Great lesson. A buddy asked "why the hell would he write it in b flat, instead of e or g? It's so much harder" Answer: the song was written with the intent of having a horn section. Trumpets and tenor saxophones are keyed in b flat, so they get to play in the key of c. So, if anyone else was wondering, there you have it. One more piece of useless trivia.
"It's a blues tune" In reference to the looseness of it. That's exactly what the Yardbirds thought when they were asked to back up Sonny Boy Williamson. Clapton said it was terrifying and one of his best learning experiences. He and the other Yardbirds did not know the songs and Sonny Boy let them know in a not so nice way. It was then that Clapton realized that it wasn't good enough to not know the specific songs. You can hear Howling Wolf teaching the English lads Red Rooster from the London Howling Wolf Sessions. You can't use a 9th chord on Boogie Chillin.
Fantastic lesson. Thank you. Would you consider doing a lesson for Chevrolet by Taj Mahal?
