James, you have quite a roof space above the pond and filter house. Unless the tilt is north facing, it would be worth having solar panels fitted, even to offset your pump running costs.
Solar panels are cheap now (the batteries are not)

Solar powered air pump.. thats ALLL ... oversize the solar panels and you'll be able to run your air pumps 24/7 . I turn my pond off and stop feeding during winter anyway so elec costs are not big for me in that sense... but to ensure the water is oxygenated... the air pumps run 24/7... so for this I have setup a air pump and solar panel system with battery storage so the air pump can roughly run through the night before its charged up during the day even on overcast days... hence the oversizing of the sola panel. Keep up the great work.

Hi James, love your channel and am very happy with your set up lucky sucker… I’m a locksmith as I’ve said before and that lock should be on the inside as it’s not rated for weather and outdoor temperatures… it’ll be fine just put it inside and only a keyhole on the outside 👍 then when you want you can lock it from the inside too with the key 😀👍

All I’ve done is changed all the bulbs in house and upgraded anything old like my pumps and filter on my fish tank they use a lot less newer ones but i listen to what my late grandfather used to say “if you can’t do anything about it , don’t worry about it” which is what I live by one of the old school bless him, I will say if nothing is on standby etc it does save alot

I am too lazy to have a Koi pond but love watching other people having fun! Genuine questions - other than to support "forced" continued growth through the winter why heat the pond? Carp don't live in heated water in the wild, nor in the outdoor ponds in freezing cold Japan.
I do know that the blue resistance heater will be very expensive to run compared with a heat pump so turn down the temp to the minimum you can get away with. If you have the temp lower you can run the filtration slower so better all round??
fix some twin wall poly panels around the sides to reduce heat loss and add a bit of greenhouse gains when its sunny ??

Little silicone tip. If uneven surface like flags/bricks tape either side and smooth with a squirt of soapy water. Smooth surfaces glass/tiles soapy water and a good finger 😂 👍

@@JamesTHEKOIwhisperer123 no problem. The soapy water stops silicone sticking to other surfaces when smoothing. If using tape remove immediately after smoothing don’t leave it to dry or it will be stuck 👍
Run masking tape down each side. Run your silicone then you can wet finger Run over. Pull the tape of bosh clean lines.

Solar panels on your pond roof run the whole pond on that ?
Go solar, seems like the common suggestion. I'm waiting for my solar to be turned on, it's going to cut my power bills in half easily. Hopefully when my pond gets running the solar design will support the extra power needed by the pond. Just curious, what's the dimensions of your pond? Mine will be 12 feet by 8 feet with a 4 foot viewing window. I enjoy watching your videos and getting ideas for my build. 1 last comment, I'm over here in the USA now saying "thank your mother for the rabbits" people look at me funny ;)

James the odds on the Koi Competitions are crazy - and not in a good way
One I saw recently was 25ltrs of K1 - retail value £35 & they were selling 100 tickets at 99p. That comes out at nearly 3 times the value of the prize. From the competitions I looked at, the profit margin was between 100% and well over 300% on the retail value!
Hate to think what the margins are against trade cost.
People are being taken for mugs! The Koi Auctions were good, and decent value, but the Koi Competitions are just silly.
Different ways of looking at it tbh but some raffles make money some don’t but he does a free prize every week and extras and in his time ect nothing in life three these days I like the idea but each to your own and there’s no problem

@@JamesTHEKOIwhisperer123 I enjoyed watching his stuff and his move to his new place so a shame ge regreseed but thats life changes. I used to be an award winning orchid grower and won best trade display in an International show, sell products etc but it wasn't my day job. Gets very same old with the show circuit etc. Dealers are definitely a personal choice as they all have their own eye, style, quality they like to attain and link to certain breeders. They all have one thing in common, they need to off load the live stock 😃 so quite easy to access. Some big egos in these hobbies but Clayton comes across sound as a pound, hence why I enjoyed his content. Hope he puts more out there.

Maybe look into solar grants. Depends on different councils for amounts for full system
Could be worth a looking but still they get you for something
@@JamesTHEKOIwhisperer123 if done by a company ? Most councils offer green improvement grants for solar , heat pumps ect for homeowners and can choose your own system/ company
