    I was going to move to Panama. Then covid hit and Panama and airlines shut down. Thousands of Americans were asked to leave or stranded. Now how can you trust your retirement to a tiny country that folds and kicks you out when events get rough?

      I personally LOVE Coronado, and it's less expensive for a beautiful home there.
      But I'm going to have a young roommate who has never been there, and I asked him if he wanted Coronado,
      or la ciudad. He chose the city, for all the excitement, shopping, restaurants, etc. that it offers. (Heeze a multi-millionaire, so weeze gonna live in da cité !!!!!

    It seems that shopping and eating out in restaurants is just as costly in Panamá as in the U.S. To me, a high quality of living includes clean environment. I've heard complaints about trash or litter all over.

    • @relocatewithbeth
      @relocatewithbeth  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching Donna! Food cost depends on what you purchase. There are local "fondas" where you can have a delicious Panamanian style lunch for less than $5. There are also much more expensive restaurant choices. Grocery costs also depend on what you purchase. Imported foods are about 25% more expensive than in North America, however, all local choices, especially produce, meat, beans/rice are very economical. Yes, one of the negatives is there is an issue with littering. It is not out of control and there are many beautiful and clean areas, however, is the more impoverished areas, there is a lot of trash. It is something the Panamanian government is looking to improve on and I have seen an improvement in my time here.

      Exactly! Seems backwards, doesn't it?! If you look at Panama on a map, you will see that the country runs east to west, rather than north to south. From Panama City, the Pacific Ocean is actually south and East of the city and the Atlantic is north and west.

    Hi Beth, my wife Alesia (Spanish speaking and almost retired nurse-64) and me (John, white guy, 62) have a $270,000 home (paid in full) and possibly around $3,000 - $3,400 in future social security monthly. We don't have a huge amount saved. But, would our money situation be "good living" in Panama? We are very interested in going this direction in the near future. We live in central Washington state, USA. ... John S.

      @relocatewithbeth  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching John! You should check out my video on Cost of Living: ua-cam.com/video/4V_KNI7rcdM/v-deo.html. You can live a North American lifestyle for less than $2500 per month so your social security would be more than enough. Additionally, should you decide to sell your home to purchase here as many do, you could find a great option in the $250,000 (or less) price range.

      @relocatewithbeth  3 роки тому +1

Attorney fees vary based off of many different factors but an average cost with attorney and governmental fees for residency is around $3000. One question. My in-laws don't quite fit the pension requirement. My pension will be more than enough, so can I have my in-laws as my dependents, so if I can, Then it would be a min of $1750 for Myself, wife and in-laws?

    • @relocatewithbeth
      @relocatewithbeth  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching! My understanding is you can only have your spouse and/or children as your dependents unfortunately. Also- the attorneys quote will increase per dependent.

      Thanks for watching Anthony! Yes, rentals here in the Coronado area are in the $1000 range give or take (long term). In some cases we are able to find our clients deals between $500-$700. We manage mostly beachfront condos-not sure where in Miami you can rent a beachfront condo for $900... there are other areas in Panama with lower rents and cost of living is all around less than the USA. Take care!

      @@relocatewithbeth I have lived in Thailand, Vietnam and worked in Kuwait, Dubia, Each of these places I filled the paperwork my self to get the proper visas and when you have to do it every couple months paying up to $ 5000 would make it cost prohibitive. It would be one thing if the if the law firm came up with all the documents filled and all I would do is pick up the visa but that is not the case is it. I have to produce the documents and pay and the lawyer sends a secretary to file the docs and is back with visa in an hour, is that worth it?

    • @relocatewithbeth
      @relocatewithbeth  4 роки тому +2

      @Daniel Beaudry You sound well-traveled. I'm sure each country is different in terms of process and Visas offered. Panama is known to have one of, if not the best retiree visas in the world. You can do some of the legwork yourself but by law, you must hire a Panamanian attorney for some of it as well. Once you receive your visa, whichever, you choose- it is for life- you do not have to do any paperwork or process again. When you hire a law firm- they DO take care of all documentation and you show up to the immigration office a couple times for signature and picture taking.
