- Carroll Shelby’s vision for the AC Cobra has lived on through Originals and Replica cars alike. Back Draft Racing carry’s on the Shelby legacy and vision through their replica cars they build, and we LOVE seeing these awesome machines tearing up the strip! Having some fun at Pike Peaks Airstrip Attack presented by Shift Sector, this AC Cobra Replica with a STOUT Coyote engine put on a show as it struggled for traction. The Coyote power plant had some help from a Whipple Supercharger and some Nitrous that made sliding around between gears on the airstrip of Colorado Springs Airport in Colorado Springs, CO!

Here is the best example yeah i like the AC Cobra but still even though it has a big V8 supercharged + nos and stuff still is no match for Porsche Turbo with only 6 cylinders ! ;)

Of all the years, this is my favourite featured car by you so far
When i was 16, i could have bought a 95 silverado. Great work truck. Regular cab. Got older, got a 93 camry 4cyl. Totally gutless. I knew nothing about cars. Then as the years progressed and i worked on my own car more and more, i began to appreciate a car that just keeps running. Fast forward years later, i got a hold of a 2010 crown vic cvpi (formerly roseville pd squad car) . its a "4 door mustang" they say. Before my mods to the car it was quick-ish. Now with the turbo im installing, itll be a sports car.
My dream car is a 1957 c1 corvette however. I wont define myself by either chevy or ford, or toyota. But what i will say, is that in the end when all of us gear heads are staring at droves of electric cars on the highways in the near future all we have is eachother. Band together and save traditional vehicle ownership and the ability to work on your own automobile, both for economic and traditions sake.

Depends on the LS. If we are talking about a 5.3 or 6.0 iron junkyard motor with a rigged turbo setup, then i'll take the ford motor any day of the week. Now, if its an LS3, LSA, LS9 or LS7, the discussion changes.
doesn't matter what engine is in it. The car is aerodynamically restricted to around 185 mph.

That is the only way I would drive it with that much HP. This thing would be evil with 900hp. I drive a Cobra replica with 450+HP and it wanted to swap ends with every shift.

Just imagine the Super Snake way back in 1966... 800hp twin supercharged 427. Bill Cosby drove his once and gave it back. Ended up killing the guy that bought it next. Carols personal car was the only other one built, it recently sold for 5.5 million!. Said to have a 0-60 time of just over 3 seconds IN 1966. Had just a 3 speed auto transmission. Im assuming to let you keep both hands as firmly on the wheel as you can hold it bahaha

Did he really ask how they fit that engine in? The entire idea of the Cobra is to squeeze big V8s into it, hence the 427 SuperSnake that had twin superchargers.

I mean even with the superchargers, the 427 was a huge engine to shoehorn into the Cobra, which is why a 5.0L Coyote with a supercharger also can fit.

chevy guys are just going to have to deal with the fact that dohc engines are better than pushrod engines. the two intake valves in a dohc head flow more air in than a two valve combination. just gunna have to get used to it. you guys need larger displacement engines while we have more efficient engines to do the job. i mean christ the ls7 stock put out 505 horsepower from a 7 liter engine. you guys gotta get them more efficient!

He replaced the blower belt before making any passes. Got the wrong size belt and had major slippage, only pushing 3 lbs of boost for each of those runs where he normally runs 12, hence the ~160 passes versus his previous 180 last year.

With the lack of traction that cobra has it’s a bad wreck waiting to happen.
That guy knows his car well and seems to be a good driver, he is quick to pedal when it gets squirrely on him. Those Cobra's also have a very low center of gravity, takes a bit to get it off its wheels.
All that said, if your gonna race, your gonna wreck. Just part of the sport. Wrecked my 74 Camaro about 5 years back in a street race, total loss with a bent frame, broken cage and my beautiful 540ci engine bouncing across a field before embedding itself into a rock wall. Still haven't been able to afford to rebuild, but i will eventually.

The original AC's ran 196mph in testing so the newer replicas have no problem with 180. Yes, Backdraft Racing was founded in South Africa 2002.
Standard 427's were 164mph. Comps were 185mph. The Daytona coupe was good for 191mph, but was a totally different car.
