Question: what brand and type of ratchet were you using in the beginning of the video to get the throttle off? I’m finding it difficult to get that top left corner bolt off 12mm. My ratchets are too big it seems.
Awesome video. Even though I don't have this engine anymore, I loved watching it. Everyone calls it the 3 Slow. Is it wrong that I loved that engine and the mechanical sound it always made?
Haha thanks! I agree with you. There is a distinct sound and smell they produce that brings you back to a simpler time. She's slow but a 4runner or Tacoma is happiest in 4 Low anyways.
After doing this job I don't believe it is required. The gasket seats into the valve cover pretty well. I haven't had any leaks so far since doing this job.
I have a 94 and having problems in the same way need to flush everything out engine , radiator cause the last mechanic didn't do something right now I have over heating, smokie tailpipe . Thanks for this info I learn this for sure the difference valve cover gasket and seal gasket. I believe they didn't seal something up right cause I have a milky oil dipstick not Good . They told Me to bring it Back . Nope 😢 are they Crazy
Same thing with my 95' it was the head gaskets it takes so long to do but if you can take it in and pay for it have them do it. If not I'm betting 30 man hours to take it all the way down and back together with new water pump timing belt thermostat and all the stuff you break along the way.
I had this done by a shop shortly after buying our 4Runner about 4 years ago and it was I think around 600$ CAD if I remember correctly. Material cost isn't much but the time is the expensive part. Thanks! We love Oregon it's beautiful.
Thanks for being super detailed! Fixed up my truck with this and it’s running great. Cheers!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for your support!
Pretty involved for a valve cover gasket!
Yeah, going to be honest between the truck and the 4runner, I prefer working on the Cummins over the 3VZE.
Thanks for fixing my cool car :)
My pleasure.
all good but i will recommend to to the cam plugs also. Good job!
Thanks! Yeah we had them done around 2 years ago when this job was done by a garage. Then it started weeping again so this was my crack at it. 👍

I was using a 1/4 inch drive Stanley ratchet. I have the large Stanley ratchet set and it's the smallest of the 3.
Good video, nice job with this repair.
Thanks!

@@roughcutsgarage You said it.
Good work! 👍🏻
Is gasket maker RTV stuff also recommended between the gasket and the valve cover?

Oooh milky oil dipstick sounds like the dreaded head gasket issue. Good luck with that!

I have 93 T100 same issue. Any idea what a shop would charge for this- I’m in Portland, Or. Wish you were
