Jon, been wanting to say this for a while now, so here goes. I'm a disabled Navy Seabee with PTSD. Your channel, the way you talk and explain things has a very calming affect on my rattled brain. Keep up the great work, it helps.

Can't wait for the scarecrow to get his own little mini-segments on the channel in the future telling us about life as a scarecrow in the 18th century.
Like: what did scarecrows eat in the 18th century; how long did they have to work their indenture in the fields before they became free scarecrows; and how often did they get a new set of clothes?
That poem is an excellent find. I can imagine clothing was valuable in any condition, so you would use only the things that were beyond repair. The story punctuates that nicely. Your hawk-scarer looks effective and we will be curious what they think!

It's great to see Ivy in another video! I hope we get to see more of her in the future. Your scarecrow turned out beautifully! And your chickens look very healthy and full of energy. Thanks so much for the great video and wonderful poem. Hugs from Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦!
What a joy to see Ivy again!. I think it has been years since the last time I saw her in one of your videos. She is growing into a lovely young lady. Her long, flaxen tresses are pretty and impressive. This was a fun little piece.
Great to see Ivy. Especially since she seems to enjoying what you are doing. May she continue the Townsend name into the next generation. And may your scarecrow protect the chickens from animals that would consider them lunch.
If you lined a hole, stuck pole up scarecrows jacksie, greased bottom of pole it would spin in breeze, put wooden wind chimes on each arm and it would keep everything not used to it away from your crops and chickens, I would imagine wild animals would get used to stationery object
Enjoyed seeing Ivy again. She is a beautiful young lady. The first videos I watched were of you and Ivy cooking together. Thanks for the poem and the scarecrow, great job.
My young daughter loves any episode with Ivy in it, so I'll have to show her this one! (Also the cat in the field there will make her day as she's cat obsessed)
Watching this wonderful video reminded me of when we were kids. We put up a scare crow and later my father came home at night from work and thought a stranger was in the yard. He yelled at it for a while before he realized what it was. 🎃
Ivy! What a great surprise to see John and Ivy working together. I hope we get more of this content in the future. Loved the reading of the poem and the making of the scarecrow. Ivy is growing into a beautiful young lady. I have always loved the cooking videos with Ivy. Thank you for sharing this with us.
It may not be historically accurate, but nowadays they make chicken saddles. It's essentially a denim vest that goes over the chickens back and serves two purposes: it makes it difficult for a predator to grab the top of the chicken, and it also has eyes to make it seem like the predator is being watched, so they are less likely to attack.
Jon, cherish these shared moments with Ivy. I know from experience how soon they dwindle as she grows. Those moments become the memories you keep long after they are leading lives of their own. Thanks for letting us intrude upon this particular father-daughter moment.
What a great video! Thank you so much for the wonderful poem and craft time😊🎃. which, now that I think of it, means that the classical image of a scarecrow was probably not terribly well stuffed. Just clothes on a wooden frame. which makes sense.
Every Fall field should have a scarecrow to keep watch. I must say it is impressive the Ivy takes part and is keeping in the Townsend tradition. Your videos dwell on simpler times that many of us just wish to get a taste of.
