  • Part Two of a rarely seen documentary on the making of "Spider-man and His Amazing Friends", an animated series which aired on NBC Saturday mornings in 1981.
Disclaimer: I do not own the content involved, but have shared this in the spirit of fan interest. This is possibly a lost time capsule never to be seen otherwise.

Man those bring back memories. Those voices are ICONIC to me.
What a fun show. I loved it as a kid back in the 80's. Comics and these shows are what fueled my desire to work in illustration and animation . And even do a bit of work for Marvel.
Great post. Thanks so much for it. :)

Very, very good choices. I like to see all those classics myself. These days kids have sloppy animation, lackluster characters and unimaginative plot lines.

This is amazing. I loved that show through the 80's on to today, but never could get more info on it. Not much here that I didn't know already except... they were already outsourcing animation to Korea! The soundtrack is still amazing, and I wish somebody had clean recording of it. Thanks to Disney Plus we can finally see most of the episodes again.

A lot of "American" shows were already being outsourced to the East. For example, most of Hanna Barbera's stuff was being done overseas by the end of the 70s. Filmation was one of the few remaining studios handling things stateside

I'd like to see those, the Spider-man 1981 series, the 80s Hulk series, the 1978 Fantastic Four, the 60s Marvel Super Heroes shows, and the 1960 Batman Filmation series.

As you probably know all of those things are on UA-cam now. The music from the 60s Batman Filmation is sheer excitement. Public Enemy sampled it in Bring Da Noise.

Was really hoping they'd show the source of the sound for Spidey's web-shooters.

I disagree. We're looking at kids' shows through the eyes of adults. While all of those shows were classic, there was stiff animation, some extremely illogical storylines (especially considering the sources they were based on), and silly dialogue. However, I feel they are important to the history of animation. There are diamonds in the rough. Stuff like "Justice League", "Young Justice", and "Avengers: EMH" easily smokes any of the stuff we grew up with.

I hear you. It's on Netflix, although there are a lot of errors. For one, they way they were originally aired was with a lead in before the main credits. They have since edited them so that the main credits start first, thus losing all of the suspense of the shows. Also, the Stan Lee narrations are missing from the second and third seasons. It would be great if they could restore these for a disc release.

Yup, it be nice to get this on a proper USA release along with other saturday morning cartoons. I dont understand why Spider Woman and Spiderman and His Amazing Friends are ONLY available on dvd in Europe? It's kind of annoying to see such classics get shafted while trash like Jersey Shore and Simple Life already have dvd releases.
