    Harley Benton Enhanced is the best budget 5 string I've played. The build quality and the sounds you get from the bass provide amazing value for money.

    Nice base with the big B String so it djents and for 30 that case is a real winner 🤘🏽

      @CatPickStudios  5 років тому +1

      Yeah that was the main reason I wanted a 5 string = to play that djent goodness and be one of the cool kids again.

    I have this bass. With this pickup configuration, I was somehow hoping to get both Fender Jazz and Stingray tones. Unfortunately, that is not the case at all. But it is a very nice instrument. It has great flexibility of tone (even if it doesn't quite nail the ones I was hoping for), it's comfortable to play with its wide spacing, the build quality is excellent, and it looks fantastic.

      Agreed, I have this exact same Bass and the build quality is 👍🏿Fantastic, it's actually perfect (at least mine is). I've since replaced the preamp with an Audere JZ3 Pro and WOW, what a difference! Yeah, It is a little on the "heavy" side, but I Love it, and its become my "go to Bass" since I got it, the neck is absolutely amazing, It feels great in my hands and the 19mm spacing is the "icing on the cake" Very happy with this Bass.

      I have the same. I'd give it 10/10 for the money. Much better build quality than my £600 Ibinez

    Very good review! I know it is all subjective but I like my guitars and basses "on the big and heavy side". I know that there are people out there who like their instruments to weigh "nothing". It was very good that you talked about the weight and size of the bass. I already ordered one ;-)

    • @CatPickStudios
      @CatPickStudios  5 років тому +1

      Haha thanks! I have to agree on the weight think, to me instrument almost lacks something if it’s too light. It’s a weird mental thing that doesn’t have anything to do with the actual quality of the instrument :D

      I think for the money it’s great. I now have a good sounding bass that stays in tune and feels good to play. Don’t know what more I could ask for 330€.

    Hello, what do you recommend that I change the bass, the pickups, the electronics. since I have heard comments that when the preamp is active and the treble is raised it creates noise. I have also read that it would be convenient to shield the cavities. Any advice would be very helpful as the construction is excellent as are the woods and hardware. I would be very grateful if you could guide me a bit. Thank you for devoting your time to others and sharing.

    You didn't mention the 0 fret and the easy access truss rod wheel

      True, there's always something you forget to mention. Thanks for pointing those out!

    You should use index and middle finger :-) only way you should use same finger is situation when you play one note and next note is on thicker string. Try to play this way and after few days you will see how much faster you can play.
    Nice review though, I am thinking about new bass, this one sounds ok. It should be heavy, other way bass is less "bassy" ;)

    • @CatPickStudios
      @CatPickStudios  5 років тому

      Thanks, it is indeed something I’m working on! Just need to have more time with the metronome and make sure that the notes with both fingers come out evenly and that the spacing between the notes is equal as well. That’s why I still default to one finger from time to time: with two fingers the notes are not even. :)

    MJ could be code for Miller Jazz type bass. You are sounding convinced with that leap of Faith or is it Knowing now. Harley Benton are a very good company in Germany with very competitive prices. People say they are ready to play out of the box. Website is Thormann

      I have both the eMJ-5 and the Fender Marcus Miller Jazz. The Harley Benton is nothing like the Fender. I wish it was. But no.

    The low string E always give you a problem I hear fom Leeland that the fanned fret array helps the control on that low string. Helps string tension across the fretboard. Sounds very rocky or even getting funky/Slap happy as the mid freqs are nice if you need them

      A little tip I found back in the early 2ks.
      Tapered B strings.
      The winding is tapered where the string sits on the bridge, allowing a clearer tone and stronger fundamental.
      Its the next best thing to a multi scale neck and greatly helps with s 34" B string. You can get tapered E string sets as well though I've not seen any B & E sets in a while.
      I use Warwick black label strings (tapered B) and have done since 1999.

    5th string string tension. Fanned fret bass is said to improve.

    Every review on this and the 4 string version mention the bridge humbucker being trebly or underwhelming. Would you recommend doing a pickup swap? If so, which would you recommend? I’ve heard great things about the Aguilar Jazz/humbucker set

    • @CatPickStudios
      @CatPickStudios  2 роки тому +2

      Hmm mine didn't feel that trebly but long term I would have swapped the electronics and possibly pickups as well just because they were a bit noisy.

      Have you done a pickup upgrade on this Bass yet? If so, Which pickups did you go with? Was is worth it? Thanks.

    What's the weight of your bass? Doubting between this and the P shaped that is for sure lighter.

    • @CatPickStudios
      @CatPickStudios  5 років тому

      Roughly 4,5kg. Don’t know how much a bass like this usually should weight.

    • @villetuukkanen
      @villetuukkanen 5 років тому

      4,5kg is quite normal for j-style 5-string. Dingwall is ~4kg and it's lighter than usual.

      I haven't tried any basses from their Progressive series so I'm afraid I can't help with that. All I can say is that this bass is great for the money.

    What about the weight please it s so important

    • @CatPickStudios
      @CatPickStudios  2 роки тому +1

      The bass I had was definitely on the heavier side. I'm never weighing the budget guitars for my demos because having thested doezens of them I've noticed the weight varies so much between two instruments, that it's pointless to say "this guitar weighs 3.9kg" as the guitar you'll get might be a 1kg lighter or 500g heavier.

    what a little money with Harley Benton basses at home. Again and again, everytime in your room or at your mother's house. Go work and stop with this InShot stuff. Harley Benton it's never the same as a Fender Bass. Never.
