personally like the character design because using real people always takes away from the fiction for me, I’m also not a fan of the bald look. Some people can pull it off, I don’t think she is one of them. My personal opinion. It’s not gunna stop me from trying the game out. Split Fiction is also a great example. Game is about two girls and people just shout DEI, but have y’all seen the gameplay. That shit looks like a fun game to play with a friend or partner. He named the girls after his own daughters. It feels authentic, that’s the thing that matters the most.
split fiction looks like so much fun. and while the settings are “generic” the gameplay and what was presented to us looked amazing. intergalactic looked generic and mid even down to the title imo.
My biggest issue with DEI in games is how it is implemented. It was not done well in Part 2, but has been done very well in other games like Life is Strange. I will never forget my best friend telling me he loved me after playing that.
I do agree with the fact that they just shouldn't use actors and come up with their own character design, but one game I find exceptional is Alan Wake 2 as it has live action sequences and that is honestly really cool in my opinion.
Plenty of games already come up with unique character designs though, why should every game do it? It's pretty cool to see an actor playing a role in a video game. It makes games be taken far more seriously as a media in general.
@@jameslitz9819 I argue the opposite (in most cases.). Seeing an actor in a game slaps me out of immersion immersion and reminds me "this is just a game" instead of its contained universe. If the actor the character is based off of feels like an actual character in the universe i can get back immersed. If the character is written badly i wont see the character as themself but the actor. Using actors is risky for that and also uses more money in the long run probably. I wouldnt mind for stuff like say the witcher, cyberpunk, and prince of persia but stuff like resident evil, monster hunter, and GTA it would throw me off/feel wrong. I say it can cost more because if you plan on making sequals I imagine you have to pay the actor to use their likeness again vs if it was your own created character.
Generally, I don't mind actors being characters/voice actors, so long as they either: a) do it occasionally or 2) put in the same work that actual VA's do Keanu Reeves did fantastic as Silverhand in Cyberpunk. It was a character that worked very well for him. I am not AS excited for his upcoming role as Shadow in the Sonic movie, but I will reserve judgement. But I don't want Keanu showing up all over creation instead of an actual VA all over the place. I will NEVER understand why Awkwafina keeps getting VA work. She is not a good VA, at all, despite having a voice that could be honed for it. She can't be expected to stay on script so all of her characters just sounds like her. Jack Black usually does pretty good. I'm kinda over Chris Pine. I could go on.
Yeah I mean I loved following Ashley Graham's model after playing Resident Evil 4. Mostly because she was very open about being Ashley and it felt like watching the MCU actors embracing their characters
i agree. cause with uncharted it is at least more combat heavy focused. with frequent fight sections TLOU combat is way more simplified than uncharted and has very little fights.
I genuinely can't understand why the game is getting so much hate, we know almost absolutely nothing about the game itself, I'm cautiously optimistic and looking forward to see more about the game, the least people can do is judge the game after we've seen gameplay and other components, most of the people that hate the game just hate it simply because of the character design, because they hate ND studio and Neil Druckman or simply because they just jumping on the hate train without even knowing anything, I will be looking forward to seeing gameplay in the future then I'll judge it but the game it's probably won't release until middle to late 2026 but I'll be waiting patiently to see more in the future
Social media and especially the youtube live chat are always so negative. When the Witcher 4 was announced, everyone in the live chat was bashing it because you played as a woman and it was "woke", people have been waiting for that game for almost 10 years, the Witcher 3 is one of the most influential games of all time, people can never be happy
I think because exactly 2 people wanted Siri. The game is Geralt and that is all people wanted. No one forgot the Siri arc, but assumed/hoped it would end where it was and we get back to Geralt.
@@justanotherday5441sorry but the devs had made it clear that Witcher 3 was the end of Geralt's arc, not Ciri's. Blood and wine literally had Geralt have a place to settle in Toussain (Corvo Bianco). Ciri is a great character and has been integral to the books, so I'm excited to play as her, but most importantly, I just want to explore the world of the witcher and experience a great story.
I also feel like I'm in the middle. But these people screaming woke at every turn are just so insufferable. They don't even care that it might just be the devs or creators' vision rather than some agenda. As soon as they see a female character who doesn't look like the type of girls they fantasise about, or they see a trans, gay, or non-white protagonist, the product is immediately woke. Just give me a great game and I'll be happy. And you can't decide a game is bad without playing it, escially if you're not even willing to give it a chance based on your pre-existing beliefs.
I knew from the INSTANT that I saw all the unnecessary product placements and stupidly expensive movie stars showing up, this game isn’t it for me. Naughty Dog is never gonna stop doing these “movie” games and I just have to accept that my childhood memories with Jak & Daxter are just that, memories. ND would rather shove their noses SO FAR up Hollywood actors’ asses that even David Cage would blush in embarrassment. I can’t even say that I’m glad they’re doing something different, because IT ISN’T. It’s the same hyper realistic Sony slop the company keeps churning out. I feel you are miss representing people's problems with the last of us part two the majority of people had issues with the narrative of the game if you listened to level-headed people their issues were with the handling of Joels death and the treatment of his character, having to play half the game as his killer who wasn't a particularly likeable character and the way Neil druckman dealt with criticism and people speaking about the leaks also added fuel to the fire. I didn't hear anyone complain about leb personally I think that character was actually one of the highlights of a game I didn't really like. I might be wrong but this was my personal experience.
Why wasn't Abby likeable? After finding out why she wanted revenge and seeing her realize she was wrong for doing it the way she did was incredible to see for me. In fact it was Ellie I was constantly getting mad at because of the whole revenge warpath she was going on. I was just staring at her refusing to press the button to kill the woman you corner in the spores. I was sitting there like "Ellie come on walk away we don't have to do this." Then again, I wanted Joel to die because he took away Ellie's dream (excusable) and then lied to her about it for years (not excusable)
There were absolutely a lot of people who just didn't like the story direction. But there was absolutely also a concerted effort by weirdos to blame all of the problems normal people had with the game on woke, dei, and other misogisnist ideas like that.
@@innegativeion Yeah like sure there were valid complaints that mostly came from opinions which can't be wrong because they're opinions. But the majority of people who actually played the game, loved it. The loudest group was just the people screaming woke agenda bs.
@@PurpleEyedMintAbby's motivations make sense sure but I think it's hard to sympathise with a character like Abby without any prior knowledge of her, Joel and Ellie were already established so it is only natural for the players to care about what happens to them. I also think a big part of this is how you interpret the first game I feel that Joel's choice was deeply rooted in what humanity had become and that he felt Ellie didn't deserve to be sacrificed for their sake . If we look at this objectively he should of given her a choice sure but the firefly's also didn't give her a choice so he took matters into his own hands, that's how I see it anyway. I am sorry but I don't think most people liked this game it might be my lived experience but many people from what I saw and spoke with disliked this game, I have found it quite rare to find somebody who did like it and if you did I am glad that was the case I really wanted to like it but I just didn't. Also I agree some people did have a problem with the game for reasons like leb but they are a minority the broader opinion is simply the narrative wasn't as good as the first game and it was just a bit disappointing.
@PurpleEyedMint People didn't like the game because it showed Sony's hypocrisy. This gets a s-scene with full frontal nudity but anime girls showing midriff gets censored.
These folks said for years “Why do they have to shoehorn POC and women into our franchises? Can’t they make their own?” Then they make a brand-new franchise and still they complain. I don't understand why Cynical is giving this a platform.
Some folks said that, I think these games should exist, but they should be ready for it to not sell well, we should not be expected to buy it just cause.
@@Workingmonkeyz that's fair but you are also kidding yourself if you think Intergalactic, The Witcher 4, and Ghost of Yotei are not gonna sell gangbusters.

@LewisJones-j2e entitled... good word choice for these people. They feel entitled to complain that a woman doesn't look hot enough for them. Its a video game, not porn. I could go into every game trailer with a generic white male protagonist and feel entitled to criticisze the game for not having a character I find attractive right? No because that is obnoxiously shallow behavior.
@LewisJones-j2e make your "criticisms" worth it then and actually constructive or relevant, instead of just not-so-thinly veiled whining cause the digital woman didn't get gussied up for ya.
There’s so much hate in this comment section. I tried to go to a positive comment for refuge after doom scrolling the comments, only to remember that the replies had a lot of hatred in them too. 😭 I don’t want to end the day on such a negative note.
Didn’t they hate on Stellar Blade’s main character because she is too hot but was based on a real person? Now that main character is not considered “hot” it’s a problem? That is crazy 😂
The people attacking Stellar Blade because it had a hot lead were and are actually the adversaries of the people attacking Intergalactic, assuming this whole thing isn't some guerilla outrage marketing ploy anyway.
I'm actually excited for it. Reminds me of stuff I watched when I was a kid. The actress is pretty hot. Love her fit. Though I agree that original character's are better for video games.
Naughty Dog better pray to God that the gameplay is so mind-blowingly, revolutionarily, objectively amazing, because otherwise I'm not gonna give this game the time of day. Everything about it from the characters, the setting and the monster feel so average and generic it boggles my mind. Not a good first impressions my any means. So to summarize as much of this comment section as much as possible 1) Bald Women suck 2) If a company releases one polarizing game, they have to prove themselves. 3) Wokeness can be good/bad/based purely on politics 4) Point 2 does not apply under the circumstance that you make the game I want you to make (Uncharted or Jak) I think that basically summarizes the bulk of the 484 and counting comments Edited for spelling mistake
Game looks dope, let creators create. People complain when they remake old games, people complain when they have brand new ideas. Stop whining so damn much about everything and enjoy life .
I’m always confused when people say games are trying to enforce a gay or woke narrative. Gay people do exist. Black people do exist. Putting them in games doesn’t make the game. There are definitely games that push certain narratives but from what I’ve seen 98% of the time when people say that game is trying to be woke. Just happens to be a black person or a gay person in the game. 😂 this game isn’t even out yet and people are claiming it’s “woke” The proof is in the pudding. I’m not saying everyone who saying this is racist just that you have certain bias that you might be aware of. Your knee-jerk instantaneous reaction to seeing a black and or gay person is oh my God not this shit again. You might have a little hate in ya bud.
Everyone knows they exist. They are a small part of the population and are over represented in media, games, and politics. People just get sick of it getting shoved in their face. We get it, people like the same sex and wear the other sex’s clothes. Whatever.
This game is for “The modern audience” it will have its cult following like any other IP but it won’t be profitable. I mean how do they expect this to do well in a market where people have been conditioned to spot this type of content.
They said the same about TLOU2 and it was a best-seller. It doesn't matter if one's advocating for inclusive content or going against it, it always boils down to the game being actually good to have it be profitable or not, and both sides overblow this kind of discussion as if it truly affected sales that much. And it never does. Look at Baldur's Gate III and Concord. Both had that kind of content front and center, but one was truly great and one was absolutely horrid. And that's all that normal people really care about. The core quality.
Concept wise? I think it’s a cool idea. This sort of Retro-Futuristic space adventure could be like Cowboy Bebop meets Blade Runner. However, execution may be where the game will falter should the team A. Focus way too much on cinematics and not enough on gameplay and B. Spend more time trying to shock the audience with big story moments rather than focusing on gameplay and world building. All Intergalactic needs to do is be a fun badass space adventure without requiring big plot subversions to cover up for stale characters and story. Make it less like the Last of Us (which I still enjoy don’t misinterpret this) and more like Uncharted and Jak and Daxter
Speaking facts dude, I adore the first last of us game but I have been yearning for that uncharted jak and dexter level of adventure feeling (Only game recently thats done that for me in an exciting way was indiana jones and the great circle)
Frankly everything you listed is the reason I never liked The Last of Us, they put so much focus on the story for those games when it's just the typical generic old gruff guy learns to care for young gutsy child in post apocalyptic setting story.
@@tubguinace Yes but it was executed extremely well. Saying that anything is just anything is useless rhetoric as there is nothing original under the sun. Every story in some way, shape, or form, has been told. Execution is the only thing that actually matters from the narrative perspective.
@myheadhurtsagain Thing is, it didn't do anything that special with its execution either, I was so underwhelmed. Typically with story templates like this what makes them interesting is the characters, who they are and how they react to a situation we've seen many times, but everything The Last of Us did had already been done much better by Robert Kirkman in The Walking Dead Comics, not to mention the show and games. I kept thinking about how much better the Telltale Walking Dead game from 2012 was while playing TLOU. Yet TLOU has gotten so much more attention over the years. TLOU just feels so generic, each character feels more like an archetype than an actual person, I relate so much more to Lee and Clementine than I do to Joel and Ellie.
It's always progressive stuff that people complain about. If people have such a big problem with minorities being in video games, maybe they just hate minorities? Call it a radical perspective, but I don't think anyone should care if bigots are getting butt hurt over masculine women being in their video games.
the entire “anti-woke” movement is just grifters lying about being offended. game looks legitimately interesting and im glad Naughty Dog are moving to an original IP.
Bro why? We don't know anything about it yet! Jesus man people are so quick to hate these days. I was BEYOND excited to see that they finally started a new IP and I think they've earned the benefit of the doubt at this point, let's just let em cook fr
Because it’s already showing signs of being a nothing burger just like their previous games. The people that make video games at large companies nowadays don’t make games we actually want. Who wanted this?
@Thirsty_Tree what previous games of theirs were nothing burgers? They are almost always successful both critically and financially. I wanted this, as well as tons of other Naughty Dog fans that were waiting to see what their next IP was. Most of us have been impatient with them bleeding The Last Of Us dry and have been waiting to see what's next.
@Thirsty_Tree who wanted this? It's a new ip so obviously we can't judge it based on who wanted it since nobody knew it existed. But ppl wanted Naughty dog to move on and make a new ip
@ I mean I’m already seeing people not really even caring about it. Main character is a stereotype of modern gaming practices and doesn’t look appealing, they didn’t show any gameplay, etc. Another example of companies not listening to their buyer base and pushing out stuff we didn’t ask for.
@soragranda it's not criticism at all, it's the usual bland "DEI" whining because game doesn't have a 10/10 female protag. The entire anti-woke brigade is just a bunch of annoying weirdos that don't want to say the quiet part out loud. They'd rather complain about how we can't go back to the ps3 era with gruff white guy #34 on the box art rather than addressing issues with gaming that ACTUALLY matter.
I admit, I was worried for a bit, but you nailed it in the second half. Speaking strictly about the character's design, all those "gamers" will instantly be mad when a female protag isn't as feminine and busty as Lara Croft and showing it off all the time. People come in all shapes and sizes
Gamers don’t deserve the effort that developers pour into crafting these unique experiences that you do not get from anywhere else. Truly you see how coddled these generations have become to complain about nothing. They didn’t learn not to open your mouth if you don’t have anything positive to say it seems. It’s not even constructive. Only stupidity being spewed. Even if I don’t like something I am grateful if someone did and someone put the effort in making it. I may not like enchiladas but I’m not gonna rip my mother apart for cooking the family a dinner that’s not catered to me.
i think you mean Overly Critical Gamers. who like to nit pick everything. I’m a causual Gamer, who respects people if they don’t like something but not directly attack some one if they like the game.
the game looks really really interesting from the trailer. if people hate on it bc of a woman with a shaved head idk what to tell them. I trust naughty dog on this one their track record gives me a lot of confidence
I don't want to play as a masculine chick with a shaved head. I want to play as either a bad ass dude or a femme fatale. Feminine women and masculine men. None of this androgynous modern audience nonsense.
@-Down-D-Stairs- then go play one, no one's stopping you. Yall freaks don't know how to just say "meh this aint for me", you gotta make a spectacle out of it now. Cause i can tell ya who this game IS made for, and it's me, I wanna play the androgynous protag with a sword, and I'll enjoy it better without yall puttin your whole hind ends out crying cause ya cant play a power fantasy or goon to em.
You answered your own question. People are fed up with politics and go to games to escape reality. These are the type of politics where if you don't actively celebrate DEI themes, you're an -ist and deserve to lose your livelihood. There is no middle ground or agree to disagree; it's either you fully support or you're a bigot. So when people go to games to escape from that just to find it there as well, people are going to get pissed. You want an example of there being zero middle ground? Look at the Spiderman mod that removed the gay pride flags. Immediately banned. You even said it yourself, you're not trying to get canceled because you know if you say anything remotely negative, you risk losing a platform. These peoples' stances are, "You can have any opinion you want as long as it matches mine".
Talking specifically about the Spider-Man stuff, and not talking about you or anyone in here directly, if a little flag appearing in a few square feet vs. the entire New York city makes people uncomfortable enough to make them download a mod to continue "escaping reality", then... idk what to say. It straight-up seems very pathetic and petty. It also comes across as very privileged. Like, damn, one'd like to worry about those kind of things all the time lmao, from both sides of the extreme discussions of this kind, cuz there're some crazies on both sides. Plus it's not like they made Peter Parker have a boyfriend or something. It's such an overexaggeration of a situation. And there's people from that side of society who also use games to escape from reality. And they only get a flag and a brief side-quest. That's fine imo, it's not like they're changing actual core plot points or characters. If one doesn't like a game and what it includes, as long as either side doesn't offend the other and go ballistic, then fine. Hell, if this one's being upfront about what it's gonna be, then even better, that helps people be in the know and choose what they're gonna spend their money on before being disappointed while actually playing.
I just quite frankly don't really care? I'm reluctantly open to it but on a personal level space games aren't really my thing and I'm not the target audience.
They literally showed nothing in the trailer in terms of a story or visual outside of like 2 seconds of concept at the end. What are you building this opinion on?
@veloxicality kid, I don't have to defend what I like to randoms on the net. I was expressing a personal opinion on the game because I watched the trailer instead of just TGJ talking about it while not wanting his video claimed. Not everyone is trying to argue all of the time.

I never checked social media or the comments for this game. I loved checking TGA and just enjoying all the games being shown and i felt really happy. Thank you for reminding me not to check social media and just enjoy life and games instead.
What I’m honestly lost is, what is it about this game announcement (And remember its an announcement) that warrants any of these strong judgements in the first place. We saw like what 3-5 minutes of a cinematic with no story, no gameplay, and a couple shots of product placement. What are we upset about right now in terms of a game we haven’t even seen? Any complains outside of the product placement right now is beyond me.
Every Naughty Dog game thus far has been fictional. They don't make documentaries. Also, I definitely agree with the point on including real actors. It's jarring and takes me out of it.
I really hate to be negative... But giving the signs this trailer is giving, and the direction druckman took TLOU 2, I'm really not too hopeful they'll be able to do the game justice. Sure the gameplay will be fine, I have no doubts about that, but the story holding it together? I'm not convinced their current team is competent and mature enough to write any sort of story that will resonate with the average human being. I'd love to be proven wrong, but this trailer came out swinging with all the signs that all the other AAA games have had for the last few years, and they've all been horribly written, insufferable, and sold terribly. I don't want to hate on games anymore, and I will give it an honest chance and watch reviews, but I have a very strong feeling that this game will just be another lecture on identity and someone's self insert fan fiction on a struggle that literally no one playing these games will resonate with.
I do feel bad for the devs. They have been working very hard on this new game. That being said, Naughty Dog's reputation and the reputation of the gaming industry are both working against them right now. Narratively, LOU2 was not well received. Joel was mishandled then killed off in an unsatisfying manner. Then they spent the game trying to get you to sympathize with Abby after she brutalized Joel and trying to portray Ellie as the bad guy. The endywas wholly unsatisfying as well. They have then spent the better part of the decade re-releasing TLOU to us. In that time the gaming industry has been shoving DEI into games. By that, I mean where companies will make the DEI a priority focus over gameplay and/or a rich narrative. Couple that with the fact that most bigger companies release maybe 1, max 2 games a decade now, it's not hard to see everything working against the company that has been shoving TLOU at everyone for almost 10 years.
I don’t have a problem with female leads in games. It’s just I prefer to play as a male character, which I don’t think anything is wrong with that considering I’m a male. I’m excited for the Witcher four because I love Ciri as a character.
@@tcgwarrior That's not really an issue, if that's what you're looking for. If you're ranting over a new titled game because of that specifically, then it does become an issue. A lot of people seem to forget that there're so many games out there nowadays, especially with indie devs. That or they believe that studios like naughty dog are the only ones making games in the industry. Lol
@@happymate8943 Plus, that logic goes both ways; women wanna play games with female leads, thus a need was established that the industry was to cater to. Supply and Demand, and all that, nothing inherently wrong. There's still plenty of games out there with male leads, after all~

They said that 20 years ago and that’s when market towards those types of games was changing. There’s been a huge resurgence in those games now . I’m sure someone at Naughty Dog wants a crack at that type of game again but the studio as a whole wants to stay more cinematic

If the Laura Bailey thing happens to this actress… Naughty Dog better beef up their online security for her cause that was absolutely disgusting and ridiculous.
I havent been a fan of naughty dog since the first last of us, which while a great game in its own right i think it contributed to the current damage with the gaming scene and the "cinematic experience" games. They peaked with jak and daxter and never recovered imo. i couldnt care less what the MC looks like or identifies as if the game is good thats all i need, but i just dont have faith in modern naughty dog game direction or neil druckman, but if the gameplay looks good and intrests me i may give it a shot.
This. So much THIS. I have no faith in ND to make this an actually great game, when for the past 20 years they've just been making "cinematic masterpiece" crap. The ND that made Jak and Daxter is LONG GONE.
LOL ND made last of us which at the time changed everything. Gaming and movies as well. Then they rereleased it on ps4 which is fine but then last of us 2 came out and well since then they rereleased both games about 4 times just so they can cash in.
Yep just watched the trailer again to see if I was trippin, a girl on a retrofuturistic spaceship going on a suicide mission for unknown reasons with a cool looking enemy at the end. Yeah I'm down.
This kinda makes me wonder: would the original Metroid game be bashed as “woke” if it were made today, especially with the ending reveal that Samus is a woman? 🤔
Nah people would be too critical of it's technical limitations and 8 bit graphics to focus on anything else because people these days are graphics hos more than anything, plus actually getting that reveal requires finishing the game under a certain time or knowing the Justin Bailey cheat code which puts it out of reach of the masses so it would likely be buried in the news cycle before people figured it out.
So many games and films from the 80’s and 90’s definitely would be considered ‘woke trash’. Some off the top of my head would be Predator 2 (black lead), FF7 (cross dressing and a ‘buff’ chick), Mulan (supposed LGBT representation being ‘forced’). If they were released today with modern technology and aesthetics people would hate them, but because they came out at a time when the looks were ‘trashy’ it didn’t matter
@@douglasfreer This whole "if X came out today it would be called woke" line of argument is really reductive because it never asks nor answers the why. Why would X be considered woke if it came out now? It's largely the same people who grew up with all of the old examples popularly used for X that are now anti-woke, you'd be shocked how many of them are huge Buffy fans even now actually, they even use those examples regularly as comparison points between media then versus now. So what's different between now and then that caused this shift? Even assuming that the same people had a shift in mentality again that begs the question why, people don't just change their mind magically there's always a reason for it. Now I have an answer why that I am very confident in that I could just state but I don't think that would be as helpful as it would be to encourage people to figure it out for themselves
Neil hasn't exactly given us reason to believe he can give us a well written product. He's been the president of the company for 6 years now and his track record on the games he's worked on even before that has not been good. The Last Of Us 2 was just a very big indicator of his creative and literacy capabilities. There's a reason we're writing it off without giving it a chance. There is very little good will around Naughty Dog right now.
To *respectfully* explain why the DEI stuff is rightfully hated... Representation does not matter. Hear me out. Look at Latin America. What is the typical skin color of that area of the world? And yet their HERO is Goku, a not-Asian light-skinned alien who can blow up planets by sneezing. But he is aspirational as a character. Who he is as a person inspires people to better themselves. It doesn't matter that he looks nothing like most people. He isn't "representing" a specific demographic. What matters is that he, as a character, is someone to aspire to be. He is a positive role model. When characters are race-swapped, obese, etc just for show, it's "aspirational" on a purely shallow level. Quite literally skin deep. And this is not only insulting (tokenism), but also a deeper issue that shows the development was fueled by lazy pandering to a minority of the audience. When you hamfist DEI into a game, it's like someone on a first date trying to woo you by showing off all of their expensive jewelry and their fancy car. Having those things TECHNICALLY isn't wrong, but it's a red flag that they seem to value wealth and possessions so highly, or think so lowly of you that they think YOU care about all that. Is having money nice? Well, duh. But when you base your value entirely around that wealth instead of who you are as a person, that's an issue. And for a game to flaunt its DEI elements so brazenly is like a first date flashing you a large fan of big bills. EDIT: To be clear, this is just me explaining the idea in general. Based on the trailer in the video, "bald, masculine woman" doesn't ring as forced DEI to me. Given the setting, that's entirely believable and not all that distracting.
Okay, fair point, but it's also equally as valid to want to be represented in some way in the media we consume. And both sides of this issue can be done very, very poorly, lol
@@MintyCoolness I certainly understand the desire to be represented, but not all desires should be sated. A desire to have your most shallow traits represented encourages shallow values. There's an adage in business: "The customer doesn't know what they want." And it's true. Many of the biggest successes in history - be them business, political, or otherwise - are things the general public didn't even know it wanted. Look at Avatar: The Last Airbender. If you asked pre-Avatar audiences "Do you want a children's show that tackles topics like mortality and murder and revenge and child abuse?" they'd lock you in a cell and call you a threat to society. But here we are in 2024 with that series rightfully being lauded as one of the greatest feats of storytelling of the modern age, if not ever. LITERALLY NOBODY on the consumer end even conceived of a Disney and Final Fantasy crossover, and Kirby's design is a literal mistake, and these franchises are now widely beloved mainstays of gaming. My point is that while customer feedback is important, it is also not paramount. If you need any proof of that, look at the player suggestion forums of literally any game lol
@gagejoseph91 Your last point is at least true, and is another thing that goes both ways. By that very same token, ppl who shout about 'wokeness' just a fervently as their ideological opponents also aren't automatically owed attention, nor the chance to be represented.
@@MintyCoolness Nothing I said is meant to sound like the development is always ight, not at all. Centrists are needed for exactly this reason. The customer is not always right, but they also aren't always wrong. The company is not always right, but they also aren't always wrong. People capable of parsing which is which and when are necessary. The artist may not accept criticism of his work, but it's also possible that the criticism is equally biased and unfair. I'm not saying we should ALWAYS listen to the majority or ALWAYS listen to the developers. Jared just seemed confused as to why anti-DEI people care about such a thing, so I was explaining why. That's why the EDIT I added was a disclaimer about how I'm not automatically on the anti-DEI side by default. They can be wrong, too.
People started hating ND games after Amy Hennig left and cockman was given the lead. He gaslights and hoodwinks the player base and single handed drove a portion of the fans away and now this…….. good luck I say
I didn’t even know they used a real person for the protagonist. Personally compared to Jak and Nathen’s character designs there’s nothing that stands out with this character besides the jacket and maybe the sword. Although the universe looks interesting and cool I think not having the freedom to design characters because they are based on a real person incredibly limited themselves here and potentially shot themselves in the foot with not creating an original character. Overall this video was very informative about the game more than the trailer which again really has been an issue with non gameplay trailers lately.
As soon as I saw she had a shaved head I knew the internet would have this stupid reaction. Who cares?! If the game is good the game is good and if not it's not. Evaluate the game on it's own terms and if it really bothers you that much don't play it. Nothing offensive was said so I don't understand how people are dedicated to hating this on principle. I'm neutral in the game as a whole if only because this aesthetic in media is kinda overdone and generally i don't think it'll be my type of thing. Happy to see a new franchise regardless, I just hope ND make other things as well.
Positive note: Astro Bot won game of the year showing Developers that people want platformer games like Jak and Daxter. Doesn't matter now, Naughty Dog lost all my business for the rest of time!
it's funny because the dark skinned slightly muscular female protagonist that people are complaining about isn't the woke part, but the game being about taking down a planet that is basically an oppressive prison state actually is, but nobody wants to mention that because they don't care about oppressive governments, they actually want to be in one
Honestly im not excited for it, despite the trailer being decent at best for me. I'm honestly disappointed in the fact that they aren't at least havinh smaller projects going on besides this one. I love naughty dog just about as long as any of you, but i really do think like a lot of other people that they need to go back to the roots, and honestly they really should of made a character froms scratch in my opinion instead of literally copying a persons appearance. No hate towards the actress of course, basically I didn't see anything that blew me away
Honestly if this was any other studio making this game I’d probably write it off, however Naughty Dog has a proven track record. Regardless how anyone felt about TLOU2 story direction, it was extremely high quality, to the acting, visuals and gameplay. I’m really looking forward to this

Also wanted to add this little tidbit in they always want to say that the platformers died at some point right how.... Because Sonic and Mario never left Sega and Nintendo never stopped making Sonic or Mario games, no matter if we didn't get good Sonic games at one point and certain Mario games might have been a little similar like a couple others but the fact still stands that platformers never really died those two kept it alive along with different indie games.

I don't even consider the DEI and LGBTQ+ stuff as valid criticisms. Every game that showed female lead characters was being called "Woke" during the game awards. Heck even ones that had male leads.

I will never forget my best friend telling me he loved me after playing that.
yup just like no one complained about the Arcane show because it has a great story and direction.
TLou is Uncharted with Zombies? Wtf? That was the dumbest thing Ive heard today.
Generally, I don't mind actors being characters/voice actors, so long as they either:
a) do it occasionally or
2) put in the same work that actual VA's do
Keanu Reeves did fantastic as Silverhand in Cyberpunk.
@@jameslitz9819 it makes games be taken more seriously?

It's legit because the mc isn't a super model, or a super buff man.
@camharkness but that's stupid, not every female character has to look like a supermodel, maybe it's just some would hate because it's easy to do so
Social media and especially the youtube live chat are always so negative. When the Witcher 4 was announced, everyone in the live chat was bashing it because you played as a woman and it was "woke", people have been waiting for that game for almost 10 years, the Witcher 3 is one of the most influential games of all time, people can never be happy
And they literally were training syri to become a proper witcher in witcher 3. But oh how soon they forget.
@KingNoctis-b9z you're speaking nothing but facts. I've noticing this trend also. Everything is woke if it isn't a white woman or white man. Smh.

If straight people make out in public, no one cares, a gay couple holds hands on public, everyone gets mad.
Cope the way you want

That's a lot of shit to spew when you have seen nothing of the game but a cinematic trailer.

There is no middle ground or agree to disagree; it's either you fully support or you're a bigot. If one doesn't like a game and what it includes, as long as either side doesn't offend the other and go ballistic, then fine.
Finally someone with some common sense
I don’t have a problem with female leads in games. It’s just I prefer to play as a male character, which I don’t think anything is wrong with that considering I’m a male. I’m excited for the Witcher four because I love Ciri as a character.
I just don't want to play as a masculine shaved head androgynous woman.
She's not masculine though. The character is 100% modeled after the actress Tati Gabrielle. No hair doesn't mean masculine
@@tcgwarrior
That's not really an issue, if that's what you're looking for.

Androgynous means it's both male and female design or clothing, basically to the point you can't tell.
Obviously you can tell she's a woman.
Aren't shaved heads for mean and women part of skinhead sub culture?
I think the word you're looking for is tomboyish, although I don't know if the way she acts is exclusively "masculine". Depending on the group or subculture anyone can act like that. Not everyone is going to act the same.
Lastly, if it doesn't fit your taste that's okay. But I don't have a reason to cry or make noise about it.
Again we're all adults and we should know better by just ignoring something this small and move on. Lol
No one in Naughty dog wants to do games like crash or Jak. Let’s not force them to do what they don’t want to. Art is best when it comes from freedom
I don't care about their freedom man ,I just want crash
They said that 20 years ago and that’s when market towards those types of games was changing. There’s been a huge resurgence in those games now . I’m sure someone at Naughty Dog wants a crack at that type of game again but the studio as a whole wants to stay more cinematic
Fuck that. Give the consumer what they have been asking for for years. Not this boring slop.

Calling Tlou basically Uncharted with zombies is a shit take lol.

Yea we don't need to give these kind of people a platform. The whole "anti-woke/i hate DEI" movement is just garbage. I'm just excited that I get to stop hearing about The Last of Us being God's gift to Earth after the show ends it's next season cause jesus that game just looked uninteresting to me as all hell. This though? THIS CHECKS OFF ALL MY INTERESTS. 80s sci-fi Cowboy Bebop futurism vibes? Fuck YES
Fair criticism and actually truth information about shady business practices (the way dei companies coerce studies to give in to get ESGs).
Sorry to say but if anything is valid criticisms.
That said, they say they wanted to make it look like Akira and cowboy bebop, but ended looking like a guardians of the galaxy knockoff, sorry to say but execution will matters a lot.
You can be optimistic but is fair that people doesn't trust niel since the majority of the people that made tlou1 amazing left the studio years ago.
@@soragranda what the fuck kinda bullshit is this response XD where's your source about these "shady business practices" huh?
part 2 is going to be spread across more than one season in the hbo series, they’ve already said that.
The game looks amazing so far, and I cant wait to see more and play it. All the negativity I've seen is because Jordan is bald, and think she's trans but I'm pretty sure she's just a girl and always was a girl. People have gone insane.

@@kingdomheartsgamer8771you hate wokeness..... But love final fantasy 7 and kingdom hearts???
Kh, the game series with a huge queer fanbase and obviously queer characters, final fantasy, the game series that covered real life politics, especially ff7 which you clearly like?
This game looks definitely intriguing, as I'm a fan of sci-fi. I'm gonna keep my eye out for this one, and wait for more gameplay, then we'll see.
Your takes are just bad, man:
1. Last of us is basically uncharted with zombies? Yeah ok. That's a big oof from me dawg.
2. Using real actors likeness for video games is bad? How? Your justification is pretty hollow. Also near the end of the video, you're praising the actress. So which is it?
3."this is a lack of creativity. Can they not come up with their own brand? Or take inspiration from something that already exists?" Wtf is that? Do you want something original or not?
You're whining just as much as the chat during the game awards.
You are right though, about this game getting hate for no reason.
my issue is that the character design looks sh*t. Character Design is really important, thats why we are excited to see new designs from Sora. Because it matters
Get new eyes
The protagonist look so genéric and boring :(
If the Laura Bailey thing happens to this actress… Naughty Dog better beef up their online security for her cause that was absolutely disgusting and ridiculous.
I thought it looked sick lol kinda surprising to see the reaction is so negative.
Yep just watched the trailer again to see if I was trippin, a girl on a retrofuturistic spaceship going on a suicide mission for unknown reasons with a cool looking enemy at the end. Yeah I'm down.
I'm not buying It, End of story!!!
Your loss bud
The likeness for Abby exists too but they morphed her proportions in the game.
@ hmm fair point 🤷🏻♂️
In my opinion it wouldn't be considered woke because it's only "woke" when it's a person of color in these days.
I hate when yall get a new game yall say how much you hate the old games. Uncharted was gameplay focused heavy. The first last of us had no gameplay.
I'm just glad Naughty Dog is working on something other than Last of Us.
I can't believe they actually had this be the final world premiere, when Okami was RIGHT THERE and with its own orchestra
Whoa, unsubbed with this take.
same this guy sucks
I don’t hate the protagonist, I hate her lack of hair.
Yes! This looks intriguing and I am super excited to see more. Let naughty dog cook.
I wanna know where all these people were when SSX Tricky had a bald woman
I’m really looking forward to this
Dude..... For anybody saying that the platformer games can't work in this day and age there's something really wrong with you I need you all to stop the cap..... So we just going to act like the Spyro and crash didn't come back from the grave plus a plethora of other platformer IPS that have come back...... Even bubsy came back.... Come on y'all, Jak and daxter can come back we just need somebody else to do the series naughty dog is obviously not going to
Just look at Sonic x Shadow generations it came out and it received nines and high praise from a lot of different reviewers and outlets say that platformers is dead is very very silly they've had a huge resurgence in recent years so please if you're one of those people that believe that platformers are dead stop and do your research before you open your goddamn mouth!

Ah, I see you're indoctrinated. That happens when you lack basic critical thinking ability.
the logic of not liking actors in videogames makes no sense. do you also dislike seeing actors in movies? or hearing voice actors in videogames? its a media form just like anything else.
I find it kinda ironic how you described people who disliked the "woke" thing to be "self-righteous" when 2 minutes earlier you were walking on eggshells scared to "cancel" yourself if you said the wrong thing when you were giving a "controversial" take on how you feel like some of the DEI stuff feels forced. I share the same sentiments in not caring if there is diversity so long as they're naturally put into the game and not forced. I liked Lev tbh despite the fact that I HATED Tlou2. I feel like your generalization of tlou2 haters glosses over the fact that Tlou2 has legit criticisms against it.
