I have felt quite a bit of pressure to add that very high sizzly top end to vocals on tracks only to find that it often didn't sound good to my ears. Thanks for helping me to remember that I should trust my ears and not just go by whatever other people say to do.

TO ME the drums sound like they might enhanced the toms too, so it's kick , snare and toms are using samples to enchance the drum tone for sure, they might recorded in session samples for this album
Bendeth’s work on that album is amazing. Of course he does a great job on the drums. It would be interesting to compare the vocal mixes on different songs: the choruses on Choke have a lot of layering, but in other places the vocals are pretty raw and it works.
i would love to hear from you more on the alternative rock stuff that is unsterile with a powerful raw energy such as Thrice, Movements, Biffy Clyro etc.
I haven’t been able to understand the hype over this snare sound at all - I know how revolutionary it is thought to be, so I really wish I got it, but to me, it just sounds like a typical mushy, innocuous pop snare sound, yet so many people rave about it. Might just be that I’m not super into the genre, though I would hope I’m capable of more objectivity than that.
@@distortingjack DTs snares are triggered and the samples sent to reverb bus I know this because I’m his chief engineer I didn’t work on the DT stuff but I have first hand knowledge of this
@@MixWithRick I'm not disputing that. What I mean is that Dream Theater's 90s snares are much softer, and that their 'bigness' SOUNDS like extra digital reverb, whereas here it doesn't. This snare (which by the way sounds much better on the track, it's been weirdly mushed by the UA-cam compression here) is way punchier than any snare DT ever had, especially since Portnoy ended up using smaller snares after Images and Words, and also a more natural sound since Octavarium.
I’d love to hear you do something off of Wage War’s Manic album. Maybe even the song Manic. It’s got a lot of hip hop influences as well as being crushingly heavy. That song in particular has a huge bottom

This song would be sick to have on Nail the Mix! No idea how realistic that would be but one can still dream
Oh wow so much great info about this awesome song!! Thanks for the series Joel!!
🙏
I love the tremolo guitar panning from right to left in the back during the chorus. Thank you for the video, great awesome info!
Such a great series - love learning from Joel
I remember when i first heard this song, was blown away by the production. Amazing sound, amazing production.

Please break down a Will Yip mix TITLE FIGHT 🙏🏼💙
Awesome to see an analysis of a song combined with its place in musical history, instant subscription. Also doesn't hurt I am a Paramore fan :)
Thank you!
I really like this style of reaction. Keep em coming.
🙏🙏
I'm about to see them in concert this sunday. It will be great
Amazing, love this vid! 💯
Now, do @TheWarning 's album, ERROR, produced by David Bendeth! 🎼🎶💥👍🏼
Noted thx

we need a nail the mix for a paramore song!!
I just rediscovered my love for crushcrushcrush recently too. Mixed, very similarly. It just really has the sauce.
Have you ever done a studio tour? Would really enjoy if you did!

Absolutely!

Talk about anything from "Soundtrack to a Headrush" by Emanuel (produced by Machine)
Blast from the past that album! Such an awesome record.
Keep doing these vids! I like how they’re detailed but straight to the point! Also I’d like to see you do Ozzy Osbourne’s “Patient Number 9”
🙏🙏 I’ll keep that in mind!
where can I find a sample of this snare
3:06, 3:51 Joel - would you say 'it feels SO good'?
Great video. Great mix. But I really wanna play a drinking game every time you say midrange 😂. But mid range really is everything.
Lol let’s go! What are we drinking?
@@joelwanasekurm Mixers choice. 🥁🥁🪄
It would interesting to listen to the mix before it was mastered.
Having worked with Ted before he’s subtle in his mastering approach. Just widens slightly and makes some small eq moves.
Please do any Andy Sneap Related
Will do
Sir Joel. Can you do a reaction video on "love to hate by limp bizkit". Thanks. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
That snare didn't do what the description says. David Prater was making snares like is in the 90s!!! Just listen to Dream Theater!!
Absolutely 100% not. Dream Theater's sounded like reverb. This sounds like an explosion.

Oh please never bring these hair styles back again, never. Long live the snare though
Lolol!
@spacemilk kidding man) just the matter of fasion. Everybody had this kinda haircut back then. Myself included. Looks weird these days though
