  • Root Mealybugs are different kind of bugs. In this Hoya root Mealybugs update video, I will explain the difference between regular Mealybugs that you usually see on plant foliage and root Mealybugs. I will also update you on Mealybugs situation I had to deal with three months ago. Did I save my Hoya plants? Well, you just have to see to find out 😉

I am wondering about using a systemic on root mealybugs

You can try but everything I’ve tried didn’t really work. Re-rooting is the only thing that worked for me. Let me know if it works for you..

The thing about Captain Jacks is that it is made of Spinocad bacteria that was discovered in the soil around abandoned rum distilleries in the Caribbean. It was found in the soil, and to contain highly effective anti-pest properties, which is why they sell it. It is useful in soil for roots and above soil for foliage, because it promotes a healthy balance of beneficial bacteria. I don’t believe it harmed the cutting any, was most likely just a failure to thrive type of situation. Don’t be further discouraged by Spinocad because of that particular cutting.

That is very interesting information. I really appreciate it. I am not discouraged by a product in anyway. I still like it, and I will still use it. That cutting was just an experiment, it is still alive. I do understand that cuttings fail for one reason or another. We’ll see what happens if it pulls through. Thank you so much for watching, and giving me more information! 💚

You know, the longer I’ve had plants, the easier I have found it’s just easier to chop and save what you can! I would die if I found these things. I feel like now that Spring is close, those stupid mealies know it. I’ve cleaned so many off my plants-but like one or two. Not an infestation. But still! Hate these darn things. So glad your Mathildes are doing well. That’s awesome!! You’re an amazing plant mama!!! 💚💚💚

I don’t have a problem chopping them anymore either, but I know a lot of people do. I’m glad you never had to deal with those little bastards. I found infestation on plants that I purchased and never repotted. I guess from now on I’m going to check and re-pot them immediately. It’s only takes one infested plant to have a bigger issue. Honestly losing one that was just an experiment that was no big deal. I truly hope you will never have to deal with that. 💚💚💚

@@ElenasGreenPlanet there have been a few times that had I not cut up the healthy parts of my plant, I would have lost the whole thing. So yea. I’ve come to accept sometimes it’s all you can do!

Does hydrogen peroxide kill root meely bugs?

People say that it does, but from my personal experience, I did not have a good luck with it. That’s why I prefer to just cut off the roots wash it in hot water then I spray with alcohol, rinse it off after it dries then I spray it with Captain Jack’s dead bug spray and start rooting process all over again. It’s a lot, but it works.

I have been researching these pests and I really don’t like them. But I just found another great reason to use clear pots so we can see what is going on! Glad you got it under control!
