    Just starting air brushing. Seems like I go into overload every time I watch a how to video on line. This video was perfect. The reason for me feeling this way, even though you have a lot of knowledge and experience, you got straight to the point and didn’t try to impress upon me how much you really know. You seem to know your audience. Please KISS. ( KEEP IT SIMPLE STUDENTS)THANK YOU!

    I've been using this method since the first time you shared it a few years ago Robert and it works like a charm. Being an apartment dweller I have to use acrylics. The only exception is primers and that's always going to be Mr Hobby Surfacers. 👍👍

    Many acrylic users complaint about dry tip and clogs, especially Vallejo. But it is all about trigger control. Use the double action airbrush correctly. You need to spray air-paint-air. Never stop spraying air. Do this and there will be very little drytip or problems 👍

      100%. Another tip is to use the vallejo flow improver, it does miracles to avoid dry tips. I just use a few drops to "lubricate" the airbrush and that is it.

      Good tips to prolong the time for dry tip, but for long sessions you're guaranteed to get dry tip. I just wipe the tip from time to time. Good to go.

    I remember your video a while ago talking about same subject, cleaning acrylics. Before that, cleaning acrylic varnishes from airbrush was a nightmare, then I saw you using hot water, tried it, and it really works. After that I bought electric kettle and thermos mug just for cleaning airbrush. I do one thing differently: after few flushes with hot water, I use VMS acrylic cleaner ( up to 1/3 airbrush cup, and instead cotton swabs, I use round brush (5-8 size). Thanks for showing that technique then, and now for everyone that missed it back then!

    So it is okay to use alcohol to clean the brush AFTER flushing with water when using Vallejo paints?

    • @yakkyuu12
      @yakkyuu12 21 день тому

      I REALLY would flush out the ALCOHOL after you think its clean--- ALCOHOL is A --TOTAL --DRYING AGENT-- that is what is does- it ACTUALLY DRIES THE underlying PIGMENT--did you NOTICE how it REALLY DID JUST --SIT in the CUP AFTER applying the ALCOHOL-- what made it clean up easy??--It was the drying of the paint --so it could NOT STAY SO STUCK to the CUP--- it did NOT AT ALL DISSOLVE the paint-- it made it MUCH EASIER for the q tip --TO LIFT IT OFF!
      my recommendation-- do exactly what he did --- then RUN some VERY HOT water ( does not have to be boiling) through the gun-- a COUPLE OF TIMES --AFTER --you used the alcohol!
      This ASSURES there is NO little PIECES of the paint that has NOT STUCK in the line to the TIP-- this will keep your tip from CLOGGING-- the clogging IS ALWAYS --DRIED PAINT1
      Do a little experiment( this is not long) just put a little paint into a GLASS or metal container( metal is kind of like your airbrush gun -- use any metal container(little), LET it dry =- then come back and ADD SOME ALCOHOL---ONLY-- you will most likely SEE -- very little to no paint just comes off! BUT--- when you ADD hot water and then use the Q tip--- The paint easily comes off--- you may SEE LITTLE CHUNKS-- this is why you use MORE hot water to FLUSH the TINY chunks and tiny particles-- look how TINY the nozzle is on your airbrush gun-- ANY LITTLE piece can get stuck in there- worse-- it CAN AND WILL-- spurt OUT onto your PROJECT--- depending on the PSI PRESSURE of your compressor--- just use a tiny paint brush to get the chunk off or splatter off your project -- I DO NOT RECOMMEND using a q tip for this part- as the COTTON can NOW --stick to your PROJECT-- adding to more clean up!
      FLUSH out that alcohol - maybe add a TINY bit of FLOW AID --by itself--for the last flush then you are ready to go--- this all takes a lot less time than it did for me to write this!!

    for anyone using createx colors, USE THE NEW REDUCER! 4021 i9s much better than 4011 at preventing tip dry because it has some sort of retardant in the thinner. yhou could also always add a few drops of a retardant/flow improver which will help put a damper on the tip dry.

    Vince Venturella did one of his hobby cheating videos years ago showing his like 30 second process to keep your airbrush from clogging. You basically flush out your airbrush between cups of paint. Never got a clog and I’ve never pulled a needle out that had paint stuck to it before. Especially now that I have only two gaahleri airbrushes, never had an issue. I’m using ak 3rd gen and I used to use pro acryl

    Interesting. I’m still fairly new to airbrushing, and was surprised that acrylics are so hard to clean out. I mean, they’re water-based…they should clean right out, right? Not so much, I’ve found. 🤔

    It's all viable advice but the final clean needs something more agressive like mister level , certainly on mig acrylics

    Have you tried "denatured" alcohol? I think it works better, IMHO.
