The reality is, science itself is based on philosophical and axiomatic presuppositions which themselves can't be scientifically verified because science itself assumes they are true. So you literally have to concede that axiomatic realities are better pathways to truth than science in order to avoid the circular reasoning. It is not a straw man as first of all Imran defined the terms he would be discussing which was an aethiest perspective through the lens of naturalism and scientism. The only perception of difference is shallow sentement which although admirable, is only the result of the firing of neutrons in ones brain causing the feelings of emotion and attachment detremental to survival. Just as John Richards discussed as he claimed life is absurd without God is also an assumption that God does not exist simply because he believes in his worldview and apparently has not received any evidence that God exists. The claim that we assume that God exists is an argument which also assumes either that God does not exist or that their is no evidence for God. This is also an assumption. So to an extent both views are subjective and that is ok as the topic of discussion is not on God's existence but rather what view resonates with human nature better, what view answers our existential questions better (or at all), and whether or not can life be truly meaningful without God.

Because that's philosophy and not science. Imran was going on about testimony. Testimony isn't revelant in science. As John said, a scientific theory has to make a testable prediction like the big bang. People had done maths, interpreted it to mean that the universe was born in the big bang, then made predictions, observed those predictions with telescopes and the LHC. The scientfic theory now needs to stand the test of time for a little while longer before it becomes a scientific rule. Now, know the important thing is that I can do all these steps for myself. Science and philosophy couldn't be more different so let's not confuse them. Important questions can be answered with philosophical arguments taking into account scientific facts. Science can't answer these questions at all as they aren't scientific questions at all.

Why is Richard making it so long to emphasise the earth is insignificant when our Prohpet Muhammad P.U.B already said that the earth is so much smaller like a ring in the Sahara desert and that is straightforward everyone knows how small it is. However let me still clarify this "error" Ur actually reffering to Quran Chapter 55: verses 19-20 He released the two seas, meeting [side by side]; Between them is a barrier [so] neither of them transgresses. There is a phenomenon which we call as halocline and a similar phenomenon called the thermocline. The Quran addresses the points where sweet and salt water meet and says there is an invisible barrier called as بَرْزَخٌ (barzakhun). There thing we see here as the miracle and what the Quran describes is just this phenomenon that we can see. We also know that there were no records of this 1400 years ago, especially in the deserts of Arabia. A lot of non-Muslims, including the famous atheist scientist Richard Dawkins, try and prove the Quran wrong by using this verse and say that sweet and salt water can mix. Richard Dawkins told us to get a glass of salt water and a glass of sweet water and mix them, with this he thought he debunked the Quran. The Quran is just speaking about those phenomenons that we can observe, in fact the word that is translated as “He released” is مَرَجَ (maraja) and this word can also mean mix/jumble. What we should also keep in mind is that the barrier is not specified, it is just an unseen barrier and only god knows how big, wide and deep that barrier is. Dr. William Hay, a well known marine scientist and Professor of Geological Sciences at the University of Colorado, U.S.A. also confirmed these phenomenons and was amazed and confused that this was mentioned in a book from 1400 years ago.

Islam is a perfect religion and is unchanged to this day. The reason is that it is perfect.There is no need to make any change. Quran is a book of signs not science. But we have seen science discoveries that have confirmed what quran said. It is perfect in its lingustic tone, there are no internal conflicts unlike the "updated" scriptures. Plus, the scholars have given multiple evidences on its "claims".

Atheists can still make moral judgments simply because they are humans. Religion doesn't get to have a monopoly on morality. Abiogenesis is just nonliving matter in the right place and time finding itself configured in a way that we would call living. That doesn't violate any physical laws. Heaven is just a fantasy.

I feel like John just sat there making jokes bout all religions (Christian’s, muslims etc.) yes both are different but in all religions you at least have purpose to live and a way of living. Without religion one gets depressed and finds he or she has no meaning to live. I’ve experienced moments in my life I believed I had no purpose and even wanted to die. But when you realise you have a purpose it makes you happier.
But some atheists are very close minded and no matter what you can’t change their minds. I love all religions and don’t believe they got to follow mine. Atheists don’t have morals. Computer itself is an example that to create something intelligent enough to compute from a material you need another intelligent mind behind it to create. Silicon has always been there in the earth but only it became meaningful in terms of computation is because computer has a creator who used silicon in specific way to do it. I loved this debate. I found both participants very personable and who doesn't enjoy a debate where both sides show this level of respect to each other? I did find some comments from Imran to be somewhat patronising, the way he would say "I'll try to make this a simple as I can for you", comments like I find unbecoming of a public intellectual; it is a passive aggressive comment. The irony is however that it was Imran who couldn't (or wouldn't) grasp the simplicity of the information, and examples, that John was providing. Just as John Richards discussed as he claimed life is absurd without God is also an assumption that God does not exist simply because he believes in his worldview and apparently has not received any evidence that God exists. The claim that we assume that God exists is an argument which also assumes either that God does not exist or that their is no evidence for God. This is also an assumption. So to an extent both views are subjective and that is ok as the topic of discussion is not on God's existence but rather what view resonates with human nature better, what view answers our existential questions better (or at all), and whether or not can life be truly meaningful without God.

Because that's philosophy and not science. Imran was going on about testimony. Testimony isn't revelant in science. As John said, a scientific theory has to make a testable prediction like the big bang. People had done maths, interpreted it to mean that the universe was born in the big bang, then made predictions, observed those predictions with telescopes and the LHC. The scientfic theory now needs to stand the test of time for a little while longer before it becomes a scientific rule.
Now, know the important thing is that I can do all these steps for myself. Science and philosophy couldn't be more different so let's not confuse them. Important questions can be answered with philosophical arguments taking into account scientific facts. Science can't answer these questions at all as they aren't scientific questions at all.

The Quran addresses the points where sweet and salt water meet and says there is an invisible barrier called as بَرْزَخٌ (barzakhun). There thing we see here as the miracle and what the Quran describes is just this phenomenon that we can see. We also know that there were no records of this 1400 years ago, especially in the deserts of Arabia.
A lot of non-Muslims, including the famous atheist scientist Richard Dawkins, try and prove the Quran wrong by using this verse and say that sweet and salt water can mix. Richard Dawkins told us to get a glass of salt water and a glass of sweet water and mix them, with this he thought he debunked the Quran.
The Quran is just speaking about those phenomenons that we can observe, in fact the word that is translated as “He released” is مَرَجَ (maraja) and this word can also mean mix/jumble. What we should also keep in mind is that the barrier is not specified, it is just an unseen barrier and only god knows how big, wide and deep that barrier is.
Dr. William Hay, a well known marine scientist and Professor of Geological Sciences at the University of Colorado, U.S.A. also confirmed these phenomenons and was amazed and confused that this was mentioned in a book from 1400 years ago.

That's what they were shown and Dawkins simply confirmed how they's been misled. As soon as convection begins salt and fresh water mix.

Islam is a perfect religion and is unchanged to this day. The reason is that it is perfect.There is no need to make any change. Quran is a book of signs not science. But we have seen science discoveries that have confirmed what quran said. It is perfect in its lingustic tone, there are no internal conflicts unlike the "updated" scriptures. Plus, the scholars have given multiple evidences on its "claims".

Atheists can still make moral judgments simply because they are humans. Religion doesn't get to have a monopoly on morality.
Abiogenesis is just nonliving matter in the right place and time finding itself configured in a way that we would call living. That doesn't violate any physical laws. Heaven is just a fantasy.

I feel like John just sat there making jokes bout all religions (Christian’s, muslims etc.) yes both are different but in all religions you at least have purpose to live and a way of living. Without religion one gets depressed and finds he or she has no meaning to live. I’ve experienced moments in my life I believed I had no purpose and even wanted to die. But when you realise you have a purpose it makes you happier.
But some atheists are very close minded and no matter what you can’t change their minds. I love all religions and don’t believe they got to follow mine. Atheists don’t have morals. In this video, at certain moment (i forget), Richards expressed the reasoning behind how consciousness arose from mere material by giving example of Silicon's mechanism in computer. Computer itself is an example that to create something intelligent enough to compute from a material you need another intelligent mind behind it to create. Silicon has always been there in the earth but only it became meaningful in terms of computation is because computer has a creator who used silicon in specific way to do it.
In similar argument we can conclude that to get biological life from material it requires some intelligent mind to make it work...

For this scientist I will question one thing since he kept going off about the probability being a false comparison. Entropy is a scientific and universal process that states that things will tend to become more disorderly as time goes on. This can be applied to the system of our universe. From this disorderly process then how is it possible that earth with perfect conditions for human life was formed and even further so humans(complex organism). This is like saying if given enough time an airplane would appear in your backyard when we know that airplane had a manufacturer as well as someone placed it there. 45 minutes in (both sides have given their opening statements) and imran made a very eloquent and thought provoking discussion while John, who had the same amount of time, I felt covered hardly anything... I was very surprised when his time ran out.

Some do come to debates trying to disprove god, but that is not possible. There is a need for solid evidence, otherwise there is little reason to believe it exists. Even assuming the universe requires a creator it is impossible to know what it is or what it wants.
As for what people do in private, that is their problem.

I loved this debate. I found both participants very personable and who doesn't enjoy a debate where both sides show this level of respect to each other? I did find some comments from Imran to be somewhat patronising, the way he would say "I'll try to make this a simple as I can for you", comments like I find unbecoming of a public intellectual; it is a passive aggressive comment. The irony is however that it was Imran who couldn't (or wouldn't) grasp the simplicity of the information, and examples, that John was providing.
I personally feel that it has nothing to do with Imrans intelligence. I find it to be a matter of honesty. Cognitive dissonance. He chooses, like most theists, to dismiss knowledge that apparently contradicts their belief. That is to say theists are not interested in open mindedness lol. Religion is a closed minded belief system.
Nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed the debate. Thank you for doing this guys.

Great debate. I really wish it was extended during the questioning when John Richards said he only believed in what could be tested or reproduced. Loved your India example but next time use Pakistan 😊. So he was willing to believe in things that he had not tested or reproduced but since they could be then he would accept them as true. I wanted him to be questioned more here and wondering how I could respond to him when he said that? One thing that comes to mind is I can ask him if he believes historical facts that he can not test nor reproduce. Please give me some other responses I can use against his argument.
