Hey Jay. Just got the big boat tuned up, dusted off, and ready to fish the big lakes, myself. Had to order a second PLS system to go along with the Humminbird Mega SI+. They can clam up, but they can't hide. Been hitting the small electric-only res near me with the jon a lot, so I had moved the LS over. That little lake has spoiled me with the big slabs - and lack of zoomies and nutcases like on Lanier. I decided to spring for another system since I'm tired of moving the one back and forth between boats. You got me fired up to head to Oconee soon. Cheers! Joe

Thanks Joe. Glad you are fired up. It's called crappie fever and I have it bad! Jim and I plan on going to Oconee Thursday if the weather is suitable. I imagine we will be fishing near the dam. Tight lines.

What size jig head were you using on your double rig? Also, how fast were you pulling them?

Most are double 1/16's some are 1/16 & 1/32 and some times I may even add a split shot to the double 1/16 rig. It all depends on where the fish are. I have caught them this spring using 1/4 oz total that is double 1/16's and a 1/8 oz sinker. Right now you shouldn't have to go that deep but I caught a few yesterday using 1/4 oz.

I've watched many of your videos and appreciate you documenting what the fish are caught on. I'm just getting into longlining my lake is predominantly black crappie with low water clarity. Do you find that black crappie have certain jig preferences? Trying to purchase appropriate style jigheads for success and I'm in NC - there are not as many longliners here to talk with. Thanks.

My favorite Jig head colors are white, pink, Chartreuse, and orange. Those will work for any kind of crappie in my opinion. Use the darker colored bodies when the water is heavily stained. Most every jig body I use has a chartreuse tail. Find the fish, get the jig down to the right depth and you will catch fish. Long line trolling is a great way to cover lots of water and catch lots of fish. Thanks for watching!

@@crappietrollingcombotechni6150 Thank you - that is very helpful. Do you primarily fish creek ledges this time of year? Should I be starting at the mouth of tributaries and working my way back/up the coves or something altogether different? I don't think I've seen any videos on how you locate fish but if you have one I'd love to watch.

@@cglarsen26 Yes you are exactly right. They are moving out of the channels into the coves and creeks. Use your electronics to locate the fish. If you can't find fish find fishermen. Thanks for watching!

@crappietrollingcombotechni6150 What would you say is your general process for locating fish and how much time should I allocate towards that part before throwing lines out? Kind of struggle with knowing how long to scan before actually fishing if you have any advice.

We don't usually spend much time looking for fish. We have fished enough to know where to look at certain times of the year. I also keep a log of when, where, water temp and how many fish we catch. Yet, a fisherman's memory can be his worst enemy at times. On occasion we all make the mistake of fishing where we think they are instead of fishing where they are. If you can't find fish find fishermen.@@cglarsen26

Another good video. Is this lake closer to you than Oconee? Glad to see you are getting after those crappie.

Yes. As the crow flies I am about 3.29 miles from Jackson. It takes me about 8 minutes to get to the ramp at the dam. We will probably hit Oconee Thursday if the weather will cooperate.
