One ulama in my country specialized on sickness, says almost every sick is from sin. I hear when he analyze cancer and tumor, its almost always connected to the sin to the parents. The first thing he always do is to tell the patient to ask forgiveness to their parent. For example, a breast cancer usually connected to mother. Usually when you do sin you always remember that event, even if you are forgetful person. So ask forgiveness to the mother with that specific event. He emphasized that the understanding about the sin is more important than the heal itself. The heal is just a bonus. Because, he usually quote from Quran i forgot what verses, basically saying, if you doing sin, you will taste it a little bit of pain in the world as a warning before you taste it full in hell. It also means you still considered good people. If its bad people, they usually don't get sick, no warning at all, they will receive it full in hell.
My dear sister..... your mom is pure heated person.....your responsibility is to make her familiar with the teachings of Islam ....may Allah guide her to Islam.
Sister learn tawheed first and stay away from misguided celebrity speakers like mufti menk, zakir naik, aasim al hakim, yasir qhadi, muhammad hijab, ali dawah etc to save yourself from misguidance, these people aren't islamic scholars or even students of knowledge but celebrities who will tell you things which crowd likes to hear and will hide the things which people of desires and misguidance don't like to hear which are tawheed, shirk bid'ha (religious innovation) etc. Quran - surah ali imran 3:71 O People of the Book! Why do you mix the truth with falsehood and hide the truth knowingly? You shouldn't listen to everyone who appears as a shaikh on the Internet but people who follows the Qur’aan and sunnah according to the understanding of the salafs ( 3 pious generations which prophet Muhammad pbuh commanded us to follow )
