Happy New Year Tim! Do you have to half hitch the thread before rotating the vise? Another concern, it looks like the thread cords up when using the cradle and I've seen tyers balance holding the material in one hand and reeling in the thread with the other to tie off. I've never used a rotary vise, I want to get one for the reasons you stated and at least for the convenience of looking at all sides of the fly and not take it out of the vise to work on the bottom. Thanks Tim.
Half hitching the thread in most cases isn't necessary as the hook eye will keep the thread from spinning off the hook but it is a good habit to get into anyway. I haven't found thread cording to be a problem when the bobbin is held in the cradle. Yes there is some juggling to be done when you go to tie off a material but really no more than with a traditional vise set up.
I dress treble hooks, I use Chinese cock cape for my feathered, what's the best way to get the feathers to lay flat and not turn sideways on me when wrapping them?
That pretty much answered all my questions…
I can only agree! Great Stuff

Spin your bobbin counterclockwise and lay the feathers on the near side of the hook prior to securing them
What kind of fly is shown at 1:02? Thanks!
