What fabulous, down to earth gentlemen, each had a lot to say, what I call a “group”, no egos, just polished talent that never failed to shine bright. Always love these fellas’, always will.
So very glad I had the opportunity to see this interview because I learned things I never knew. They happened to be one of my favorite groups back in the day. Thank you
It's obvious Marvin and Chuck were still bitter about Johnny Funches having quit the group when they were still trying to make it big. It's sad as hell, but simultaneously funny how they intro and clown Johnny Carter. I've always thought the "dresser" character in 5 Heartbeats was based on Chuck Barksdale, one tough and honest man. Johnny Carter's a monster in Rock and Roll history who influenced so many who came after him.
Just noticed this (again), Marvin Junior is so straight forward, he still hesitates when thoughts of Johnny Funches comes up, he won't mention his name ("other guy quit"). Amazing group of fella's who stayed together despite life's issues no different than the others who started during same era, just so poignant when they all speak as if the same person is talking.
The Greatest Group Of All Time.
Isn't Marvin the one that leads I touched a dream?
They were so underrated, they were a badass group..love( The Dells!)
RIP IN PEACE JOHNNY CARTER!!!!!!!!!! YOU WILL BE MISSED!!!

Marvin Junior was the lead singer of the Mighty Mighty Dells.
One of favorite singers! Along with David Ruffin and Eddie LeVert.

Met Mr. Chuck Barksdale on many occasions. I played bball with his son Chucky Jr. in HS. He went to many practices to support his son
Unpretentious is the word, I agree with you
