It's the French Garde Republicaine, an elite presidential guard of the French Gendarmerie. They are an elite unit. I saw them perform in New York during the centennial of the Statue of Liberty. Ils etaient formidable!

My uncles are buried near Normandie where they died for the liberation. Like so many of my fellow American soldiers.
