    No offense but here are the facts about the B52J from an old B52G driver from the 70s.
    The B52 needs to lose the bomber designation because it will not be dropping bombs in any current or future conflicts. It will, however, be a platform for a variety of standoff weapons with ranges of 1500 miles or more in the current inventory with more to come. The new F130 engines have 17,000 pounds of thrust, the same as the TF33s they are replacing so its takeoff roll with be the same and its performance in the air will be the same. Why, the wings and airframe were designed and stressed for the TF33 engines. What will change is better fuel economy leading to fewer required air refuelings, greater range for longer missions, and lower maintenance costs.
    It’s becoming a B52J because of its new avionics, radar systems, communication capabilities, plus the satellite uplink for enhanced command and control. And maybe, just maybe, the abandoned gunner’s position will have a new crew member to occupy it that will take advantage of some of its new 'stuff' coming its way.
    The B52 at best, will support the efforts of the B1, B2, and B21 in any conflict. They have all of the features this video incorrectly attributed to the new B52J. It will have a standoff role because of its of its lack of speed, maneuverability, and stealthy attributes. Stealth? Its radar profile cross-section literally screams “HERE I AM”.

      Were you involved with “Arc Light” or “Linebacker”?
      I used to fly with a Buff driver and some of his stories were fascinating.
      Like nearly 50% of his missions ended with his ‘52 declaring emergency status due to:
      Engine failure, flak damage, systems malfunction, you name it.
      Then there was the takeoff out of Guam, loaded to the gills, with an engine failure mid roll. Too fast to abort, insufficient acceleration to successfully takeoff. He said they added flaps close to the end of the runway, was able to unstick and used the drop off at the end to descend and trade some altitude for airspeed.
      I asked him what they did then. He looked at me funny, then said “Flew the mission of course”.
      Gutsy. Or, just a different generation I guess.

      Linebacker 2, from Guam. He must have been flying 'H's, I flew 'G's. And we were so under powered compared to the 'H', every time we took off from Guam with a full bomb load in the 'G', we would have to pull our buff off the ground because it didn't have flying speed. Why? The center of the runway was 20 feet lower than each end. So when we started up the hill in the second half of the runway, the airspeed indicator would almost stop increasing. Then, like your friend said, we would pull it off the runway then push the nose over to accelerate toward the ocean then slowly start our climb. It drove the guys in the tower nuts until they saw us in our climb way out over the ocean. The 'G' engine thrust was 9700 pounds per engine. The H' engine thrust was 17,000 pounds per engine. So they had no trouble taking off. But the 'G' also had 10,000 pounds of distilled water to inject into the engines on takeoff. That added 4,000 pounds of thrust per engine for 90 seconds bring the total thrust up to 14,700 pounds per engine. So when your friend lost that engine on takeoff, he lost 17,000 pounds of thrust, bringing his total thrust down to our total thrust. Thats how he knew what to do, pull up, push over. That what we had to do every time. Unless we had water injection problem then we'd abort. If there was going to be water problems, it would be when we started the takeoff roll and turned on the water. Oh, one other thing, our water would run out as we headed toward the ocean, another complexity you friend didn't have to put up with.
      As far as continuing the mission in a 'H', they'd have no problems doing that. If we lost an engine after takeoff, we never did, we'd have to abort the mission. Again, the difference in total engine thrust.
