I've removed the whole transmission on my 1991 3.Slow, manual transmission in order to change my clutch, about 10 years ago. About to do this job again in 2 weeks. I already have the Excedy clutch kit with a LUK flywheel. Let me tell you, this is a pretty heavy tranny combo with transfer case & everything else. Removing it is a task of its own. But installing it without the proper tranny jack, is a biach. You will never find the center weight area to place it over a jack stand. It kept falling off my jack as i tried raising it up to the engine. To align it to each hole is a pain. So last week during a Harbor Freight member sale, i vought the tranny jack. So if im off on aligning the volt holes by 1/4," all i have to do is turn the tilt knob to move it lef or right, or tilt it down or up. Doing this by brut force on a regular jack, a 1/4 adjustment using both hands is enough for the tranny to slip off the jack. Just the 1 job will pay for the cost of this tranny jack. Don't wait for years to learn this lesson like us midle aged do it yourselfers. Get the proper tools as soon as possible. It's worth it. It's expensive being cheap.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Appreciate it!!
So glad I found your video. I'm turning my 83 into a dual case crawler and need to change out my clutch and transfer casedon't have anyone to help so know I'm gonna try it myself. Think I will build a Lil cage out of 2x4's to make it a bit more steady. As I have a torn rotator cuff. Thanks again ya helped me out alot
a rachet strap and a car jack goes a long way
i'm a big fan of the 80s toyota pickups i have to 1981 toyota pickups and i'm only 15 years old.
solid video thank you
Thank you!!
Awesome how to video .
Any plans on doing a follow up like a part 2? Would love to see how you reseal the transfer case and install the rear main seal on this truck.
Thanks for the comment, i just finished the install last week. looks great i will post some pictures in the next video and a follow up because i did not get a chance to film most of it. But let me tell you what is looks amazing and the best part is no more leaks!!
Do you have an Instagram ? Would love to see the progress of the truck. I’m planning on re sealing my transfer case and trans on my truck also and wanted to get some tips . Great job on the truck btw
ceces_husband don't have any photos of the pickup, but my other builds are there. I need to get Beter at posting. promise this week I will post an update video
Would it be better/safer to put the jack more on the transfer case? It looked rear heavy when it started to drop. I’m getting ready to drop mine by myself real soon.
they are not to bad if you drop just the transferase and not the trans plus case. could honestly bench press it in/out but if you do it i recommend putting a rachet strap around to hold it on the jack as an added saftey if alone
Nice Solo tranny drop.
thank you. struggled just a little
do you know what kind of gearbox it is i have the same one in my truck and i am pretty sure it is not the l43 but unfortunately i can't find any info on what type it is. it would be great if you knew.
yota tech has a thread on what is what for 4 sped or 5 speed or you can go to marlin crawer forums
