Does this also apply to Saltiga 2020 14000XH in term of bail arm is not fully secure to the rotor. I notice the screw(the one on opposite of line roller bearing) that attach the bail to the rotor, as soon as I squeeze the bail and rotor, I feel like it is not fully rigid. It is kind of shaky. Is this normal for a $1000 reel or is it a problem? I try to tight the screw but it won't fix the problem. I also notice there seem to be a tiny gap in between a rotor and bail. Is this normal?
Hi, Could you do teardown saltiga 2020 clicker? I noticed that the water do trap inside the clicker area regard closed up the drag when washing the reel. I am not sure if that will be an issue in the long run as if you fish in the sea over time and the salt build up would corrode any metal parts inside the clicker? After cleaning I have to try to shake the spool to let the water out and leave it overnight before putting them back together so the water can evaporates more efficiently. Thanks in advance
Hello Calvin, how are you? I hope everyone well! I've been following you for some time, congratulations! I know you are more than a Daiwa part, and I have been for many years, but since 2010 I have not liked their company policy. I still use and keep the old '04 Certate, Morethan Branzino, the old Catalina 4500H and above all the old and real '01 Saltiga Z. Shimano and Stella have their faults; but don't think that daiwa and Saltiga (especially the '20 Saltiga), are perfection ... As said before, daiwa still hasn't said why it replaced the rotor in zaion, and returned to aluminum. This means implicitly admitting that the rotor of the old Saltiga Z was more robust. Also why did they replace the main gear marine bronze with an aluminum? Is this why they put an increased gear to "hide" the great quality of marine bronze and the early wear and tear of aluminum? Surely there is also in the Stella, but in the clutch of the '20 Saltiga I still see a lot of plastic ... And the knob? Ok the Stella's one wears more easily; but is it possible that nobody in daiwa has ever noticed, that the new egg knob is definitely slippery? Best regards, Alexander.
alexander , hi there, the this reel hearsay had Daiwa NZ, Aus and Japan involved in the development, i honestly did not have any issues with zaion at all but been hearing anglers complaining about it being flexed till touching the spool during high drag, i am out of big game popping scene for long time so i unable to experienced enough till all these level . nothing is inevitable, Z series often have breakage on the reel foot or bail arm areas too. Casted frame, what do we expect right? definitely weaker than a monoblock but again...what price tag will it be by then? As for knob....the egg shape was hearsay suggested by Aus Daiwa, seen somewhere in a FB post when one of them replied to my critics of replicating and identical JM’s egg shape knob just without holes. So yea... answer very obvious... but again.... knob wise, hard to please everyone, millions of anglers around the world, “here is my design , my style, take it? or change what ever you like after you buy it” As for gears, why they changed the material? few reasons i can wild guess of, as i am not involved, - its definitely OEMed, could have contract issues over manufacturing cost? wont be surprised anyway if its true. Its all business - Its all about costings when comes to business, i have yet to check how much the new gears will cost but the new material definitely Lighter , production cost again , probably faster and cheaper too. Marine bronze was really expensive to replace TBH, so in summary. Cost, Time, Weight, Inventory, Cranking feel. The new gear might be in the sweet spot for both Consumer and Daiwa, the Marine bronze if mishandled or abused , gear feels very grindy fast due to the hardness compensation of 2 materials. it have to be definitely a give and take ratio to keep the smoothness as long as it can. cheer Calvin
Hi Calvin, I unfortunately remember the accidents of the old Saltiga Z, twice I saw the rotor arm break, and once the foot, but in the latter case, I think it was the Japanese fisherman's neglect. I remember that certain prostaffs, insinuated convinced, that the zaion being rather elastic, could better absorb the oscillations. Anyway I hold on to my old Daiwa, what I believe are reels for fishing, obviously they too have flaws, because there is no perfection (Saltiga Z 5000, Catalina 4500H, Morethan Branzino, Certate blu and Hyper custom) . But for my way of seeing the reliability, the new materials of today and the desire to present the novelty at all costs, it then leads to bad adelle surprises, as you say business. For example, surely I'm wrong, but I think they put a bigger gear, just to camouflage it, to hide any early wear of the same, since it is no longer in marine bronze. They must present something new first, so they conquer the market, even if I admit that the monocoque body is a great thing. But as you said, in your video: "The Legend ... Saltiga Z 6000" ... I am glad that you are well, keep up the best, for me you are the best reel maintainer. Best regards, Alexander.

Steela or Stella?
Por lo q he podido apreciar en este video la Saltiga 2020 supera al Stella en muchos aspectos importantes
I"m curious why you didn't do a comparison with the 2019 Stella and the 2020 Saltiga? Instead you used the 2013 Stella...
Same...
