I’ve charged in the garage all 3 years and can tell you depending on time of year my range was as high as 210 or so in the summer. In winter, cold as hell, around 160. Why such a higher range than promised? Well..they have an 8 year\100K warranty so they obviously have a huge buffer to make sure you hit that guarantee. Our MY should be here in a couple weeks☺️

Grok told me there was an update, but not in sweden yet. I want to upgrade when it is available on the Swedish market, is the 50miles version from the US and Germany and the 30miles version from China?
It would ne impossible to increase the energy storage of the batteries after the car was built so we can only assume the software in the car reduced the amount of energy that the batteries were programmed to be made available. .So why is this being offered now to past customers and will the new cars produced in the future be programmed to receive this extra range without an increase in the purchase price And the other question is whether this extra charge will be detrimental to the battery in respect to charging time and deterioration over the long term because otherwise why was this extra driving range not available before. Or is this just a software upgrade which will alter the average persons driving habits to improve efficiency
Tesla produces new software for their new cars. That software is already produced. So they give it to current owners for free. The range boost for a 2 year old car requires development hours spent on a car they already sold. So those development hours need to be paid for.
I got the 24 MYP I might be willing to splurge a little for some more miles. I'd rather pay for more performance. I'd gladly pay 2k to give my performance model an extra 100hp like they make available for the long range.

The upgrade would have to increase efficiency. If you charge of solar for free then there is no advantage. If you pay for charging then there is but the payback would be a long time. If you electricity is not green then the upgrade would cut Co2 emissions if you care about that.
Seems plausible enough. If they used about the same battery pack capacity as in the LR just more limited to make sure they don't have warranty issues at the cheaper price and found out the batteries are taking it very well, they may increase the capacity now that they are convinced that they won't have many warranty issues.
This has to be the battery buffer in question especially in you have new Lfp batteries where you have 57 or 60 kilowatt hours but using only 54 or less
How does this work? Does the software improve motor efficiency, or has it been lying about charge %? I think Tesla must have found a way to reduce electrical power usage. I don't see how they can give existing batteries increased capacity.
Same battery as the long range used in RWD Model Y's. Tesla just software locked the usable range. Now you can pay Elon extra for using more battery capacity that the car already has......😂
When I purchased a 2023 Y at the end of 2023. The car was made in the new Texas facility. I read online from a number of sources that these Texas Ys could be charged to 90% without degrading the battery. These articles no longer appear in a basic online search. The range upgrade software package being sold for $1200 or $1600 is a software download, which leads me go suspect that the software does not increase the storage capacity of the battery, it just changes the percent of charge in the software, so that a 90% charge on the original software basically shows as 80% with the new software. This means that I may be voiding the warranty if I always charge to 90% with the original software, because it will be recorded as such. The new software may just be making the battery "go to 11" - the actual capacity is the same, it is just recorded in the software differently. If that is the case, the sale of the upgrade borders on fraudulent and it SHOULD be provided for free, because all Tesla is actually doing is retroactively changing the way it interprets the warranty without providing any actual, real world benefit. If you could check this I would appreciate it.

You mean like FSD being “locked”? I get your point but it’s like with the state of NJ. Ordered a MY 8 days ago (Saturday before last) and Wednesday NJ released funds for the EV incentive. I figured since it’s only “ordered” and not purchased, it would apply. Nope…had to cancel my order and resubmit. Why? Range isn’t hidden. It’s an efficiency software upgrade that they figured out recently. As a software engineer I guarantee you, we don’t work for free.
Everyone knows, there is a reserved capacity hidden to prevent completely depleting battery. Seems like, they have data now, lets them trade it for some dough instead, without compromising battery cycle life 🤞. Or, it could be they expected some cells to fail in their first gen 4680, and seems like it did not happen. So, this additional upgrade revenue will go the people that worked on these batteries as a bonus🤔 for work done well(Just that it will come out of owners wallet instead😂). Not sure, how it impacts battery warranty in future🤞. It would have been nice to give this out free, and make a marketing splash, to improve sales instead. Otherwise, will leave a sour taste with existing owners, already pissed off with the declining asset value due to the wave of price cuts. Greed has no limits, even, if you have billions. Just some 💭
Where is the extra range coming from? Obviously not from a hidden/locked battery pack🤔. Thought the software lock on battery packs ended in older modelS vehicles. It is understandable they could charge for a 0.5 secs performance upgrade for those not satisfied with their Lectric GoKarts😂 (I already have 2 lectric go karts anyways😅). Otherwise, it is some efficiency optimization everyone should already have for free!. It just goes against the fundamentals of sustainable EV adoption!😔 . Seems like, Tesla identified potential manufacturing defect🤞, and a software solution💡, that they are using to fix it, making some dough🤑, milking their customers during the "upgrade". Greed has no limit.🤯

A heat wave that broke dozens of temperature records across the American Southwest is shifting to more of the country this weekend, with heat peaking in the Northeast early next week. Some East Coast cities, including Baltimore and Washington, D.C., will experience temperatures reaching OVER 100 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. That will not necessarily break records everywhere, as Las Vegas and many other Western cities did last week. But it can still be dangerous. “What we want people to be prepared for is the hot daytime temperatures, and the temperatures that don’t really cool off that much at night,” said Richard Bann, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service. That can be especially stressful for people who don’t have a good way to keep cool or aren’t staying hydrated, he said. The Midwest will heat up. Temperatures are expected to hover around the middle 90s in Minneapolis over the weekend, and St. Louis is expected to hit 99 degrees on Sunday. Chicago is forecast to reach a high of 96 on Monday, while Milwaukee, where the Republican National Convention will be held next week, will be around 90 or over before possibly cooling slightly on Tuesday.
I think it is pretty crappy Tesla via software hindered range at the factory, and then wants to charge a grand to get more range after the car was sold.

Google is your friend ;) "electric viking 4680 model y range" one of the first links: ua-cam.com/video/8Zn_lVkYDlQ/v-deo.html -> Tesla tells why 4680 Model Y has ONLY 279 mile range (2 years ago) Of course, Tesla built in extra capacity but did not unlock it because they did not know how well the cells would cope with full range usage. And the price at the time reflected that. So Tesla is in no obligation to give away the extra range for free.
Tesla, cool that you can unlock things by software. Now let us RWD cars pay for the ambient light and the extra 4 speakers in our car. Design us an integrated soft closing flunk. Extra money for your service department.
Most likely Tesla realised over the years that their batteries are so incredibly great that they can push the boundaries even further. That's probably why the range can be increased after all. If they pushed the boundaries straight from the start there would have been a potential risk. Tesla's battery pack is simply even greater then they dared to believe at the time.

Bothers me the capability has always been there and they advertise the car with a lower range. To me, offer this deal from the point of sale as an option so buyers are aware their cars have more range if they pay. Not a good look for Tesla.
i am guessing the range upgrade is the butter they locked away... as the pack reduces over life you will get that ... myself i do not drive far enough to need a range boost.
I can see people who use there car as a Uber or such will want the boost and people who travel a ton. but anyone else it is probably a skip
50 miles is nothing give me 300 miles and I would pay for that but not 50 measly miles and this should be free with an over the air update. Shame on Tesla for ripping off their customers.
QuickSilver == Mercury
I could see buying the extra range for frequent long trips.
My standard range Model Y is/was advertised with 455km of range. On pick-up and ever since it's only ever charged to max 435km (max range after 1 year now 423km). So it seems I have to pay an extra USD1000 for the max range it should have had from the beginning...
455 km of range per govt standard range testing.
If you drive the car the same as a govt mandated testing you should get the same range
@@thomaswilson2917 No, 435km is also what is shown for my Model Y at 100%. It’s unlikely that my driving conditions are exactly the same as the person you’re replying to.
Well I mean if you always charge to 100% degrading it a bit more they could have trouble because of warranty so presumably they’re aware of that at Tesla!?
Giving the full 60 miles first mentioned probably did lead to battery degradation so they decided on less…
If you can switch all batteries around with any combination (series, parallel, first, last) you can increase the miles alot further
Tesla dominating at innovation again.
I think it’s strange to compare getting an aftermarket part that increases performance to a software unlock of what was already there.
You new and paid for the factory range, you want more range you pay more.
Parts require engineering time to produce. Software requires engineering time to produce.
Tesla produces new software for their new cars. That software is already produced. So they give it to current owners for free.
The range boost for a 2 year old car requires development hours spent on a car they already sold. So those development hours need to be paid for.
@@ecospider5I don’t know the technical details of what was required to add addition range without modifying the battery itself. It strikes me as a simple “unlock “ without any significant work. But I could be wrong.
@@universeisundernoobligatio3283the factory range isn’t accurate.
if Tesla intentionally hid this range when car was bought to give you the "chance" to improve range later for a fee, this might be a problem with many owners as well with potential future buyers..
Completely agree, same as having to Queue for a Supercharger when it’s stuffed full of VW’s and Kia’s.
Why? NJ figures I was willing to buy the car before without the incentive…so I don’t get it. Tesla was SO cool. They understood and credited me the $250 deposit on the first order☺️
Range isn’t hidden. It’s an efficiency software upgrade that they figured out recently. As a software engineer I guarantee you, we don’t work for free.
@@ElMistroFeroz no, you get paid a salary to do your job?
Just some 💭
A subscription model would be good. Then you could have it for a month if you are going on a roadtrip.
I don't own the car, but I wouldn't pay for it.
OTA Robotaxis, Optimi anyone?😮
I wish I could get this for my long range.
If this software were developed by a 3rd party rather than Tesla itself, would people feel differently about paying for it?
I'd rather get the Model 3 RWD longrange that has 363 miles of range.
What a scam, it is not a performance increase. They lower the specs before that.
On an ice car i can get 100 miles of extra range with a 5 gallon gas can!
Fantastic!!
Where is the extra range coming from? Obviously not from a hidden/locked battery pack🤔. Thought the software lock on battery packs ended in older modelS vehicles. It is understandable they could charge for a 0.5 secs performance upgrade for those not satisfied with their Lectric GoKarts😂
(I already have 2 lectric go karts anyways😅).
My Lectric go cart is quicker and carries more stuff than your similar sized ice vehicle. I will keep my Lectric.

I think its a rip off, Charge it to 100% for long trips this will give you the extra 50 miles. Dont waste your money. If it were an extra 300 miles yes sir I would definitely do it but 50 measly miles.
Are there batteries just sitting under the car not being used?
Google is your friend ;) "electric viking 4680 model y range" one of the first links:
ua-cam.com/video/8Zn_lVkYDlQ/v-deo.html -> Tesla tells why 4680 Model Y has ONLY 279 mile range (2 years ago)
Of course, Tesla built in extra capacity but did not unlock it because they did not know how well the cells would cope with full range usage. And the price at the time reflected that. So Tesla is in no obligation to give away the extra range for free.
I already have a long range.
Sounds like ternery battery models.
If Tesla is an AI company, why is my cars voice recognition so rubbish.
Tesla, cool that you can unlock things by software. Now let us RWD cars pay for the ambient light and the extra 4 speakers in our car. Design us an integrated soft closing flunk. Extra money for your service department.
Range all depends on how you drive. Can’t claim to add 50 miles of range if you’re flooring your car every time you accelerate.
don't like this at all. taking an extra 1k, for something that was already capable... not happy
I believe it is a software improvement that unlocks more range, not something that is purposely held back
OTA updates are so great without replacing hardware. ⚡️🇺🇲
Maybe better if you gave loyal customers a boost for free. 1k is just greed.
@@SWR112Ha!! People always want something for nothing!! Sad!
@@205rider8how about this….just start selling new cars with extra range….by turning on the feature in the new cars….this sounds like greed on steroids

Why buying this?! Just charge your car to 90% instead of 80%
Most likely Tesla realised over the years that their batteries are so incredibly great that they can push the boundaries even further. That's probably why the range can be increased after all. If they pushed the boundaries straight from the start there would have been a potential risk.
Tesla's battery pack is simply even greater then they dared to believe at the time.
I agree
True. Batteries can last half a million mile and soon a million. That's close to forever.
This is my favorite channel. Despite the dip in crypto. I still thank you for the level headed financial advice I started crypto investment with $7,500 and since following you for few weeks now, l've got 25k In my portfolio. Thank you so much mrs Elizabeth Slone
Wow. I'm a bit perplexed seeing her been mentioned here also Didn't know she has been good to so many people too this is wonderful, i'm in my fifth trade with her and it has been super.
The first step to successful investing is figuring out your goals and risk tolerance either on your own or with the help of a financial professional but is very advisable you make use of a professional.
Isn't that the same Mrs Elizabeth Slone that my neighbours are talking about, she has to be a perfect expert for people to talk about her so well
I'm new at this, please how can I reach her?
I was skeptical at first till I decided to try. Its huge returns is awesome. I can't say much

On second tesla Tesla gets 3/4 range they say in winter half
I agree it shouldnt be free
But for half price
I fail to see how having 50 more miles of range is worth 1.6k$ but I don't have an electric car, so please enlighten me.
You will not get that range and that’s a fact.
Shrinklation by Tesla.
BTW: now we know for sure that Tesla fakes its EVs' battery degration figures.
Do you no own the car , to paid for unlocking no.
Ahh boy you're not thinking clearly it's a money grab
In under one year from now..all Chinese EV’s will get 1000km of range
*Tesla will also use Chinese battery CATL too they can get the best ones from CATL too*
This is bull... You basically own nothing, control nothing.
Im a Tesla fan but this is bullshit
Tesla has gone full MAGA. Am selling all
My stock and will never buy another Tesla.
Imagine how car owners for the past 50 years would have reacted if they were told 4 years into ownership, a substantial bank transaction would give them 50 more miles on a full tank. With no physical change to the car.....There would have been a revolution. Not now. All sheep
Over time Tesla has come to realize that the car can consistently be pushed further.
Evening mate
This is like an ICE car company limiting you to 15 gallons of petrol in a 20-gallon tank... Asking you to pay $1000 so they will allow the car to add 5 more gallons to top off to 20 gallons !! Disgraceful.
Wrong! There is a Buffer on the bottom and a buffer on the top to keep the longevity! For $1600 you unlock the buffer decreasing the longevity costing Tesla to rebuild the pack before 120,000 miles! This is a Liability for Tesla so they charge for it! I charge to 80% and drive to 20% that keeps longevity on my battery pack! Do you Own a Tesla?
Yes...A Model Y ... and the buffer story does not sound right. 80 % is already reccommended daily max...and few people go to far below 10 or 15 % often ...I dont buy it !!
@@SongkranJ1 Nobody cares what you buy or what you think
That is outrageous.. you bought a car that was throttled back.. So Tesla wants you to pay more to turn on more range that you should have had from day one !! Teslai is disgraceful.
You got what you paid for.
Sam I will be starting to skip the Tesla updates try to cover more of the ev companies Hyundai, Kia, Ford, etc, Musk lied he said he would not donate to either candidate but he will be donating to trump.
He likes to pump it up his TSLA 😁
