The sun's light will go through the pin hole and project onto the other side of the box. That's why you should glue or tape a piece of white paper onto the inside of the box opposite of where the two squares were cut out

Why does foil have to be involved? Placing it with the shiny side to the sun causes reflection back to the eye, (which with only a flash light is at the least annoying... I imagine with the sun it is even worse). Placing the foil with the dull side to the sun is still giving some reflection back to the eye, again annoying. Why can't one use a piece of paper or just make a small hole into a thing piece of card board (I understand that corrugated may be too thick for this) ???
