It's funny, i have been told to use my octo , as there's a lot of current and it inflates the SMB fully, so it can be seen in waves. Entanglement, i get it, can happen. But if you do it from the bottom, pretty unlikley. You can also use the air you breath out by leaning to the side. I also don't understand that spool and double ender usage. Why loop it? Click the double ender in, look up, fill it. Especially if you do repetetive dives like on many boats, why play around with the line? When you need the spool, you can still disconnect? I do not understand why this should be the do it right procedure, would be happy if someone can get my an explanation.
This is a drill to demonstrate proficiency in maintaining buoyancy control, trim and spatial awareness whilst performing a task. On a regular dive they have the spool/reel and DSMB attached and simply shoot it when required.
Any reason you don't use an Open bottom SMB? I use an open bottom SMB and fill it when I exhale from my 1st stage by tilting my head. I find I can fill it quickly and control the amount it fills. I use this method as I am generally in a current and need to pop the SMB quickly. Seems the oral filled SMB's are getting more popular.
I was told that using your longs is very bad for filling the smb, is there a reason you're not using another method? Also seems the smb is far from completely filled.
You do not want to fill with your second stage. If your second stage became entangled or caught in the bag, it can pull you up. Air expands as it rises. You do not need to fill completely. Orally inflating is the safest method. Less likely to get caught in gear, you always have your second stage in hand and can let go of the bag/reel immediately if something goes wrong. This is a very nice demonstration.
@@malabou75 ok thanks for the info :) what about using the tube from your inflator, is that more safe to use? Or would you still go for the manual inflation.
@@brentgees, you do not want to disconnect your BCD or drysuit inflator to inflate an SMB. Maintaining buoyancy is far more important. Your buoyancy can change during the deployment, hence you need to be able to vent or add gas to your BCD/suit.
plz make the vid deploying smb with thick wet gloves. Smth about 5-7 mm. The sea is really cold in my region, the average temp is about 10-17 C in the high summer.
Never seen something so simple look so complicated.

Well, many methods, but you can get entangled at your second stage while using an open bottom with exhaling bubbles.

Completey filled? Why?
Depends on depth, how much air is required

Vit Shaden The SMB deployment protocol is the same. Here we also do it when we dive in lakes with water up to 5 degrees and dry gloves
