Such a good showing of how important is adding multi-tools in a well rounded artist’s arsenal. This video teaches more than every other “step by step tutorial” you can find out there. It kinda is a step by step tutorial, but unravels how the artist thinks, how he faces problems and how he solves them by disassembling every one of them in many much smaller pieces. From the initial composition brainstorming, till the end of the piece, there‘s so much to learn. Just wow. This is awesome.
Yup, it is important to learn many tools! Glad you totally get it! Just like how traditional oil painters do maquettes to help them, I use 3D to help my painting. It's important to know that each problem has many possible solutions and for us artists to try different approaches to figure out the best possible outcome. :)
A great example in the 80/20 rule: 80 percent of the job (idea, initial concepts, sketching, first versions) is done in the first 20 percent of the video, and detailing and actually finishing the piece takes 80% of the time. Absolutely amazing work, thanks for sharing it.
I really love the process, using 3D to figure out the perspective of the armor is so smart, thanks for sharing the painting of this with us, it helps a lot for us artists.
Glad it helped! Learning 3D is crucial for illustrators. Other than 3D, I also use clay sometimes to figure out things faster. It's important to use as much tools as we can to speed things up. :)
@@deivcalviz Watching those process videos helps so much, really thankful for it! I loove leagues splash art, and I always wonder how much of it is painted from imaginanion. Do you usually paint the pose and all the anatomy from imagination, or do you use reference for it? And is there also reference used for other parts?
@@tyaap1681 It starts with the idea then I do the rough doodles. I gather more reference maybe from movies or animation, etc to get more ideas. Then when I get a pose locked down, I try to take photos of myself. If that doesnt work, I use a toy to pose it. Then once the drawing is done and it is polishing time, this is the time I sometimes bring in 3d to correct my mistakes. So many references! Haha
It's nice to see that some artists assume to use 3D as references (lights&pers). In a pro context it saves a lot of time and it's silly to do without it.
Yup! Saves time and gives an accurate reference. I still try to keep as much energy as I can from the initial sketch even if it means not following the 3D whenever the situation needs it. 😁
Thank you so much for all the information in the description. It's super useful to know how much time it takes to produce splash art on a professional level. And I always love watching how a painting is done from start to finish :)
I really just wanna thank you for all the amazing art youve put out and the fact that you let everyone see your process! I hope i can be just as good as you someday!
I find the artist have been frustrated and pained throughout the whole process. Such a pain to look at how the artist tried to figure out all kind of complicated light sources for the background. x.x Your patience must be god. I hope you would find a best solution and efficient ways to reduce your progress.
Dude, you art skills are godly. The amount of years of work you must've put into learning all this is probably unimaginable. I started watching this and after 15 minutes looked at the play time and my jaw dropped when I saw there was over an hour to go. Honestly, I am just in awe dude. Thanks for sharing your work!
This was most excellent to see. Most people would have thought the picture was in a finished state about 25% of the way through this video. You really took it that extra mile. It was especially good to see you play around with ideas, change your mind, undo significant amounts of work and change things.
I always love to see the process behind amazing art like this! Plus these videos are always my go to when I’m kinda stressed with my own art and need to take a short break to calm down
I cant believe how much info you just gave away for free, and this is the first video Ive watched from you. Thus begins my binge watch of all your vids! Man thank you so much. Cant believe Ive never thought of liquifying multiple layers before!
As a student of digital painting since last year, coming from tradtional painting,i thought that digital painting was only based on the actual ''action of painting''(i hope i'm making myself clear). League's artworks have shown me that in order to create a professional artwork you must understand deeply PS and so your pictorial quality can't do all the work alone. That's why this kind of works blow me every time. I hope there's a way to learn this process, it would improve my art a lot. Amazing piece, congrats!
i've seen your art back couple years and its still incredibly so amazing oh my god, all the details oh my god it seems so much work. but i feel so happy seeing the process of the speedpaint so cool!
ive rewatched this 10 times while eating breakfast everyday... so fascinating there are tools your using in photoshop or rather processes that I have never thought about so awesome that you post this
i'm litteraly watching this as a reference for the process of a vex fan splash art than i'm trying to do. x) I have the whole concept art done, the pose for the splash art, but i have no idea where to start for the coloring, thanks for posting this, it really helped. :)
This video should be slammed on some peoples face who says using "3D is cheating". This video just shows how maximizing technology and available tools can get you to another level. Very good job and incredible showcase of skills.
Thats totally true! Even old masters do clay sculpts to help them paint. Its the same logic. Knowing the basics is what is trully important. When people use 3d without learning to properly draw and compose, color, etc, things will still look wrong. haha.
This opened my eyes in a lot of ways. Goes to show how much work is being put into this, any professional work really. At 28:10 it would've been good enough but you went far and beyond to refine and make it even more incredible. And even though it's quick/time-lapse, just watching this video made me realize that there are processes and tools that I didn't know existed within Photoshop and other programs. Love the shortcuts too. This is great! Thank you so much!! seriously.
Really glad you like it! Yup, if this was a personal piece, I would have stopped earlier. This is what makes splash art stand out from other types of illustration.
OMFG! It's a colossal work, everything is so detailed. After this video, I don't even want to open Photoshop and draw something xD. At one moment of watching the video, my brain turned off and began to perceive everything as pure magic. Thanks for such a useful and entertaining material, it deserves much more views and likes. Like!
So much effort. So much talent. Are artists well compensated for the work they do? After seeing this video I feel a void in my heart that wants me to be able to do it but is afraid if I can keep going. This is great motivation and seeing how it went from a simple sketch to a masterpiece brings me joy.

daaaaamn I'm just found you in artstation and also on UA-cam ! thanks so much for the process and I have another question How many years have you been drawing or how many years have you developed your drawing?(sorry for my English )
I feel kind of blessed being able to watch this for free
A long time ago Riot used to post their timelapse videos, I think the first I watched was the one when they created Fiora

The amount of detail and work that goes in just one splash art is so crazy! I would never pull this off.
The whole video is in fast forward yet it still reaches to about 2 hrs that is the text book definition of dedication in mastery
